THIS WEEK I AM ON AN UPSTAIRS LITEL REPLACEMENT.WE HAVE A PROPER TUBULAR SCAFFOLD UP AND I TRY MY IDEA FOR PROPPING THE BRICKWORK. THERE IS A PORCH BELOW SO NOTHING CAN TOUCH THE FLOOR BELOW SO I GRIND OUT A COUPLE OF BEDS BELOW THE WINDOWS TO SLOT THE BOTTOM OF THE ACROW INTO WHICJ WORKED A TREAT.
I PUT IN A NEW CAVITY TRAY , A GALVANISED ANGLE IRON LINTEL AND SOME WEEP VENTS.

Love watching, and doing these kind of jobs, lads......in fact I probably get more pleasure in the finished product of a repair job like this than I do from new build stuff. But that's probably just me being a saddo! 😂 Brilliant tip on using the acrow and upside down strongboy as a mid wall support.....genius!

Not bored of lintel jobs at all. Bread and butter work for the self employed. Just out of interest, if you had built that house would you have stack bonded between the windows or alternated whole brick and two halves?

Just been told i need lintels replaced on half my windows. Not visibly sagging. Any idea how long I can wait before it becomes a major issue? Also, does this work do any damage to the house internally?
@SteveAndAlexBuild
@SteveAndAlexBuild 3 года назад
When lintels go they generally rust and expand in turn lifting the brickwork above . Generally you only get sagging If there is no lintel at all . Once the brickwork has stated to lift them water can get in which will speed up the rusting . You could probably leave them long enough to save up for the work . It’s very rare that you get any more than a bit of dust inside 🧱👍🏽
@Caroline-qe7dz
@Caroline-qe7dz 3 года назад
@@SteveAndAlexBuild thanks thats really helpful. The way he told us was as if they would all fall down, but looking at them they all look fine, theres one small window where 2 bricks look a bit like the cement has come away a bit. I think you are right though just to save up and get it done. 👍🏻

@SteveAndAlexBuild
@SteveAndAlexBuild 4 года назад
Wael EL Shennawy Thanks . I did explain in the video that the new tray tucks under the old then I showed it sealed . I used silicone as it sticks well and is flexible 🧱👍🏽
@shenawix
@shenawix 4 года назад
Bricklaying With Steve and Alex Thanks Steve for your explanation however this won’t work as the seal won’t bond and there is no way to have a weld to seal the lip overlapping. The old lip is worn and the new is soft and won’t hold itself upright by the seal for long eventually it will drop under its own weight and the cavity tray won’t fit for purpose and lose its functionality. The tray to work as you know is installed from one piece not sealed between higher course of blocks inside to lower course of bricks outside so the water drops towards the vents and to outside. I understand why you don’t use Cavity E type as I myself won’t accept them as a solution as the gap between them MUST be filled /sealed and it is impossible. What I suggest is a thin tin galvanised strip , very thin and it is formed the sharpe of Cavity E types, but ONE PIECE so there are no connections and install it under the 20mm lip from the old tray. What do you think ?!

It's going to piss in, from top of cavity tray, to inside of brick. He didn't compo the long joint in. Also don't throw old lintle down and flatten flower bed. And take a rubble bag up scaffold with you, saves getting scaffold boards filthy and having to clear ness up!
