I was as hard as anybody on Giorgiev after game 1,& the last few wks.But Im so glad you said both goals arent really on him.Im so tired of casuals thinking every goal scoredd is always all on the goalie. I heard a few simplistic folks give Giorgiev credit overall last night-but try to blame him for the goals. 1st goal he didn't track great -but mostly is on Trenin for falling asleep kinda. 2nd goal isn't Giorgievs fault or any Avs fault. It's 2 on 1-where WPG makes a great pass,& an All Star Scheflie makes a PHENOMENAL tip,& finish. Newsflash-the opponent is pretty good,& occasionally makes a great play. These same people don't blame the opposing goalie for every goal we score-lol. But maybe Anninen still being sick is blessing in disguise. Not sure what Bednar would've fine-but I probably would've started him last night if he was available. But with only Prospotov as an option last night-I understood,& agreed with giving Giorgiev another shot. Even Anninen doesn't have large enough sample size to say we know he can do it.Most his starts were against bad teams anyways. But after the last few wks,& especially game 1-I thought the team had lost faith in him,& you might have no choice-if only for the locker room. But Giorgiev was very good last night-but as you said-the defense was as good as it's been in weeks. 3rd period looked like 2022 Avs closing out 3rd period lead. This yrs team is beyond phenomenal at comebacks-even multi goal-iin& thank God cuz they rarely have multi goal,3rd period lead. But when they have -they haven't been great at closing it out smartly,& conservatively-without turtling completely. And Giorgiev hasn't helped in some of those blown leads. But 1 thing we do KNOW-Giorgiev has the potential. He led the NHL in wins,& was an All Star-which was ridiculous-but he got in cuz he truly was a top 5 NHL goalie last regular season-behind the most injury decimated defending champ in 3 decades. And was fine vs Seattle-Grubauer slightly outplayed him -but only cuz he was great/super lucky. This yr Giorgiev has got less help from his defense but on balance was a slightly below average NHL starter. But he has proved it somewhat-Anninen,& Prospotov haven't proven it in the regular season-let alone playoffs. I'm not remotely completely sold everything is solved with Giorgiev or the defense. But last night was a huge dose of confidence for Giorgiev, his teammates,& coaches...& even us.I work at Ball arena,& that atmosphere will be less on edge,& much more supportive of Giorgiev at the start.Had he struggled last night-or if we'd just lost-that crowd would be noticably nervous,& on the edge of turning on Giorgiev.Couldve been an even worse situation than playing on the road in some ways. I don't expect the best goalie on earth to keep struggling or the best defensive team WPG-to keep making uncharacteristic & sometimes shocking defensive mistakes-they haven't been good. But some of that is on the Avs speed,& skill...Avs do have the more talented roster I've said all season. But WPG has the more consistent depth,& goalie. We don't need Giorgiev to be elite...but we can't have awful. If he's even slightly worse than last night-we should have a chance. But if him,& the defense play like that constantly-our 2nd round vs Vegas or Dallas could easily end up being for the Cup.

Completely agree! I hope Georgiev realizes his potential and uses it as confidence!

Georgiev had a way better game today and he was more confident because when he is not confident he plays like he has been playing

the reason he was confident was that his team in front of him didnt give up any inch for free. he was lousy in game one as was the whole team defense in game 1.

No one believed me when i said game 1 made me feel so much better about the series than I was going into the series. Winnipegs whole gimmick is that the sufficate teams against the wall in the D zone and the boys have completely denied that to dominate winnipeg offensively. All we had to do is tighten up our D play (since our D tends to focus more on scoring than defending) and we have a good shot at the cup

also we got into Hellebuycks head game 1 and I knew once we decided to play defense and Georgiev could stop one crucial stop the series is wraps.

I would have had I read your comment as I felt the same. Hated the result but the Avs tilted the ice most of game one and lost because the Jets made them pay on the few mistakes and Georgiev had a bad game. Prior to the series, my main concern was that the Jets defensive style threw the Avs skaters off during the season. Bedsy did his homework and made all the right adjustments. The new concern is goaltending as although Georgiev played great last night, does that continue? And does Helle continue to make mistakes as he cost them a couple last night not being ready on the draw for the Wood goal and mishandling the puck that Trenin snatched from him on the game winner from Parise.

@@thenextgreat8652 I feel this is a turn around point for Georgiev and the avs defense as a whole. On Sunday they just looked uninterested in playing defense, whereas last night they were blocking shots, getting in passing lanes and such. But the best part, was when the avs defense broke down once or twice, Georgiev was there to save us. Thats all we need him to do is be a .900 to .910 goalie and save us from break downs once or twice a game. For helle, I have always believed the avs had his number, besides this regular season, I feel like we always beat Winnipeg because we scored on helle a lot, so thats not my biggest worry.
