Just bought it, i have some questions 1. What is the top speed of this truck? 2 is there any problems to use it on sand ? 3 how long does his battery last? 4 wen i am going to build it, do i follow the manual completly or do you have any tips to get a good result?

Just FYI, you can remove the chrome from plastic parts with Super Clean in about 20 minutes. Automotive section of Walmart. Thanks for the review!

Nice overview. Exocaged RC just proved yesterday that 3 different 550 Motors fit. Also, the Chassis IS split like an Ascender - but it's NOT Ascender!!! Much more up suspension travel, like a VS4-10. Other than those, very good assessment!! Especially with the Manual errors. That was a good heads up!!

I see most of the trx4 line of rigs as Scale Trail running rigs. Like 80% Scale Trail, and 20% rock crawler. I see the SCX10.2 as a 80% Rock Crawler and 20% Scale Trail. This is just my one option in millions! I like running a lightweight rig on the rocks. Take an 80 ton Army Tank and push it up a 70° incline! Now take a feather and push it up that same 70° incline. Now add 3S to the feather!!! Do you get where I am going with this?

Thanks brother! We are running the Trx4 vs scx10iii in 2 hours when my buddies off work. He’s running the blazer and I’ll be running stick Trx4 tires to even the odds. Yes the stock tires are ugly looking and too hard

Hey boss! Tires are the rc4wd 1.9 Goodyear wranglers MTR 4.75 and the wheels are the vanquish 1.9 Method 101s with .350 hubs for a bit of poke but still tuck. Cheers!

Hard choice! Both great rigs but the Trx4 wins most comparison videos off stock Suggested set up from the manual in crawling. But the axial looks better. More scale diffs more scale body. Interior too so yes hard choice! If you want more looks axial if you want better crawling go with Trx4. Make sure you get Trx4 with 2 speed and locking diffs if you go that way as the sport isn’t as capable with always locked diffs. Sometimes it’s really nice to be able to unlock that rear axle so it doesn’t try to dig a Tire underneath and flip you over

Very good explanation of build process and walkthrough of the manual... Thanks for your efforts. There was no noticeable clicking under load at slow speed as many are complaining of, I'm guessing a competent careful build alleviates this..? Are you aware of this or have thoughts? The clicking under load is bc of the 2 gears on the shaft in the transmission are not installed properly. If you look close at the notches in the gear for the pin you will see one side is square and the other is round. when the gears are installed wrong it makes that noise. RU-vid channel, Kisun's rc life shows the fix.

@@kg5nja693 Yes, was aware of the clicking under load on my III; and, flipped both gears accordingly. However, absolutely no improvement in the level of the clicking sound was noted upon testing. Will test with shiming next.

Now I'm stumped between the TRX-4 or the SCX10.2. I like the idea of the 10.2 since things will probably break over time meaning I will have to modify it, but the scale realism of the TRX-4 looks so fun too

Please help ** My build has a unreasonable amount of backlash between the axles to the driveshafts. Stock drivetrain except front ring and pinion overdrive gears. I had problems in the discrepancies of the manual as well... As well as a few not mentioned, but could be due to bolting aftermarket to oem parts. **I had to shave down the steering servo mount to get the clearance for the horn to turn left and swing under the chassis brace and frame. (Spektrum S6230) The front shock mounts to the being off really turned out to be a evenings time of work to figure out what was wrong.. Plus I used aftermarket mounts that made it even more confusing..

Nice video, did you have issues with the diffs? Mine are built correctly but they skip under load. Tried shims and everything I can think about.

No actually didn’t notice any skipping but really don’t drive it much. We are still loving the 10.2s too much and waiting on some upgrades to hit the market and so a rebuild on it. Check you pinion bearings make sure they are correct size I know there’s some in the kit that are close in size but I am only taking a shot in the dark at it. Cheers mate! I wonder how long before horizon hobby discontinues the Deuce. I noticed the Jeep 2000 xj kit has been discontinued, and I am thinking the red Rubicon rtr has also been discontinued.

It won’t be long I think. I think the 10.3 is horizons new flagship crawler that they wanted to get to us so they can do exactly that. There’s a non portal version coming soon and after building this kit I can say it feels like a horizon product and no longer an axial product. Just the name carried over. But it’s a great unit with 90% new parts over avails scx10... once you figure out all the mistakes in the manual that is. Another thing is watch the gears in trans. Round notch goes to pin

I really want one of these, I have SCX10 1.9 and 2.2, Bomber, SCX10 ii, and other RCs for bashing, racing, flying, etc... I really like what they did with this chassis and body... A bunch of other videos had a wierd noise from the drivetrain, kinda like a clicking... did you notice this with yours, couldn't hear the truck much in the driving section of your video...

About the 2spd, I am not looking for high speed basher type speed, or launches.... I am going to hope to gear for "enough" wheel speed, with a touch extra...lol. That would be for high gear..., and then hope that the "low range" gives just enough of a lower gear to help for real technical sections... Are you sure its a Vaterra Ascender frame, or does it just slide together and apart, like an Ascender, to be able to easily swap links for different wheelbase options? I'm thinking if the 2spd doesn't pan put, save the servo for a backup dig servo, or for build number two...lol Thanks for the video, and the good look at what you spotted in the manual as possible trouble spots...

Grab one! You won’t regret it! We did Not have the click in ours that is plaguing many of the builds out there. We had seen a few of the sponsored guys builds on RU-vid upon release and noticed that click so we were super Thorough when building our kit and didn’t over tighten any hardware and it seems to be the solution.

That’s a great way to look at the 2 speed trans as technical and not for bashing! And yes I had some bad info from a sponsored RU-vid the frame is not re used from vaterra it’s got a few holes that are different but same shape size and bends. Just drilled Differently to fit this truck so it’s a bit of a gray area if it is a reused part or if it’s an old part that is being used differently. Lol. Either way it’s the axial we’ve all been waiting for

Best review bar none so bra vo,if you ask me the level we are at they have failed in my book.Thats alot of mistakes in build manual which is the most important and i feel in my heart the 2 had less mistakes which turned out ground breaking.They were more copy cats and little design went into this model,they could have done way better,this feels like a very rushed rig to me.

Agreed! It didn’t have that same “axial quality” and enjoyment to the kit as the 10.2. No extra stuff like guns and such they’ve always included in the kits. Just felt rushed to us. Great kit once ya figure it out but as an axial guy since they opened their doors I can say it don’t feel the same nope.

do you know if you can use a engine sound box on this jeep? i had the scx 2 and took my sound box out of that and tried to put it in my new scx10 3 jeep and it doesnt seem to have a spot on the reciever for it to work, this sure does take away 50% of the fun, dont understand why this company wouldnt havr thought about this, its crazy.

Yes rather odd move to not include an open channel for that. The scx24 even has an open port for channel 2 that you can add a sound unit too

Yes I had one gear with square side to round pin.. pulled it all apart and flipped it over lol. Also had a rear portal gear chip on me first run but I cleaned that out. I switched out the tires to a 4.19 and it handles so much better. The tall tires aren’t needed with the portals. Check out today’s vid on the small tires

Don't get me wrong, I do want one, BUT... The C-Hubs and inside portal case being molded to the end of axle tubes is my biggest concern. Snap one of those C-hubs and you'll be having to replace the whole axle. Maybe I'm too used to the TRX-4's axles.

I was hoping for a different design too. The portal box being attached worried me on the Capra so We avoided it due to that. But I have many of friends in the hobby that have backed in buying them because the axle design.

Great info! Thank you. I'll be buying a couple of these kits, one for me, and one for my adult son. We won't be using the Jeep JL body. My son owns a full size JKU and I'll be putting an old 1990's Cherokee body on mine. Did I understand you correctly that the chassis is adjustable in length? I'm not concerned with control arm length, but chassis length adjustability. We can always extend or shorten the chassis in the shop but knowing if it's adjustable would be nice. Thanks again for a great vid.

For your first I’d go with the 10.2 as it’s a solid rig. If you can get a kit and build it so you fully understand it and the kits have better parts in the kits.

They've had long term Licensing with Jeep, so don't hold your breath! 😜 Yes there's the occasional Ford and Chevy... But they charge SO much more for them, due to. Single Vehicle licensing.

Yeah I know. I've had all of their Jeep's on their SCX10 and SCX10 II chassis lol. Maybe Proline will put out an 80s or 90s Nissan body in the future

Thank you for the review, very well explained. In another scx10iii review, the 2 speed seemed to be just fine, didn't seem to be as close in speed.. Maybe the motor they had could top-out faster? I definitely would want a clear distinction between the two gears.

First off thank you! Yes maybe it’s the motor choice but I also agree a clear distinction between gears like the Trx4 has. You know it’s in high gear. I jumped the truck at the end of video and that was topped out. A Trx4 would’ve got 3 feet of air in high gear lol.

I seen the Exocaged review the 2 speeds were very close as well. Hard to tell even what gear you were in even. Maybe an updated gear set to follow?

Guess it doesn't matter for me, I just inherited an scx10ii, so I'll be upgrading and modding it to the max. But again thank you, my buddy is planning on buying an scx10iii and we will want to find out about the transmission issue first. Also, I'm curious as to whether or not it is similar to the previous 2 speed. How modifiable is this 2 speed? What gears can be changed?

Tamiya British racing green with a matt clear coat on top

Eric Hiles really!?! Mine came with an extra panhard frame mount lol. They must be off on their counts lol. My buddy’s came with 2 LR shock towers and another no links no shocks. We are lucky lol.

@@ProNoobRC the extra panhard mount is for the std axle conversion. So is the extra gear. Since you need different gear ratio when removing the portals.

@@ProNoobRC Actually we built multiples by multiple people. Unfortunately many of these typos got through after the were supposed to be changed. I'm not sure how but it happened. My bad...but please note, we do build them and have others. Could be we are so close to it, you miss some. We've updated the manual and posted it to the Axial racing website and I"ll finish watching your vid to see if there were any others we missed from your notes.

We only had a Traxxas for measuring up and it appeared to be 5mm too long. What brand are you running? I’d like to ditch the brushless it doesn’t have a great feel to what I am use to.

Still a great product but for us experienced guys it missed the mark for sure. Our UMG10 can out crawl it with out portals lol. It may get harvested to put the portals on the UMG 10

Tamiya racing green backed in black and tree line Graphics cut on our Explore Air 2 from Cricut. Then out outside it was sprayed with Matte clear and Matte black I then re-sprayed all the black plastics matte black again just to knock the shine off of them. I applied the Stickers and then brushed flat clear over top of them to again knock off the shine

Never said anything was bad about it just helping with some mistakes on assembly in manual and our thoughts. We have 3 now and enjoy them. And the look can’t be beat.

That's exactly why I will never buy Traxxas. Going on 40 years now, I'm 60. Traxxas and there non stop control game on the hobby. Well there starting to lose it now. I'm glad I lived long enough to see it. F-U Traxxas.
