He only learns other languages after much later his pod creates the foundation of the fortress of solitude which allows him to learn a lot of alien languages by his late 20s. He's always considered himself the American boy Clark Kent, with him only accepting the name Kal-el as a secondary name. (Sigh) Its sad when people market something old as something new cause the audiance is new young to do a little bit of research. And the idea that Jor-el's device wouldn't have a high tech translator isn't innovative its...kind of dumb.

Interesting. I watched it when I was a kid, but it’s been a long time. I’m working my way through the 90’s animated Superman show. Thinking about rewatching the Justice League show next

Word, it's really just a plot convenience that a lot of sci-fi writers use to simplify the plot. It doesn't make sense, but I guess most people don't care. At least the Green Lantern Corps have some kind of universal translator to make it makes sense...

@@Drising0257 You make a fair point here. It's possible for the sentient AI to learn english. Which is probably what will happen in the next season. But I still think that it's an interesting choice to show that happening rather than just have the audience assume the AI learned English

True, though Smallville is a very long extended version of the Superman origin story. So they made Jor-El a very long extended mystery before introducing the hologram version of him.

Yeah that's true. I learned recently that Superman is a language expert. But as an origin story I think starting him her was cool. I don't know if Im spoiling this for you but in the final episode of the season it does seem like Clark is starting to understand Kryptonian.

I love the way you broke it down, because all those tropes are such a lazy excuse to not have the audience have to read subtitles. But with just a little more effort to introduce a universal translator or just show the process of learning the language it makes the story so much more believable

Thank you. A lot of people have mentioned that Apple Pie was British, but like Kal El, it may be from somewhere else but it was embraced in America. Just like a lot stuff Americans love like French Fries or Hamburgers that are from Germany

I don’t think that all Kriptonians were evil, I think is just that the the Obed we have seen are probably Zod and his alies, also we know Brainiac is with the evil Kriptonians so is probably just a select gruop of evil Kriptonians that survived the destruction of Kryption, like most of the versions of the Kriptonians.

I feel like in Season 2 they’ll show us the Kryptonians aren’t actually evil. Just General Zod and Brainiac. I think it’s about keeping the mystery for people who don’t know the original story. Like how they made General Lane a twist even though Lois’s dad is always a general. Did not realize that about apple pie. I had to google that so now I know lol. Though I’m pretty sure it’s just an expression…

Word, I love that Clark has to improve over time; the creators said that was because of the anime influence, so hopefully there’ll be more of that in Season 2. But yeah, it’s crazy how many people will suddenly hate a show because of minor changes to a character’s skin color or haircut 🙄

One of the times this was called out was when New 52 Wally West meets the real Wally West, a reality warp rebirth happens, and its altered that New 52 Wally West was actually some super distant cousin named Wallace West who was made to think he was Wally West. In other words that literally can happen with any DC character that was black washed for diversity points. He could be Jimmy Olsen, but he could also be a distant cousin brainwashed by Dr. Manhatten to think he's Jimmy Olsen. This is literally a thing in the entire DC multiverse now.

​@@9751mattto be fair to the show the race change isn't as big a deal as it is on shows like supergirl where they change the entire character of jimmy aswell as his race. In MAWS jimmy is the same original character just has a different skin colour but he's jimmy olsen through and through.

I love this comment so much. I agree with everything you said. I’ve read so many Superman comics/seen his movies and tvs shows but he’s never been one of my top heroes because like you said it’s hard to relate to someone that is effortlessly virtuous and physically perfect. Superman stories are at their best when they show us the tool it takes on someone to be a good person. It should be easy for him to throw a punch, but it should be difficult for him to find a better way.

I get what you’re saying but it really doesn’t make sense scientifically. Language is not hardcoded into genetics. Everybody has too be taught a language and if you’re born in a different country from you parents you would end up speaking a different language

It's probably like how in anime everyone is speaking Japanese despite being from other places (best example is Jojo, as you have English, Egyptian, Germans, and other groups all speaking Japanese)

Most Americans (especially those that are 30+) don't seem to be too open to subtitles in their shows. I feel most younger people (30 and under?) tend to keep subtitles on (even for English speaking shows), so maybe we'll see a shift towards that becoming more common

@@thesupergamer5894 Yeah, I'm in the older category (early 30's), and i don't mind subtitles but I have noticed younger people love keeping the subtitles on even for English language shows, so you're right that it might become more common. Plus the anime is way more mainstream than it used to be so that'll probably make people more open to it as well.

Interesting. I watched Lois and Clark when it was on a TV, but it’s been a long time. I’m pretty sure there was a hologram of Jor-el in that show too though. What’s the difference in your opinion? Also, I’d say the main reason for the change in My Adventures with Superman is just to add a sense of mystery to the Kryptonians

@@themagicalcarpetcompany well Clarke didn’t have access to Jor-El when he became Superman as the ship had been taken by a secret government agency when he was a kid. I can’t remember a hologram but my point was if he it happened it wasn’t until long after he became Superman, all he knew was he was an alien who had powers. Will say that show did also have Johnathan Kent still alive and he didn’t become Superman til like his mid 20s after travelling the world, the show actually did a lot of what Man of Steel did compared to other versions. I’m not against the mystery part but then I’d still look more to something like Smallville where Clark didn’t know if Jor-El was on the side of humanity or not, you didn’t know whether you could trust what the holograms were saying. To me just seems redundant to have hologram but not understanding what they say as opposed to just not having them, saying that though I have much bigger problems with that show like how they keep making Lois Lane look like a boy now, give me back Terri Hatcher Lois Lane or Erica Durance, She’s meant to be a bombshell as well as a top notch journalist.

Yeah absolutely. I know this show is divisive, but most writers take the easy way out. Like how you explained this small detail makes the sci-fi aspect of Superman’s origin a little more realistic. He obviously needs to learn Kryptonian later on, but for now this works.

Yeah, I feel you, but personally the quality of episodes 8-10 are worth the wait. It might be a lot to get through if you really don't like it, but my love of Superman carried me to the end

Well I think my point is that rarely is Kryptonian thought of as it’s own distinct language. Like how in Superman the Movie or Man of Steel, the people on Krypton in the beginning of the movie just speak English.

Superman TAS is a classic series, but I do appreciate My Adventures for how it brings Clark back into the mix, even more so than that classic series. And after 10 years of Snyder, yeah it was definitely needed

Idk advanced intelligence isn’t really a trait I attribute to Superman. When you think about him pairing up with Lois Lane or Batman, both of them would probably be smarter than him. Not to say he’s a dummy. Lex Luther or Brainiac as well are supposed to be way smarter than Clark Kent.

Ah yes, Red Son is definitely one of my favorite Superman comics. That of course is a completely unique take on the character. It’s one of the main reasons I only specified movies and tv shows. Opening it up to comics there’s too many elseworld type stories that have different origins

They’re definitely going for a softer Clark. But the voice actor is Jack Quaid. I don’t know if you’ve seen The Boys or Scream 6, but I think he’s pretty talented.

I mean I don't really like the idea that they're making Clark sound like a little girl it doesn't really match his physique more like a man at all I mean don't get me wrong I'm sure the voice actors pretty good and I have nothing against them but know that this full animation thing and the team in general I just think they're kind of woke if you ask me some of the dudes look a little too feminine but that's what I think but like I said nothing against him or the show
