One thing I have been noticing when throwing is how bent the arm is when throwing is different with everyone some people like catapult it over with no arm bend at all but some bend their arm to a 90° angle when coming through. How much of a bend should there be?

At this point I’m not convinced there is a perfect answer to this. It’s a complicated movement and a lot of factors/variables exist when throwing. I believe the throwing arm should be loose and elastic when throwing. With that said, an efficient throw is what you are looking for. The least amount of wasted energy and the least amount of harm done to the body. Hope this helps!

I bettered my javelin throw to the point where the tail is not landing on the ground. But it is still almost vertical in the air before kind of correcting itself and landing on the ground flat. I’m consistently throwing only 95 ft and I thought, based on me being able to throw and American football 55 yards, I could throw much further if I can fix that problem

If you can throw a football 55 yards, you should be able to learn to throw the javelin far as well. The form is a bit different but understanding the technique is the first step. Prob dropping ur throwing arm trying to get air under the jab, not keeping a strong wrist when throwing, or are opening ur block side too early causing your front side to open up and the jav go vertical maybe

hey coach, I am switching from a 50m jav to a stiffer 70m jav what is the best way to do so without hurting my arm?

That jump won’t be too bad but definitely stay loose and line up your throws with a good arm position.

Throw through the point. It's very important to get your mobility up. There are various preference on Javelin type, try that low flex javelin and see how it works with your current strength level and technique

how much farther should your full throw be compared to your standing throw
@coachhalley
@coachhalley 2 месяца назад
I'm not sure there is an accurate formula out there. I'm sure a coach has produced something but in reality, I have not seen a specific distance play out consistently. If you can't throw farther with more speed on the runway, then there is a problem in your technique. If a full approach and a 7 step go the same distance or less, you're probably not setting up your body to produce a throw. I just created a javelin course on my website that addresses this very topic. The entire course is a progression. Each phase of the throw builds on top of the previous with the anticipation of the full approach and the speed it brings. I always say that each phase of the throw should prepare you for what follows. Sorry I don't have a specific answer other than, more steps with more speed should produce a farther throw.

Standing throw is sort of a different skill, you could throw 56m and still not be able to throw 70m with a full throw depending on your technique. But for sure, if your technique is good you should be going over 10m+ from your standing throw. Elite throwers go up to 20m+

Yes, lowering the hand is really hard to recover from, especially when moving really fast. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
