Good practical way to apply AT. Could you do a video for vacuuming? It is so difficult to hold the proper posture and not twist your back. This would be very helpful. Thank you!

Thank you for this! There's an exercise in classes at my gym that seem to be risky, based on this video. Students are told raise a dumbbell (using both hands) overhead off to one side and then bring it down diagonally across the body and lower it to the floor on the other side. This involves twisting in both directions with a 5 to 10 # weight. Would this be a perfect example of how to injure the spine?
@MovementandPosture
@MovementandPosture Год назад
Yes, that is the kind of movement that is more risky. However if done with an appropriate amount of weight and the movements are careful and controlled, it can be really beneficial in strengthening muscles, if that's what you need. Just don't do it without paying full attention to yourself and the movement and keep the movement slow so you can notice what effect it is having on your whole body. If you don't feel that you can 'use' yourself well when doing the exercise then politely decline to do it. You can blame it on me if they aren't happy 😊

This is truely serendipitous! 2 days ago i did my back in. Your video hs helped pin point the cause and i realise exactly what happened..twisting to pick up a 'light' stool! Ouch! Thanks Pete. Would appreciate a video on the best way to get out of bed. 🙏

It is nice of you Pete. To share the link, here, too . Do you have one back and front ribs I did a constructive test From another another teacher's listening to be aware of tensions I give to my body that I don't need, I fell last ẅeek and my ribcage ŝtill sore I must have bruised ithe are s and sometimes lying on my back hurts me more, So petting videos out there of how we add more tensions to our spine. can be good What do you have for the ribs?

Hi Pete - off topic but back related - I've come across some videos online that say the ideal posture of the back should be straight. Is that true? In the lower back, isn't the curve natural to keep? Thanks!
@MovementandPosture
@MovementandPosture 2 месяца назад
You want your back to be a neutral position. This means allowing your cervical, thoracic and lumbar curves to be in their natural state which definitely isn't straight. The amount of spinal curve varies in each of us. The best way to get an idea of how your back is in a neutral state is to practice constructive rest. There are a few videos on this channel about that. Hope that makes sense!

Oh that's exactly what you should do when you pick up your luggage from the carousel at the airport. That one is a hard task cuz you have to do it quickly without much prep, or your bag will be gone... And you definitely can't twist your spine.

That's the perfect example! Wish I had thought of that!
