I've had an airbrush now for a month and i recently found your videos. They are super helpful and to my surprise your shop is only about 30 minutes from my house! Thanx for the videos!
Ryan, really like the way you give honest ,clear, easy to understand advice (opinions). It is very selfless of you to put up all these videos of tips and techniques. Very classy. People who have great talent and are willing to share it with others or rather teach others for purely wanting to see others do well is very commendable. Great job!
I bought an airbrush last week at the local hobby shop, now I'm addicted. I've watched several airbrush videos and this guy seems the best at conveying the most useful tips and tricks.
Another retired engineer Ryan, your vid taught me the importance of not relying on templates. Watching videos like yours' inspires me to better my knowledge and put more practice in. TANK Uuuu, fae 'Bonny Scotland' PS "fae" translates as 'from'
I know people, and your modesty, the heart you put into this video and love for improvement and progress just makes me give you most mad respect ever, brotha! One day I might send a project for you to judge. Greetings from Latvia.
this guy is awesome for all of his videos and giving his expert tips and advice. ive been airbrushing for a little over a year and I love it and I cant get enough of this guys videos. thx for all your videos and advice bro keep up the badass work
esteban steven Yes, this guy is awesome. I love the airbrush as well. For years I was struggling with a Badgers siphon fed brush and a cheap compressor. I almost quit and then I purchased the Iwatta Eclipse. What a difference.
Hey man. Just found your channel and am currently learning about airbrushing myself. Wanted to say that your videos are REALLY useful! I know this is 5 years old now, but I am very much enjoying them all. Hope you are well!
I LOVE WHAT YOU SAID ABOUT STENCILS, i'VE BEEN AIRBRUSHING PROFFESSIONALLY for over 20 years and have just recently started using stencils. They are very helpfull but if you rely on them I think you should just go to making decals. Sorry about the cap lock lol, thank you for your humble advice!
Just starting... got my first airbrush this week. Best advice I've herd so far on starting. I'm just starting to look around and I noticed alot use stencils, great advive on not depending on stencils I look forward to going thur more of your videos. Thanks for sharing......
Man, your advise and the way you relate it to people is so clear and informative! really, keep it up man! Im just starting up in this industry and.. yes, all that I know, technically with an airbrush, Ive picked it up on youtube watching videos of you and some other very talented people! Keep it up!!
could you please tell me why you said createx is not good on metal?? i have been useing it for a few year's now with no real problems...your work is grate, hope to see you post more of it..thanks
Hi Ryan, very impressed with what you are doing with your airbrush tutorials. You have an impressive knowledge of different techniques, with a unique approach to painting - as you alluded to, fundamental draughtmanship and knowledge of composition and perspective is still required, and even a slick instrument like an airbrush, will not disguise that fact .
Thank you for the tips Ryan. As an artist new to airbrushing I found your advice very useful. And will probably save me a lot of time and money and grief if I stick with products that a professional uses. So sharing the information to help people like me reflects your character. I bought a Masters system (I just wanted to know if this was something that I would enjoy). Not too expensive, but within a week I was researching whats the best airbrushes on the market. There are many, but decided on the Iwata Eclipse even before I saw your video. Your tips on paints answered my next question, invaluable. My art teacher alway said to try and buy the best products that you can afford when learning. What did I get out of your video.....Certainty. So keep the video's coming Ryan for Newbies like me.
where have you been hiding? Damn Ryan, you are good, and do very good instructional videos. I am "intermediate" level, but always looking for good tips & tricks! Thanks!!
I am considering getting back in to airbrushing, I have been out of it for about 16 years. It's funny I have about 35 airbrushes and 3 finishing guns and 1 h v l p sprayer. there just sitting there waiting to get messy. I turned to photography for my artistic release. Painting with an airbrush is so fun.
Just for clarification, there are 'open-topped cups' for side-feed airbrushes. I use a side-feed Iwata and am able to do gradual shading by adding a couple drops to the open-topped cups. Thanks for all your efforts.
Free tip Ryan: always have a spare needle, specially if you already know that you will eventually break the one you're using! Great video, keep it up! ;-)
GREAT ADVICE. Improve your freehand skills. Always improve your skills,no matter what they are. Really appreciate you sharing your knowledge and ideas with everyone. One thing I heard you say in another video that Coast Airbrush says they are the only place to get small containers of paint. Not giving CA the knock or anything but tcpglobal carries 2&4 oz bottles of HOK,Custom Color and many more. Just thought I would throw that out there so you knew
Ryan, great vids, very informative and helpful advice. One comment, when I'm taking a break from painting, I watch a lot of videos on airbrushing, but one thing that may be apparent to others but having a hard time with is painting on dark backgrounds. I have had a hard time finding is painting on black or dark surfaces. I am trying to learn how to 'blend' my artwork onto surfaces such as a black tank and not have them look like they are stuck on or 'framed'. It would be a big help to see some videos of how you get your artwork on dark backgrounds, such as a motorcycle tank to look as if the tank is part of the artwork. Keep up the excellent videos I really appreciate all your knowledgeable advice.
Ryan I have to just say this you are my role model right now... I want to do just what you want to do, paint cars and trucks at an autobody shop. Im 13 and im not one of those kids who want to stay young I want to work at an autobody shop right know... So if theres any advice you can give to me when it comes to painting cars and trucks... You can make it a video if want I don't really care just give me some advice.. Keep up the great work!!!!!!!!!
I appreciate the tips, I am about 51 years old and can draw anything and have fooled around with Airbrushes. I am now retire and would really like to take it up to do some friends cars and stuff. I heard you say you took a class in Vegas. Since I am just out side Vegas Can you recommend any Airbrush classes I could take in Vegas now to help me. Thanks Kurt
You rock, subscribed. Everybody talking about milk consistency... You went much far with your explanation about reducing colors and this video was very good in general. I love it.
Ryan thank you so much for your videos, you have really helped me out being I am a beginner.I have done airbrush work and purchased DVD's but you really cleared up a lot of things that I had questions about. Could you maybe do a video on prep, like for a golf cart or plastic bodies for cars or side by side ATV's. Keep up the good work and thanks again for sharing, I have learned so much from you...
Oh, and I should point out that while this is going to cost a lot more right now, it will also save you money over the same number of needles by not having to spend more on shipping
Ryan how's it going? I purchased the iwata eclipse after talking with you and it is worth the price. When I first started airbrushing I freehanded everything because I felt like people who used stencils was cheating and not true artist. Now that I've been airbrushing for about 4yrs and from talking with other airbrush artist I found that you need to use every technique to compete with today's competition. I recently went back to freehanding and will be posting some video's soon. Thanks!
G, day Ryan, Mate, please keep up your Awsome advice !! Its people like you that make our world a better place, you give away your knowledge on here for free and for that I cant thank you enough, Cheers mate :)
Nice advice! I've been airbrushing for a few years... And I'm definitely the T-Shirt guy you kept referring to, lol... But I definitely want to expand onto hard surfaces such as, auto, helmets, etc. For those types of work, what kind of preparation goes into the surface? For example, are you supposed to sand down helmets, and if so... With what?
Great video man. Allot of really usefull tips. thx... And I agree about the stencils. The are a great tool, but that´s it...a tool to help in the creating of a artwork.
I have a problem with my Badger and hope you can help: When I pull the trigger backwards no paint will come out for about 2 millimeters. Pull further and suddenly to much paint comes out.(Spider, argh) Also a little paint will spitt out on release of the trigger. Thanks much for help!
Thanks for the tips, looking to get in to air bruising and spray gun painting. Therefore, my question is how about the compressor? What is a good air compressor that can handle both an airbrush and a spray gun???
Hi Ryan amazing talent you have! You said that you have done brush painting before you got into airbrushing. My art has been based on Charcoal and I want to take a crack at airbrushing. Everyone is different but I am curious to know how hard the transition was from a brush to a air brush.
@BerserkCustomPaint Thanks for the fast reply! I'm working on paper, so there's no base coat. Perhaps that's the issue because the paint is totally stuck to the paper fibres, and can't just rub off. I saw in your other video that you used a blade to scratch back, so I'll give this a try too, although maybe that won't work well on paper either.
hi ....i am a beginner i recently bought a airbrush setup.....i really liked your video and i wanted to get some help and advice from a professional like you ......so i bought the whole setup but i forgot to do research on what kind of paint to be used ! ...please help me here !
I have been airbrushing for a little bit and I have all the basics down. I'm decent at true flames and basic effects with stencils. I'm going to start practicing to really get my Skulls looking detailed and 3D like yours. I use an Iwata HP-BCS and Iwata HP-C, but the Micron $500! Geez! Do you recommend any other type of airbrush that can give you this kind of detail?
Hey man, got a question that I think you're one of the few who can actually answer lol. I'm looking to paint my guitar and brush in a stencil I drew up. I've been using high end spray paint but i cant seem to get that shit smooth and flat. Im contemplating using more of an automotive paint, probably HOK. What would you recommend as far as base paint, color, and finish? I want a high gloss finish with some nice depth...
@BerserkCustomPaint Makes sense. also i've watched all of your vids and in my opinion they are by far the best airbrush vids on youtube. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skill!
Thanks for the video! I know what you mean about enjoying others get better. I do many different crafts (including cutting my own stencils!) and paint in watercolour. I share a lot of what I do on my youtube channel and blog. Getting an airbrush soon (gift) to add to my arsenal of crafting..:)
Thanks for the video! You mentioned electric erasers. I have one of these which I use a lot for my pencil drawings, and I've tried it on the airbrush work but it doesn't do anything. It's a vinyl eraser tip, and it just doesn't have any effect on the paint (I use wicked colours). Is yours a vinyl eraser, or do you have a more solid, abrasive eraser in it?
thanks for the tips on spitting, i believe the same with stencils i only use them for border and holding a piece to make a hard line. what is a good acrylic enamel clearcoat forthe createx? i use duplicolor clear enamel but im sure there is something better that wont destroy the paint work
@SuperJPLR @SuperJPLR If it just quit putting out paint while you were spraying you probably have paint dried on the tip. Take off the aircap/nozzle ass'y and check. Wipe off the needle and you clean out the aircap/nozzle with a Q-tip wet with thinner, or you may have to use a VERY fine piece of wire. If all else fails, soak it overnight in thinner appropriate the paint you're using. I use ammonia for cleaning acrylics, lacquer thinner for everything else.
What about a respirator? I have stayed away from Urethane because I'm not sure what kind of mask... or rather, what kind of filters I should be using for clears and urethane paints? And how long can you use the filters for? I have a 3M mask but I was never sure of the filters if the ones I'm buying are actually gonna protect my lungs or how long I should be using them for. So I've only been using water base paints since it's not quite as dangerous.
great videos, very helpfull. i've always been a keen drawer and have just bought my first airbrush, quick question, if i draw with my left hand, should i hold the airbrush in my right and control with my left? or vice versa? keep up the great work, very inspiring!
