Nice work 👍. Me I would of put the spring lock pin 90 degree's not sticking out. My luck I would introduce the side of my leg into it. Then I'll need a waterproof Band-Aid.😂 looks great better than the steel ones

I did the same thing Randy. A neighbor down the street had some workers cutting down a live oak tree. I got a chunk of the trunk and trimmed it with the chain saw. It’s awesome. My son looked at me like I was crazy when I was showing it to him. But people like me and you get it. We are psyched every time we look at our anvil and stump.

Wood is always beautiful Oak is the perfect wood as a brit the world was accessible because of oak. Just an observation - we always "girdle" oak in high stress uses, piercing the heartwood transfers the stresses through the block against the grain where a girdle lets the heartwood do it;'s job by soaking impact stress and taking the force with the grain to ground and not across the pins with nowhere to go. Don't make it rigid. if you put it together tight (ish) then pour a few buckets of water on it the wood will fill any pockets to make a perfect fit. Apparently it's what stop masts breaking and the spar beams and keel shattering rather than absorbing impact shocks. That said I doubt you'll break it. the top and bottom bands will (even if the cracks complete) keep the pieces together and the grain can take over and do it's job Traditionally you'd heat fit a riveted "square ring" rim and "wet fit" the gapswater first then allow to dry to the atmosphere then oil to maintain the size without further expanding. The oil sets it off perfect, I'd have it as a chair-side table.and not get it dirty.

I did mine out of laminated 10x10cm boards.It was super easy to do.I left middle a bit shorter on a bottom side so it is more stable .Wood glue holds it without any extra addons. Best thing with lamination is that its super easy to get top part flat.I was considering adding all threaded rods or steel packing bands around it but that was not necessary. Nothing wrong with traditional stumps but they are such a pain in ass to get flat.

I am concerned the wheels will be too narrow to take it out onto gravel or the ground. You might want to make the handle a little longer so you don't need to bend over to move it.

Can I use a truck axle to make pins for the bucket of a small trackhoe? Thanks for any advice, idk if the pins need to be hard or what the axle is made from..
@RRINTHESHOP
@RRINTHESHOP 2 года назад
The pin are usually not hard, so they wear and not the bushings. I would think an axle would work fine.
@jsteifel
@jsteifel 2 года назад
what is an upsetting block?
@RRINTHESHOP
@RRINTHESHOP 2 года назад
It is used to upset the end on a piece of stock to increase the mass at the end. Placed lower than the anvil so it is easier to hammer on the stock. Think on making a ball on the end. Thanks for asking.

Yikes, I’m sitting on dining room chairs that aren’t as nice as that anvil stand. I’m eager to see the tray build and how you get its sockets parallel. Surprised you located the handle on the opposite side of the anvil’s horn as the upsetting anvil. Thought you would have put it on the same side to be more or less on center of mass. Insane stand but need FAT wheels the skinny ones look too wimpy for such a fine stand.
