Yes and I am surprised that they didn't react to that song first. I was a huge it for them. I remember that the Pittsburg Pirates adopted the song the year they won the world series
This whole Platinum Grammy nominated album “We Are Family” is pure 🔥! It was a huge hit for Sister Sledge. The album includes “He’s the Greatest Dancer” , “Lost In Music”, “Thinking About You”, and “ We Are Family”. It was produced by Nile Rodgers and CHIC
This whole album played on repeat during those Saturday morning cleaning sessions back then (well, after my cartoons, lol)… Thinking About You was my fave…
and they were so FINE! I was young, but their album covers were like gold. I met Kathy Sledge a few times and she's so nice and still just as lovely as ever.
This track has chartered so many in times in the UK its ridiculous. The Sisters are idolised over here. A few months back they played for Prince William at some big gala in London Famously they also performed at the Beckhams wedding. A Spice Girl had the Sisters as guests and they performed Super cool
@michaelj.742 yes, he had pneumonia. Instead of going to the hospital he wanted to play. Nile checked on him later in his room and found him. Broke his heart. He taught Nile how to shuck his guitar
@@mkmstillstackin yes very much so. He’s plying the guitar and Bernard’s on bass I assume. It’s basically Chic with different vocalists. The instrumental break down on the long version of Good Times by chic is a real lesson on guitar and bass rhythm interplay. Everybody hired them or copied them.
If you haven’t already, you need to listen to Sister Sledge we are family written by Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards of the group chic. You listen to their song freak out. I don’t know if you liked it or not but I remember you reacting to it.
I was a young Marine stationed in Camp Pendelton Ca in 22 area when this came out. I remember it very well i met the love of my life at this time. Thanks for the memories. 😎
I mean these ladies were talent personified but the influence of nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards elevated them to another level. We are family is their best song in my opinion but this is a gem as well
It's also probably been mentioned elsewhere but all that backing music is from Chic. Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers of Chic produced this album and pretty much wrote all the songs and, of course, used the wholeness of Chic--the "Chic Strings" and that's Nile on guitar and Bernard on bass and Tony Thompson on drums (both of Chic's female vocalists, Norma Jean Wright and Alfa Anderson provided backing vocals on most of the album's tracks as well).
Track #2 from the We are Family LP. One of the greatest disco/soul albums of that era. Nile and Bernard both agreed that this was the pinnacle of all their productions and I tend to agree. "Thinking of You" is still my favorite there. God Bless all of them for crating such timeless music.
Surprised Jay doesn't remember He's the Greatest Dancer, as it was sampled by Will Smith. That one and We are Family were their greatest hits in Europe. They were produced by Chic's Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, and you can tell!
Yep The Sos band was one of my favourites in the 80's A good friend and work colleague of mine was a big fan and he introduced me to them . Rip Gary Draper 🙏
As many have said in previos comments, We Are Family is their signature song. Nile Rodgers said that it´s the song that made him earn more money in royalties than any other song he had composed
'Sister Sledge' were so big during the Disco era, they had many hits apart from the ones you've done the ones that I recommend are: "Mama Never Told Me", "Love Don't You Go Through No Changes On Me", "We Are Family", "Thinking Of You", "All American Girls", "He's Just a Runaway", "Frankie". There are many other tracks but these are good ones to continue with.
SISTER SLEDGE!!! Yes, music is my sanity. I've spent whole days doing nothing but YouTubing song after song, country, rock, classical, disco, metal folk, and back again.
When I think of sister groups like the Boswell sisters and the Andrews sisters and the Pointer sisters, I forget Sister Sledge. I forgot how tight they were. Thanks for bringing them up, now I won’t forget them anymore.
It's so good cuz that's Chic!! Nile Rodgers on guitar, Bernard Edwards on bass & Tony Thompson on drums...gotta hear next We Are Family & All American Girls!!
You REALLY have to listen to their song "We are Family" ICONIC. I requested it at my sister's wedding back in 1980. Me and my 9 sisters got up on the dance floor together. I grabbed them and made them get up there. Rare moments for us. You will understand why I wanted them up on that floor when you hear the song. Also, see if you can identify the guitar strumming pattern in the background. He was instrumental in the production of so many artists over 5 decades .He recently got into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
Sister Sledge are real sisters and their most popular song is "We Are Family"! Please do that one next! The guitar on this song sounds like the famous Nile Rogers guitar riff and I know he worked with them. He has worked with many artists from Madonna to Duran Duran to Daft Punk to Michael Jackson (and many more) and he was a member of the band, Chic! Some other great biopics about musicians to watch are The Buddy Holly Story, La Bamba (about Richie Valens), The Temptations, What's Love Got to Do With It (Tina Turner, of course), and Ray (Ray Charles, of course)!💖💖
Great songs for Sister Sledge:All American Girls, Got To Love Somebody, You Fooled Around. All great Chic Organization songs. There's no way if you watch sports that you have not heard We Are Family as that song has been ubiquitous for the last 45 years.
“Lost In Music” was produced by Nile Rodgers & Bernard Edwards of Chic (“Good Times” & “Le Freak”). It’s a perfect blend of funk, R&B & disco on its last breath. We definitely recommend Sister Sledge’s “We Are Family.” It’s a late 70s iconic anthem (and their best song by far).
Fantastic name for the song and their music overall as the moment you hear it you’re definitely lost in their songs - fabulous band 👏 Look at Jay going for it - definitely ‘lost in music’! 😂 WE ARE FAMILY (woah-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh) - banging!!! 💣
One of my favourite female groups from the Disco era, This is a good one but you need to hear 'We are Family' , one of the best ever to dance to-Colin Ward
Never heard this song before. The music sounds like it's a Chic song. Sister Sledge is most famous for We Are Family and probably We're All-American Girls.
It is a Chic song. Produced, played by Chic and back up singers are Chic. They just used a different sister to sing lead on these productions. Kinda misleading but it worked. Nile Rodgers the hitmaker
Nile Rodgers , Bernard Edwards , and Tony Thompson might have been the best rhythm section in the history of history, but it also featured their usual cast of background singers Alfa Anderson, Norma Jean Wright , and the LEGENDARY LUTHER VANDROSS. Luther is truly a artist you need dive into , because he phenomenal on so many levels
Several girl groups popped up around the same time. The Pointer Sisters, Sister Sledge, A Taste of Honey, and The Three Degrees (When Will I See You Again).
Sister Sledge is four sisters. Debbie oldest on vocals, Joni on vocals, Kim vocals, and the MJ of the group Kathy youngest. On lead vocals and age 19 when this album came out. But we first heard them when Kathy was 14. ❤❤❤ Much love to the Sisters on their reunion tour.
For years I thought Chic and Sister Sledge were the same band. Now I know why...Nile Rodgers, Bernard Edwards and Tony Thompson were the musicians, writers, etc...
@@empire7179 There was no MTV in the late 70s. You only heard the songs on the radio and the two bands sounded similar...easy to think they were the same since the musicians were the same and had female singers.
Hi, you two! It's Andrew Erroch fae Paisley in Scotland here again. You may notice a certain funky familiarity with this song. That's because it was written, arranged and produced by the brilliant Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards of Chic, which is another band you need to experience much more of. As others have said, you must react to Sister Sledge with 'We Are Family'. Surprisingly, this band only had one No.1 single in the UK and that was 'Frankie' in 1985. I have a strong feeling you would absolutely love that one too. Æx 🙏
I spent many happy 70s nights on the dance floor, strutting my thing to Sister Sledge. ODESSEY are another 70s floor filler band, Native New Yorker and Inside Out are well worth a listen and reaction. 🎶🎷🎧
Sister Sledge those women can sing. You should check out their whole album every song on that album "We Are Family" was good You would not be disappointed. I remember when that album first came out. I wore it out! May Joni Sledge rest in peace 🙏🏾
YES!!!!! Some of the best, OG DISCO 🪩You have to realize that when you were on the dancefloor to this music back in the day, it was trance-like; you were transported ❤. Jay and Amber, I am truly a disco aficionado; some more that you really need to hear is Gino Soccio’s “Dancer”, France Joli’s “Gonna Get Over You”, Taana Gardner’s “Heartbeat”, Chic’s “Everybody Dance”, and of course Anita Ward’s “You Can Ring My Bell”. And there is SO MUCH MORE. ❤❤❤
This first came out in 1979 then was re released 1n 1984 in the UK unedited or changed....And ive been in the same room as sister sledge !!! back in 1989 in a night club in Blackpool !! they were brought through a part of the club after the performance and me and a couple of friends were cutting through the same area ( and one of them waved back at me from the stage during their performance) Happy times xx
Hi J And Amber, the fact that they harmonize so well is perhaps because they are really sisters and belong to the best disco groups and if Amber likes this song she will love "We are family" or "Frankie"
It has been a hit more than once here in the UK, in the 80s Nile Rogers remixed it with backing vocals from Duran Duran who enlisted him to produce one of their albums
Also Please don't forget to check out: Christina Aguilera - Ain't No Other Man - Candy Man (Both Great Horns !!)
