As someone as a Freshman in high school, I can confirm this to be true. You have the same rules as always, to be quiet and don't cooperate, but then tell you to grow up if you DARE speak a word in class while doing work or even trying to help others because they're independent. Yes, they are independent, but that doesn't mean you can't help them with one thing they may or may not need help with.

RAMBLE ALERT. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. I am a Middle School kid... and- while I’m just naturally sociable, I try my best to hide it. Just... I remember this one time when I started Middle School... when I wasn’t annoying anyone and managing to stick to myself. Yet someone decided I was still being annoying, despite how hard I was trying not to talk. I was trying to pick off a dried drip of paint on the wall while waiting in line, I was bored. I know it sounds weird, but... I mean- QwQ Then, a kid yelled at me to stop. I told them, “Why?” And they just said to stop again. I just moved to another part of the line, since we were waiting for the teacher to arrive. I found another one and picked at it, since I was bored. Then the kid came over, and started slamming their foot down onto my shoe. I looked back, but I knew my shoes were well tied, so I just turned my back. I told them, “I moved already...” but they didn’t reply and tried to take my shoe off. Soon, the teacher arrived. But later in the day, I found out the back padding on my shoe where the kid was slamming down had nearly been ripped off. She nearly destroyed a chunk of the padding on my shoe. And guess what? When I just barely Managed to confront her, she said that “Shoes are so weak anyways!” Even though, those shoes had been with me for a long good while. Let’s just say, almost all the padding fell off on one shoe, and it was annoying to walk with one shoe with padding, and the other not. So, I had to buy new shoes, thanks to that girl. ;-; I know it’s minor... but just- Sorry, I rambled there. ;-;
the last one is so dang true. I just started middle school last year,and I have to say, I used to be SO innocent. I would never swear, I wasn't dirty minded, until i started middle school!

As someone who went to a school where it was TK-8th and didn’t really notice the shift between Elementary and Middle school (other than the class period changes) I have to say, our school didn’t really have a social tier list. As a current middle schooler, I can say that this is true. Back in elementary school, some of the people started to swear in 5th grade and it switched to the majority of the people (including me) to swear. I know only one person who hasn't even cussed and he's so kind. Hope he doesn't start to change.
I used to be that kind person. I was doing great in elementary and I had slight anger issues so I never really got bullied unless someone was new but when I thought I was getting better at controlling it I went to middle school and everything changed. My grades got way worse. I lost all my old friends. And everything sets me off. It just makes me hate myself instead of doing anything
When I started 6th grade in 2019, all my friends (including me) still had the fun and enjoyable elementary school energy. I'm 13 now, about to go to 8th grade, yet I only remember boldly saying a cuss word, like 1 time, at home. I still have contact with an old friend, even after the lockdown started, and he's still very nice; he actually had his 13th birthday about 2 weeks ago. From what I remember, everyone else from the same elementary school as me hit the middle school growth spurt where they start to act like an emo kid. I hope when 8th grade begins that I don't fall victim to the change

Last quarter a failed math but this quarter I got an A and failed all my other classes but I’m in 7th grade so math is the only relevant class since I could get into Algebra 1 next year if I pass
Up here in maple syrup land, we have all 8 grades in elementary school. Plus the schools usually have kindergarten classrooms in them as well. So it’s more like 9 age groups.

When I was in 5th grade, I never heard anything bad or inappropriate, but when I got to 6th grade, all the kids started cursing and became addicted to inappropriate stuffs.

Where I live our middle school starts at 5th grade, so I started hearing all that in 5th grade. The kids I sat next to during PE would _constantly_ crack dirty jokes and cuss. I ended up sneaking away to go sit with my friend bc they made me so uncomfortable. I rarely do that type of stuff, so I only got caught once and all that happened was I got yelled at. Those kids really disturbed me
As a high school freshman, this is painfully relatable, and 8th grade was my worst year of middle school (especially because the stupid pandemic cancelled all the end of the year activities, and yes, it was the 2019 - 2020 school year)
My dude. I had my first indecent thought when I was in kindergarten and it very very slowly progressed from there. That was when 3rd grade started and I had a hot teacher, so I was staring, A LOT. Everything went downhill in 4th grade when I started using the internet. Can't remember if it was my friend who showed me that stuff or if I found that stuff.

Oh that part I can't relate to since all the children when I was in elementary school had no innocence that went away in 2nd or 3rd grade and when you were in 4th or 5th grade the last day of school they made you take care of kids in the lower grades and it was called field day when you compete with the other groups for beads for a bracelet and it was physical activities and I had a knee problem. 😐 But they gave you lunch and ice cream so that solves everything right? :D Some kids would get lost and I was that kid too... :( They expected you to be responsible, it was a big school with people with high grades I think.

I remember me teachers would begin making us write in cursive for some stuff because “we’d be writing in cursive all the time in high school” Cut to: we haven’t written in cursive at all yet (unless it’s a signature, but the teachers still don’t make you write those in cursive) I may still have to wait a couple more months/years before we start writing in cursive a lot more, but as of now we’ve barely ever written in cursive.
i’ve never changed too much either. i literally just don’t even try to make friends because nobody cares about my interests, which makes me go to the bottom of the popularity pyramid.
When I was starting Middle School, I thought all that changing stuff was BS, because I didn’t care about looks or popularity or all that stuff, but now, I actually find myself caring about that stuff. I think for the first time in a million years I’ve actually cared about what my hair looks like, or what clothes i wear
I was like 11 years old when I started middle school and I can safely say….*yeah all this is true.* Seriously I don’t think I ever felt so much pressure hit me in the face at once. Especially considering how little freedom we had in there, heck even in HIGH SCHOOL we have more freedom.
The worst part is the students. I had a good friend one day, but she turned on me the next. Last year was our last good year, a year where we could talk, actually talk. Not just us asking each other about projects.

So, after 5th grade ended and the graduation, in around maybe August the innapropriate stuff actually began. The 18+ things. So when I got to 6th grade, it completely overwhelmed me, and almost all of my friends changes their personalities (like how it says in the video) and turn fake. Im an “innocent” person. I dont want to learn things when im pretty much not supposed to, because like i was 11, and everyone else was all over the “sus” topics. They learnt it, I didnt. I wore headphones a lot in 6th grade so I didnt have to hear them in lunch, since they are the most “sus” there. But oh man, 7th grade. Im in 7th grade right now when I write this, and i just recently turned 13. Oh and before you say, no. I dont swear either. I just dont like it. Well, im fine other people saying it, but if its towards someone, i hate it. It also makes you sound kind of goofy imo. Anyways, almost the whole school turned “sus”. Even a teacher. Like no joke. Anyways, I started getting “popular” (i guess) because people started noticing i was an innocent person. A lot asked me why i wasnt like them, and why i wasnt on the toxic side and swearing and staying up until like 1:00 am, i just say i dont. I get bullied because of it. People even try to tell me sus things without warning. I got tricked so many times over sus things, like shaking salt in your mouth. I still dont know what it really means but i dont need to learn it. I just dont feel comfortable learning things that i should learn when im probably at LEAST 17 years old. I feel like thats the age where normally people could learn. I lost a lot of friends because of this when i told a lot of people that, and i went from probably 12 friends, to 5 or 6. And most of them are probably fake. I only really have 3 real friends. *Ok if youre still reading i want to say thank you but you might be like 3 quarters done.* Im getting really worried people will soon force me to learn these. And also, I dont use social media. Well, I only use RU-vid. I feel like social medias are kind of real drama and controversial arguments and just idk. Like Twitter for example. You might not believe me but it is true. I dont even have TikTok or i barely even watch RU-vid Shorts. Maybe sometimes throughout a week, but like for 10 minutes, because oh my god when i was watching it everyday, i came across a (maybe) scam/virus video that was talking about 18+ stuff and to click a link. It kinda traumatized me. So now i dont use ‘shorts much anymore. I really hope im able to “survive” this stuff. I hate my school. The people, not the subjects. Its really hard to focus and get through the day when someone says a lot of innapropriate jokes or racist jokes. I have a messed up school. I think im typing too much at this point, but i just wanna say thank you if you read the whole thing.

6th and 7th grade were very rough for me. I was only a much better student in 8th grade. Since I will be a high school junior in August, I can say that middle school is very rough when you first go there, but it eases out when you get closer to high school.

Im an 8th grader and school isnt that bad for me. I have plenty of friends, work is easy, and I’d say life is great. The one thing I hate, and the one thing that makes me not want to go, is the damn kids. Most of them are such attention seeking assholes. A lot of the kids don’t care about anything except short term personal gain. I see this in every grade. I feel like I was one of the lucky few to have my kind of “depressed” phase where I stopped being a kid and had to earn my happiness. I was like that all the way through 6th and especially 7th. Now, I’ve finally found myself again and say I’ve sure as hell grown as a person. Not perfect, but a whole lot better. Unfortunately, it’s pretty easy to tell that a lot of other kids definitely haven’t become “aware” that life isn’t just fun and games. Life is so nice after going to through some terrible shit, as you realize how good you had it before, so know, if don’t feel well, it’s nice to reassure myself that everything will be fine, and that pain is a part of life. Those damn middles schoolers though. Absolutely ZERO regard for anyone but themselves. It doesn’t matter if they hurt someone, all they care about is personal gain. It’s like how I passed by a pale white sixth grader, and the Mf casually says the n-word and EVERYONE LAUGHS. If you said that in high school, you’d get molywhopped so hard you’d fall to the floor like a cartoon character. It’s just so annoying to see how these kids have so much ego yet they seem to not care what they’re doing, and I always feel bad for the teachers having to deal with all of them. I remember Elementary School. Being in High School now, Middle School was kind of a nightmare for me as I moved from Arizona to Kansas just before 5th grade. Most people don't understand autism where I live now.

I was never sheltered , parents never lied ,told me about sex at ..6? 7? I understood it at around 8 Im told about bills ,money,and other things someone at my age probably shouldn't know ,iv know about a lot of things like death and sickness and how it works because it's around me , my mom has a skull closet and a lot of other things like that , my entire family really enjoys horror and movie ratings never really existed in our house because you and my parents have raised me though it's made my child hood not like others I can have full-blown conversations for hours with my parents at midnight about the world ,money my future ect .I'm usually very aware of my surroundings and people's intentions good or bad I was never that child that you had to tell not to do something twice ,I learn and pick up on things quick
Middle schooler here, most kids suck and aren’t aware of anything they say and they are complete idiots. They act like they know politics even though we really don’t we are just biased from our parents/family members, people act like they know things but they really really don’t. One tip to survive is DONT I MEAN DONT GO INTO THE BATHROOMS. Only horror awaits there, you are either going to get poop on the toilet seat or there’s going to be weed or some shit. Really honestly sucks.
I’m a middle schooler rn, and the thing about people changing is so true. I lost my friends because they have a different style now. They don’t hang out with me anymore because they hangout with the popular kids. But it’s aight, I enjoy the loner life 👍🏻 Edit: In High school now, life is better. I went through my dark phase a little before middle school so when I got there I just felt a bit uncomfortable when everyone was making inappropriate jokes. It made me feel like I was acting better than them because I wasn't laughing at their jokes and I knew there was a fine line between role model and self centered. Since their jokes were so bad and they were saying them so often, I never really wanted to react to them with a laugh. So I decided I would close my eyes for like 2 seconds and breathe in. It satisfied a lot of them. If I could go back in time I would just ignore their jokes and hopefully they'd get the right idea. Additionally, I know you were running out of time, but you forgot to mention the imaginary audience (the feeling like people are always looking at you) and just depression in general. If any people younger than the age of 13 are reading this, first of all, good job of having an attention span longer than a very large spaghetti noodle, and second of all, enjoy it while you can.

Especially 8th grade. 6th was good for me, 7th was eh, 8th was awful. In 8th grade most teachers will give you the same amount of homework you’ll have in high school PLUS you have the awkwardness of middle school. 8th grade is basically just a shitty version of high school tbh. Mine was probably worse than most people’s because I have a lot of medical issues but yeah honestly 8th grade and 11th grade are 100% the worst years you’ll have to go through, good luck.
Exactly. "Just wait 'till high school" is one of the biggest lies I've ever been told. Back in middle school, I was a sucker. I prioritized my work more, even to the point of stress. I was afraid of joining the crowd of "bad kids" who didn't care about school. The learning sites they gave were plain shit. It was just a horrible experience for me, and one I would sooner forget. As soon as I reached high school, I realized how much more freedom there is. Despite similar work load, there was far less stress. I started to hold myself above my work, since I've decided my mental health is more important than any project or assignment they give (I would still try to do it of course). High school has its shitty moments, but I'd take it over middle school any day.

I’m a middle schooler, and all I have to say is that middle school is most definitely filled with Drama, hate, bad laughter, pressure and sadness. I’m just glad I’m the “Athletic” kid, so more than likely I won’t be bullied that much, definitely not physically.😢👍
How to survive Middle School: 1. Keep your friend group small 2. Study as much as possible but know your limit 3. Exercise as much possible or at least get fresh air so you won't feel trapped 4. If you have any problems then try your best to either talk it out to a trusted friend or parent.
Oh and if you're teachers are crap just remember that it won't matter once you get to highschool. OMG MY TEACHERS SUCKED. One even made memes and bitmojis of killing her students... now that I think about it I should've told the principal about her

I’m still in middle school, and this is true. I feel like if I still had my elementary school friends they’d be really different. I was probably innocent until this year, the 7th grade, I started getting in the meme culture and I kinda lost a bit of who I am. I used to be innocent, happy, sensitive.. Now I’m someone who is unenthusiastic, but won’t act like it and someone who will yell at you if offended. I try not to be mean unless someone honestly makes me mad, but it’s sort of hard to do that. And when I entered into the 5th grade (for me, it’s counts as elementary), I saw what I’d be happily dealing with for the couple of years I will be staying at my school. Looking up to the kind eighth graders that probably like the students that act like teachers, parental students who make you happy, or starting to get less mentally okay. It really isn’t fun and the homework thing is so true. I have less free time and every time I screw up I keep burying myself in a hole it takes forever to dig out of.. which is why I’m looking forward for Summer Break.
