Fun Facts:
~ I’ve never owned a vehicle (Or Drivers license)
~ Smartphone either
~ Born & raised Anglophone in Montreal, I speak French & learned enough Spanish, Croatian & Arabic growing up to get myself into conversations which are well over my head but good fun!
~In 1998 I left Montreal with only a suitcase and headed west on an amazing-summer long cross country adventure that landed me in Calgary, Alberta where I took a job washing dishes, shortly after I was the pub manager, a job I loved and had to learn on the fly!
~In 2008 I sold my home in Calgary & moved over 5000 kilometers to a place I’d never been in search of a more meaningful existence & have been making things up ever since, living free and on my own terms connected to nature. (I'd never seen or heard of sea glass before moving to a road which turns to dirt, then falls into the sea, however its discovery was inevitable as its everywhere!)
~ My first 2 summers on Cape Breton were spent working on a farm, living in a tent next to a cornfield. We had to walk a kilometer to the farmhouse & back everyday for water, showering when it rains or the closest body of water (side note, I learned quickly soap won’t lather with saltwater!).🙃
Those experiences further enhanced my appreciation for life’s simplicities & the importance of living on ones own terms…1000 generations have led to these moments (Long days spent on my knees harvesting are probably why I’m such a good picker!)
~ After the farm didn't pan out, I went bankrupt & found myself in need of social assistance (welfare) for a short period, which is how I became a "Professional Beachcomber" by turning my passion into a career many years ago. Side note, I wouldn't recommend what I do to anyone!
~ I'm Left handed (Teaching myself music upside-down!)
~ I spend under $100 on clothing a year. Which you might of noticed
~ I spend $0.00 on takeout food a year however do appreciate (and miss) the tastes of each and every restaurant chain.
~ Everyday I walk my doggies (off leash by the sea or through the woods) a minimum of 10 kilometers a day. Since moving to Cape Breton we’ve walked the equivalent of earths circumference multiple times together without leaving the island! 🌎
~ My 19th Century built (one bedroom) home doesn’t have a dryer, bathtub, or foundation. During the coldest winter chill I’ve gone weeks without running water. It’s “cottage living” year round.
~ A small brook runs behind my home, it’s an ancient trail once used by indigenous people and early settlers, despite urbanization any animal imaginable can follow the stream past my window to my amazement! (Growing up in Montreal the largest undomesticated animal I’d ever encountered was a squirrel!).
~ In my youth I wanted to be John Lennon when I grew up. His words & message have always spoke dearly to me heart.
~ That being said, I live my life like a Beatles song & do my best to “Radiate Everything I Am” without fear & be the change I want to see In the world .
~ I don’t eat meat with the exception of when kind neighbors leave a food basket on my front step, then I won’t waste it.
~ In person my excitement level is greatly amplified, no matter the activity.
~ Music-wise, I'm probably listening to the 90’s (The sounds of my youth) although the years which surround it are awesome as well!
~ Mostly, If you think I’m passionate about sea glass, I wish you could see me with my children & the special relationship we have. They are life’s greatest gift and all I need.
~ If you've made it this far theirs's one more thing I wanted you to know however its not easy for me to say:
Every moment I struggle with the Symptoms of Asperger's Syndrome, which might help with understanding why I'm so passionate, have a great memory, a terrible grip & live the secluded life of a sea hermit, safe for my children. Also why I always have music on as it helps keep me "out" of my head.
I've such a deep rooted empathetic connection to the world. Each and every one of you mean so very much to me, I cant thank you enough for your love and positive support!
The world is a better place when we're able to treat a stranger like an old friend and make them feel good about themselves!
Oceans of love all! 🧡
Please subscribe to my channel so you won’t miss any of my Beachcombing adventures & educational videos! (It only takes a moment, is free & lets me know I'm on the right track which fills my heart with joy!)

Hey Jodi! 🌅 Thank you so much for letting me know you’re enjoying my videos and the knowledge shared!🌅 I’m so sorry I’m only having the opportunity to write you back now, my sea glass shanty (downtown Sydney, just past the worlds largest fiddle) has been open 7 days a week since June 1st and as you might of noticed (by my lack of videos) Ive been busier than ever before. Unfortunately at this point Ive not been selling my most remarkable finds as they become part of my historical collection down at my shop for tourists to both learn from and enjoy!💫 Your kind words mean so much to me, I appreciate this very much my friend!💯 Hugs! I'd never heard people with Asperger's syndrome have great memories. It stood out to me because a old friend and I were discussing memories and I told her I can still remember the first time I pulled myself up to standing position as a infant in my nylon mesh playpen. My legs shaking on the way up. I began taking steps and walking at 9 months , that was a long time ago in my mind ! 💕🌿To good memories ❣️

Hey there!🌅 Asperger’s syndrome is not a “cookie cutter” diagnosis (I’ve come to learn). 💫 Through my experiences, the individuals I’ve met who also carry the symptoms of Asperger’s syndrome possess a similar memory capacity as I do, especially when it pertains to something which they are passionate for.💯 Thanks for coming along on the adventure and sharing this thought with me!💫 Hugs! 🧡

We found lots of Cape May Diamonds when we visited there. They were cloudy to clear. I still have some. I love collecting rocks. My son brought me some very nice sea glass when he went to Italy. I am proud to be a 67 year old woman who collects sea glass and other types of "rocks". I love to find some kind of rock or sea glass and look at it closely. I keep a collection, I gave my husband many heart shaped objects over the years. I love your enthusiasm.

Hi there Carol! 🌅 I’m so glad to meet you and hear of your treasure hunting experiences! Cape May diamonds are something I only wish to one day have the opportunity to discover! ☀️ Spending time next to the water, hunting treasures away from the real world is what keeps me (and so many others) balanced within. I love giving away my heart shaped rocks to tourists who visit ( it’s remarkable how many people love heart rocks, good thing I recover plenty of them!☀️ Hugs Carol!🧡 Thanks so much for coming along on the adventure with me! 💫

🤣 Mice absolutely startle the dickens out of me as well! 💯 I think it’s the sudden (unexpected) movement…and rodents are absolutely everywhere here! I wish I was making videos back when Michael and I slid through that basement window and recovered that old fire grenade bottle…I pass by the property everyday. The foundation was filled in & since buried by sediment and grass growth. A newcomer would never suspect a house once stood there.💫 I’m so glad you enjoyed this adventure, and the memories it creates!💯 Hugs Amber! 🌅

I always look forward to hunting for sea glass with you. Love how you can look at a bit of glass and "see" what it once was. That's always a real treat. Also really appreciated your "Fun Facts". I don't think I could live the way your do, I'm too soft and used to the conveniences for certain. Your joy in the little things and the love you have for your kids and dogs is apparent. I think you are doing "you" very well. Thank you for sharing and keep the videos coming please. I dream of going somewhere to hunt for sea glass someday. I care for my elderly Mom, so trips are out of the question, near or far for the time being. So, you bring some of my dreams to me in each and every video. For this I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Stay safe and well. Hugs from Texas!

Awe!🧡 Kyra, you’ve absolutely made my morning perfect and beautiful Keith your kind words here.🌅🌅🌅 Thank you!🙏 Taking care of loved ones is our greatest privilege and responsibility to me. It helps me understand where I came from, and why I am who I am! 💫 I’m so glad to read you believe in who I try to be as a human and create value through kindness, love and attention, you as well, caring for your mom showcases these same strong virtues! I know you’ll have the opportunity to hunt for sea glass in the future, Texas and nearby regions definitely have sea glass hunting grounds. If I could go anywhere to hunt sea glass it would be Puerto Rico, or Bermuda, (although I’m told they’re strict in the latter!) I’m so glad you love coming along on the adventures with me Kyra!🧡 It’s such a pleasure for me to have friends to connect with. Truthfully, I wouldn’t recommend my life to anyone however it’s the product of everyday off my life, which I’ve been making up as I go along, ever since walking out of College with (well) above passing grades in search of “life experience” in the late 90’s. My neighbours are all so kind, it’s old world living out this way, everyone knows everyone’s business. That said, without a doubt, financially speaking, I’m the poorest man in town yet everyone sees me playing with my children, laughing hugging…they see other children drawn to the laughter and joining in… They understand I’m the richest man in the world. That I’ve sacrificed material and financial gains for what I believe is most important in life. And the reward is the joy infinite! Hugs Kyra!🧡🧡🧡 I thank you as well from the bottom of my heart!🌅🙏🌅

I was at my local beach (Largs) for a wee visit today and although I did not find anything worth the mention it was great to be there and feel the sea breeze. Look forward to your next upload.

Thanks so much for the awesome video Mike. Your enthusiasm, knowledge and humour make for great viewing. I thought the find of the day was going to be that unreal purple piece, until the kids found the black cod marble at the end. I had this on, whilst sorting my own latest treasure haul (mostly brown and white, but very good quality, and some nice other coloured nuggets and pottery shards). I'm really looking forward to seeing the vid of your Winter haul. I AM preparing myself to be shocked !...and also keen to see the creations you make with your finds. Hi there Pam!🌅 Thanks for coming along on the adventure with me!☀️ I’m so glad you enjoyed the video!🧡 Absolutely, sea glass entered the ocean (mostly) through old world practices of discarding into any body of water. (Or land).💯 I moved to the Canadian maritimes in 2008 and learned quickly trash is everywhere (still) as the notion “nature takes care of rubbish” still holds strong in far too many to this day. These people are the kindest people I’ve ever met, teachers, lawyers, they leave food hampers on my doorstep and treats for my children. Unfortunately this view towards rubbish disposal have been passed down generationally, and therefore continue to be acceptable. I’m glad you loved those bonfire bottles Pam!☀️ They’re two of my favourite as well! 💯 Hugs my new friend!🧡

Your sunny disposition was like a magnet for those yellows Mike! The first yellow especially would make a gorgeous ring. I don't think I have ever seen such a deep black marble. Does it have any air bubbles? I'd love to see a video sometime featuring more of your bottles and vintage glassware collection. There is so much great history in your area! I only wish I was a silversmith, I’d make that yellow into a ring for certain!💫 I absolutely love that black marble at the end. 🖤 I actually took it to the beach with me today, to take photos and hold it up to the sun.🌊 Unfortunately, I cannot see any colour through it and therefore do not see any bubbles.💯 At this point I’m hypothesizing it’s an old “Codd” marble and possesses a heavy iron content ( Im so proud of my little Michael for finding it!)…to be continued.💫 Im thinking I’ll be sharing more of my bottles when my shop opens.🙏 We have our “tennants meeting “ tomorrow so I’ll know when we’re opening then. And..the cruise ship you are expecting was to dock here first, however had to cancel due to high winds and sea. Great question Heather!🌅 I absolutely do find Uranium glass and in a few videos I absolutely turn off the (regular) lights, and get out the black light.🖤 It’s such great fun!💫 I definitely don’t go to the shoreline after dark…their is a zone of nature one needs to traverse to get to my beach, which is inhabited by many animals, coyotes being one. In 2008, when I first moved here I did venture to the shoreline in the dark, with a flashlight…I remember pointing it into the nature and seeing dozens (and dozens) of sets of eyes reflecting back.🌛 I went home and never attempted it since! 💯

Z💯 I do have a small shop which is open seasonally and provides me with just enough income to get through the winters.☀️ I’ve made my living as a professional beachcomber for over a decade and now having so many new friends to share my experiences is a privilege and pleasure I appreciate so very much.☀️ Thank you for your warm wishes and coming along on the adventure with me! 🙏 Hugs! 🌅

Do you ever cut your fingers when picking up broken glass

Great question Dennis! 🌅 While I estimate I’ve picked between 8-12 million shards of sea glass and other glass off the beaches I’ve nevertheless been cut by glass (to memory). That said, I’ve definitely been cut far too many times by sharp remains of steel fishing traps while sifting through pebbles and absolutely am up to date with my tetanus shot!💯 Thanks for coming along on the adventure with me! 🌅

Marbles are from Germany

Some of the most beautiful marbles I’ve ever seen were made in Germany, I agree Heather!🧡 I believe a fair number of the marbles I recover can be traced to American manufacturers such as “Alley” “Marble King” “Akro Agate” “Ravenswood” & “Christensen” 💯
