Really interesting how you point out so many things to be aware of for safety. It would be good to take out drone sound. Thank you for the safety information! God bless.

One trick I figured out is to undercut in a really angeled way upwards, then a flat parralel chop to take of chip. This way, the downwards swing wont hit deflect into foot.

Just read a gruesome axe story of a dude accidentally hitting his foot. Gosh I need to take safety SERIOUS and preach it beyond belief..

When you say kiss it, do you use your tongue? And has a tree ever kissed you back?

Thumbs up on everything except, one question: If the tree wasn't already a good candidate to chop down, didn't you just *make* it one by whacking so much bark off?
@SurvivalSchoolHouse
@SurvivalSchoolHouse 11 месяцев назад
Sorry, I didn’t explain that sequence clearly, cut a small slit to the cambium on a candidate tree, determine if dead; from there ring the tree of bark for potential hazards, same principles apply for big chainsaw tree work.

Trust me, an axe in swing will cut through your foot. If its barely swung, it might just give a deep cut

I agree, I've seen a few cuts in feet and legs with other instructors as well as cutting myself in the shin

That's the conundrum, I can show the absolute primitive means like my natural cordage bow drill videos but most don't watch it...

What do we do if we cut the bark off and the tree is alive still
@SurvivalSchoolHouse
@SurvivalSchoolHouse 2 года назад
Just cut as small of a piece as you can and the tree will be just fine.

Quick question. Can I use a Pulaski? My job doesn't use regular axes, only pulaskis. (wildland fire hand tool)
@SurvivalSchoolHouse
@SurvivalSchoolHouse Год назад
Yes a Pulaski would work fine, it is just heavier to swing as you know and usually dull after cutting roots...

@@SurvivalSchoolHouse yeah. Common problem I have since I have to sharpen it every day. Thanks for the tip.

Pls tell me this hole vidoe was a joke?.....because if you chop the Cambuim layer and bar off a tree the way you did to check to see I the tree is dead...you have gurddled and killed the tree anyway....at that point even if u find out the tree is alive you may as well chop it down anyway cuze you just killed it
@SurvivalSchoolHouse
@SurvivalSchoolHouse 2 года назад
We made sure the tree was dead before ringing the bark, check the smallest area possible first to ensure the tree is dead.

@@SurvivalSchoolHouse Probably should have told that to the viewers too. Who knows if there are some people killing trees to check if they are alive. 😄😄
