AWS WordPress Install Elastic IP Custom Domain (Video #2)

Using an AWS Elastic IP Address you can point any custom domain name, registered through any domain provider, to your WordPress EC2 Instance running WordPress.
This is the second video in my series that will show you how to install WordPress in Amazon Web Services (AWS). The first video walked you through the setup of an EC2 Instance and configuring a WordPress Blog.
This video will walk you through the steps of establishing an Elastic IP Address for your WordPress Blog, associating that IP Address to your EC2 Instance, and updating your DNS settings (in GoDaddy) so you can access your new Blog with an existing or custom domain name.

Thank Craig. These 2 videos were very helpful. The only issue that I have is the security of the site related to HTTPS. I think I need to figure out how to get certificates installed. When I go to the WP admin console the browser says it is an unsecure connection. Maybe a topic for video #3.

I haven't played around with HTTPS, but based upon some things I've read and heard it seems to be causing some headaches. Good topic for another video. I'll have to play around with that Jay.

Right. I stuggled with it a bit and got it working using a free cert from Let's Encrypt. There's a help article on AWS and Bitnami's site that talks about that solution.

Hi Craig, many webmasters are very eager to join AWS hosting as Nasa and SpaceX website are using AWS and that has been a very hot topic in the industry. I recently replaced MAX CDN with AWS Cloudfront for which I was paying $200 an year for 2 sites and now for 4 sites I paid less than $2 for same sites and even added 2 more. Still the support ream of AWS isn't that active as Godaddy and Hostgator, else with services offered by AWS, they are miles ahead of them. You should also add a feature of Cloudfront and especially SSL certificate which comes with Cloudfront, that is really a hot topic.

I have implemented IP Public pointers into the domain and have been able to access the website but when I accessed another article, the web browser appeared in IP Public. Why?? Thanks you !

Hi guys, I created EC2 instance with public ip. 1- set ssh and ssl 2- set dns with public ip and domain -If I assign ip elastic to the instance, do I have to change to the public ip dns with ip elastic in Route 53? - should i reconfigure ssl and ssh?

I was able to access my WP site from the IP address, then when I switched over to an elastic IP I now have no access to it. And I have already associated that Elastic IP Address to my EC2 Instance.

There is Gabriel. I haven't used an FTP client to do this, but I know it can be done, and I've seen videos that describe this here on RU-vid.

Is bitnami worpress instance an EC2 instance ? I have a WP instance and EC2 iw nstance. I associated an elastic IP to a Wordpress. If wordpress is not an EC2 instance will I get charged ? Now when I assigned the elastic IP to the WP instance, I can't get access to the WP site from my browser. What am I doing wrong ?

An EC2 Instance is a virtual server you create, and once you do that you'll start getting charged. The EC2 Instance doesn't really do you much good unless you have something running on that virtual server. That's where Bitnami WordPress comes into play. You are installing a WordPress image on your virtual server (your EC2 Instance).

Added the elastic IP and associated it to my instance, all security groups are also correct. I am still not able to open up the page on the new elastic IP address. What are the steps to troubleshoot this?

Are you trying to access the site via the new Elastic IP Address or a domain name? If it's not working via the IP Address, you may have missed a step. I would disassociate the IP that you assigned to your EC2 Instance, create a new Elastic IP, and finally associate that to your EC2 Instance.

When associating the new elastic IP to the instance, make sure you tick the box "associate even if already" that happened to me and that fixed it.

I was able to access my WP site from the IP address, then when I switched over to an elastic IP I now have no access to it. Also when I put my elastic ip into the browser it switches back to the old IP. I am pretty lost now.

Hey Michael - Did you associate that Elastic IP Address to your EC2 Instance? The Elastic IP itself doesn't do much for you if you don't associate it to the EC2 Instance you are running.

Oh wow thanks for the fast reply. I ended up redoing everything and starting over. Yes my elastic IP is associated with my VPS and my WP site is accessible when i use the IP address. My new problem though is when trying to access the site with my domain name. I just purchased a domain on go daddy and did exactly as you instructed. When I try to access the the site though my domain name I run into "server DNS address could not be found". It is so frustrating!!

Buy your domain names from AWS Route53 in future. Then everything just works :-)

was able to resolve the Domain Name to the static ip. But now I enter the domain name in the Browser URL: Hopland.com and I get the static ip once page 35.153.59.125.xip.io/wp-signup.php?new=hopland.com ( I have people to signup) But now I must only enter static ip with the /admin to login Any insights
