Today, August 17, 2014, we head over to The Palatka, FL (PAK) Amtrak Station. The Northbound 98 Silver Meteor was 24 minutes late and was at the station for a combined 5 minutes. But, because of my editing you only have to watch a couple of minutes! We were expecting the Phase IV Heritage Unit #184. Unfortunately it wasn't on there for whatever reason. Although there wasn't a heritage unit, it quickly turned into an awesome trip because of all the great horn action and also the cool engineer. I wish he would've stopped a car further so I could have talked to him! Thanks for watching. I hope you enjoy!

That was awesome. Stopping the train to acknowledge the person or people admiring the trade. It's a true sign of integrity.

Danielle Chanel.5 that horn actually had a valve that could be manipulated manually much likje a switch engine. Road engines in freight service that I use are just a button that activates an electric solenoid, ya poosh da button, it goes hoooot and that's it.

Actually the P42DC has a push button and it can quill. Some freight locomotives and passenger locomotives have them also, and most have levers.

Great video catch. One small detail though, locomotive engineers sit on the right side of the cab, & Conductors sit on the left. So, it was the Conductor/assistant conductor waving out the window as they went by.

If you like Amtrak flybys, here's about 20 of them, outside of Washington DC - quality varies, but they cover a busy stretch from Garrett Park to Silver Spring, with a fairly interesting roadbed: multiple cuts and fills, a causeway, a bridge, and three S-curves, to cross Rock Creek valley and climb the Georgia Avenue ridge ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jEo8M9q-RN4.html

I can understand why the train could be late ...when stupid people run across the tracks in front of the train or vehicles cut in front of the train or any number of other events that make the train do an emergency stop ...then you have handicapped people getting on or off delaying departures ...it's a wonder it ever gets where it's going
@froztytrainfilms9148
@froztytrainfilms9148 5 лет назад
xadam2dudex not only that, for the most part, the tracks that the Amtrak train runs on aren’t owned by them, but rather freight companies like CSX, NS, BNSF, etc.. Only a few places like in Michigan and the Northeast corridor are where Amtrak owns the track, and operate their trains at a much faster speed than on other tracks

Why in America do they call train drivers, engineers? . An engineer is somebody who has gone to third level college and studied Mechanical, Chemical, Civil engineering among others to Diploma or Degree level for a period of at least 3 to 4 years. A train driver is a guy pressing on a lever to move a train or engine forward or backwards on a predetermined route. This requires no brain power just a pulse to show evidence of being awake and alive. Big difference.
@krispykremeking2329
@krispykremeking2329 6 лет назад
Richard Walsh The term engineer as driver is rarely used in the UK today, although a trade union representing train drivers iscalled the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen (Aslef), founded in the late 19th Century. An Aslef spokesman said the name reflected the meaning of the time. www.bbc.com/news/blogs-magazine-monitor-32758223

@richardwalsh1838
@richardwalsh1838 6 лет назад
Krispy Kreme King it's obvious that the term Engineer referring to train drivers is completely out of date and a legacy of the past. A train driver is quite simply a train driver and to call him an Engineer is just plain silly and inaccurate. If a train driver wishes to be called an Engineer then he needs to go to a third level college and study an engineering discipline to Diploma or Degree level and then he can be rightly called an Engineer.
