Unlike human babies, baby swans (Signets) are quite hardy and can run and swim within just a few hours of hatching. Parent swan was very protective over them during the early months of their life and although not captured in the video, the other parent (presumably father swan) was fighting other birds in the water to keep them away from the family!
It was so cute and made people keep saying awww and get emotional at the same time! Such a special wildlife experience to catch in the middle of London.
It was so special to capture and learned something new thanks to this as well. The first swim for cygnets is usually on their second day. The family takes this all-important swim, which typically occurs from late morning to early afternoon. One of the parents will get into the water first and then beckon the cygnets to follow. It’s a supervised test run, allowing the cygnets to experience the water and develop their swimming skills.
Isn’t it fascinating how these graceful creatures start their aquatic adventures so early in life?
