Welcome to the build series. If you've followed the channel for a while, you know that I have a true passion for Porsche and Land Rover custom builds. This time I'm tackling a car that I have wanted to own for a long time, the E46 M3. In this episode I do an unboxing, install how-to and review of the Avon Avant 4 Bluetooth head unit with Apple CarPlay. Hope you enjoy the series. Many episodes to come.

I have tried and tried to get information from AVIN to no avail. Were you able to get the Carplay interface to switch between daylight and night modes automatically?

Cqn you run Google maps on the avin device itself without using android auto and your mobile?

Are you going to put on more OEMish / period-correct wheels, brakes, seats etc as well?

Went LMs for the wheels. Leaving the big brake kit on. Both are OEM+ IMO.

I will get this unit. Question, I see many add on items with additional costs. What add ons do u recommend?

Really depends on your situation. I added the advanced DSP because I like to really fine tune the EQ and setting of my speakers.

Hi, do the lights on the unit dim along with the other interior lights when using the dimmer control? I just watch another review of this head unit and the the button lights did not dim in conjunction with the other interior button lights. It was the same model, but a little older.

Not sure. I have my lights all the way up and don’t dim them.

Hello, can you please make a more detailed video about how to get car play please. That’s the most important thing but I don’t now what I have to do for it. Like do you have to install extra apps or how do I connect my phone to it ?

If you are buying the AVIN AVANT unit like the one in my video you just need to select the wireless CarPlay option at checkout. They will ship you a little usb box that you plug into the back of the head unit. Then you open the software on the head unit to connect to wireless CarPlay. AVIN tech support is very responsive and knowledgeable so if you have further questions I would reach out to them at avinusa.com/support.html

Hs it proven reliable since you put it in? The steering wheel buttons all work properly?

I am now a few months in. It's been pretty good so far. The unit itself is solid. People do seem to have some issues with the CarPlay USB "dongle" you plug into the back. I think that is made by a 3rd party. I did have an issue with the wireless Apple CarPlay connection dropping a bunch, but a quick software update via SD card slot and a tweak to the "delay" setting has solved that. Avin support is very good if you need them. Yes, the steering wheels buttons work properly.

Thanks. PX4, 2GB RAM, 32GB ROM, 4 core CPU, Advanced DSP chip w 15 EQ

How do you compare the Avin to your old unit. I know Avin has the oem look which I love but too many people have issues with the Avin, as far bluetooth connect and apple car play

It’s been working fine for me. I had one issue with connection dropping but AVIN support got it solved quickly.
