I was one of the first people to play Paulo's level and start recommending it to people i can say the anti-softlock was worse... oh yeah and i got myself in a real softlock!
Dont usually follow carl, but Im assuming it refers to Check Point 1. Basically you can have multiple checkpoints in a level, but only one Checkpoint active at a time. So if you pick up a checkpoint A, then another checkpoint B, A is no longer picked up and you will respawn at B. In this case, the creator is forcing him to pick up A again, forcing him to replay the way from CP1 to the second checkpoint which is more advanced into the level.

I think that last level is a reference to the PSA released by one of Australia's State Governments about train safety. If you search dumb ways to die on RU-vid, it should be the top result.
I think you were supposed to get the star at 13:00 by standing on the donut block and jumping off it before you went down below the one-way. Then you would have to wait for the donut block to respawn, run in with the last second or so of invincibility trying to retain your fire flower trying to run through the saws, only to press down and go down that pipe, which you avoided the first time but went down the second time
The troll/daethroom at 14:30 could have been made MUCH worse by sequentially dropping a Fireflower in a way so you have to pick it up after every 3rd or 4th bullet so that if you don't get hit 3 times in a row you have to start all over again 😅

The twiceest of twices. They used the P switch I guess to block the cannon spawns. So going through without the P switch is the only way to get into the exit location. That if you ignore directions sends you through again. You could legit loop that twice twice for your whole life is you didn't figure it out or did so intentionally.
21:31 faster and more efficient anti softlock: go back and forth between the do uts until it runs out of star power and then drop down and take damage and jump back up until you die
