Damn this video helped out a lot. I stopped playing for a couple seasons and when I came back I was kinda shocked how bad I was. Especially with precision weapons. Didn't realize my setting were set to default, I always played on lower sensitivities on all the halos. After messing around in training mode I feel like I got it back! Thanks my dude!!

Thank you dude! This was the best video on these setting I have watched yet. I am brand new to Halo after 10 years of playing call of duty, and it's been a real challenge to get the aiming to just feel comfortable. It never felt natural yet. Now I can focus on the other aspects of halo and forget about working on trying to dial in the aim settings! Awesome

@@CrazyMiller brand new to your channel , maybe you've already covered this but it would be super helpful to have a video that covered the fundamentals of halo. I'll stay tuned to see. There are going to be so many ppl trying out the free Halo multiplayer this year and it might help the channel blow up! Between this aiming video and a video explaining things like thrusters, grapple, the weapons on the walls, the game modes. It might sound weird for some of your viewers that I don't know any of this stuff, but for real someone coming from playstation/cod everything is soooo foreign in Halo. Shields, time to kill. Thanks for this video tho, great stuff

Super helpful video here man! As a Destiny player coming back into Halo the complications in the settings are beautiful and a curse. I wish we had .5s on some of the settings that we don't. But this really helped me set up my sticks!

It's critical to understand that the button layouts effect the vehicle controls as well before you even dive into this. I didn't even know that and my mind was boggled everytime I tried to do anything in the controls settings tab. lol.

Just thought I'd mention axial deadzone is your analogs deadzone on a straight line vertically or horizontally. Its a deadzone designed to keep your stick moving in straight lines for things like nade line ups for power weapon launches and also because its a default setting in most games. Centre deadzone is the only setting that controls drift.

They both control drift. Says as much in the description. Axial just gives you a square shaped deadzone, whereas center gives you are circular shaped deadzone. But regardless of the shape, increasing the size of the deadzone will prevent drift.

Look Acceleration adjusts the time it takes to hit max look speed when you peg (apply 100% input in any direction) the look stick. The higher the setting, the quicker you will reach top speed, and the lower the setting, the longer it takes to reach top speed

Max input threshold is better described as the an outer ring dead zone on the edges of the circle around your stick. It registers as 100% to the left or 100% in any direction BEFORE it’s actually pulled to 100% in a direction, when you turn the Max input threshold up from 0. So at 15, it’s not speeding up your acceleration per se. Its making the game think you pulled the stick all the way to the edge before it actually hit the edge. This gives you less room to get fine control over your aim on your right stick. It’s good to turn up for movement but usually quite bad to turn up on look settings.

Center treats your deadzone as a circle. So if you like circular movements like moving diagonally and such use center. Axial is more so x & y axis movements. I use center deadzone now because it feels smoother for me

Dude the Look max input threshold is just something I absolutely can’t make up my mind on. 0-15, there’s just no spot that feels the best. Also aim acceleration I can’t pick either. Sometimes I feel like they gave us too many settings lol, I miss the simplicity of say like halo 3 settings way back.

Yeah I struggled too. My default controller felt good on 15 threshold on 4.5,4.5 aim. But my elite series 2 feels good on 0 threshold with 6,6 aim. I’ve always kept my acceleration on 5.

Does having the center deadzone at 0 not cause drift? I know you said that the axial deadzone setting is what can cause drift if it's too low. But from your exaplanation of center deadzone it sounds like that would be a culprit as well? Great video, still a little unclear on the difference between axial deadzone/center deadzone.

Your center deadzone shouldn’t cause drift unless it’s super worn and it naturally falls away from center. Which it shouldn’t. Test bringing your axial deadzone up a bit and see if you are drifting with center at 0. My controller is pretty new so I don’t have drift with 0 center deadzone.

A lot of people think the deadzones all at 0 would be the most responsive the controller could be. However, the most responsive it could be would be center 0, max input threshold 15, axial deadzone 0. I think this is where the most confusion is occurring in the settings so far because so many people make videos saying the max input threshold at 0 is more responsive, but it’s when it’s at 15 that it is. Funny that center and axial behave that way, but not the max input threshold.

Yeah when I talked about movement for max threshold I kind went over that. I prefer it a bit slower for aim though so that’s why I go 0 on look

It's actually not more responsive with max input threshold at 15, you basically just make your analog stick range smaller. You can basically reach 100% activation at something like halfway towards the edge. It *feels* more responsive for movement for instance, but it can also make you jerk away from your target fairly easily if you use such a high setting for your look thumbstick. But in terms of quickly responding a.k.a. when it registers your movement: that's your deadzones, not the input threshold. Think of Max Input Threshold as ''standard triggerstops for your analog sticks''. Because that's what it is. With 15 being the most extreme ''triggerstop'' option you can choose.

@@KindOldRaven great break down man what are you playing at because man when I touch the look threshold it just feels terrible aiming and only gets worse in up close gunfights and jerky plus it’s not even instant at 15 there’s still some play which defeats the purpose and causes jerky aiming still even at 15 look and 5 aim accel

Acceleration just increases the speed of your thumbstick. Its another form of sensitivity really just to make the reticle move quicker. Sometimes can be difficult to find the balance between acceleration and sensitivity.

i get center deadzone, but what's the difference with axial deadzone?? should they be the same value??

Axial deadzone I guess is like a linear deadzone. Put center at 0 and axial at 15 then try to move around. It doesn’t feel super consistent at all. So if you move center up and put axial at 0 the deadzone is now round and from center. So it feels way better.

FYI: The Axial deadzone also controls diagonal movement. Basically, draw a little square in the center of your thumb stick and then draw a cross from the corners of the square to the outer edges of the thumb stick. As you change the deadzone that square and the cross shrink or grow. ANY diagonal movement within that cross is not registered. Only up - down/left - right movement is registered. The square itself is also a deadzone. It is recommended to set the center deadzone to zero and only play with the axial. Classic Halo was like this to make tracking and strafing easier. Keep that in mind.

What are the downsides of having your deadzones higher than when you notice the drift stop? Say it stops drifting at 3 but you have it set to default

No guys. Axial deadzone is basically how responsive is it to squiggle and wiggle the input on thumbstick while in any direction (being pressed). If your thumbstick is neutral, axial deadzone doesn't apply. That is CENTER deadzone which everyone already knows. Don't believe me? Go to training and set your movement thumbstick axial to zero (very responsive). It is very responsive to move around and slither like a snake. Do it for a minute and get a feel for it. Now, switch the movement axial deadzone to 15 (less responsive) and move around just like you did. You will feel just the slightest delay compared to zero because the x- and y- axes have a larger deadzone. Keep in mind, it's not always better to have it at zero because it's easier to throw yourself off track just like if you have very high aim accel and sensitivity.

After you set your axial to drifting that occurs when the controller isn’t moving. How do you counteract drifting that occurs when you make small move and look movements and the controllers doesn’t full come back to center. Would that more center deadzones?
