Just got my axolotl yesterday I named him Shadow. I haven’t stopped watching your videos, very reliable, educational, and fun to watch. Not to mention the tongue twisters are funny. Thank you for your knowledge!
Don’t need to do too much research tbh. Get some good test strips and water conditioner without aloe in it. Keep the water at 64-68 or so degrees and feed them brine shrimp or blood worms (frozen thawed) I have a bunch of live plants and shrimp, sucker bottom feeders, white cloud minnows and bunch of snails. I rinsed off and threw a bunch of live black worms in also, and a cheap filter. Can start in a 10-20 gallon for the first year or so! I got two a few weeks ago and did tons of research but they are very easy to keep happy so far. I’ve had frogs newts croc skinks and snakes and lizards forever so some experience but never had fish
@@FrankiesUploads Right now he's waiting at the thermometer because he thinks it the turkey baster full of blood worms (he's two months old)... so much more character than I would have thought.. already comes to the front to "ask me for worms"!
Thank you so much for this info!! I've been watching these videos about axolotls as I'm getting my first next week, and they have been so helpful! Thank you!
Frankie! Frankie! I've found a really cool decoration idea and tutorial video on RU-vid! You can USE A COCONUT as a hide! Cut the door shape with a drill and boil for a couple of hours!! Cheap and easy 😍 now I need to find a drill 😅
Animals are quite clever when giving the chance, I don’t know anything about axolotls, but as a dart frog owner and past fish keeper sometimes they can do amazing things that make you question how you view other “simple” animals. My dart frogs love exploring little hides I make
My chocolate labrador (or land pup) is called Pudding so when you started saying 'hello pudding' she was wagging at you trying to tell you that she's getting a water pup soon :)
In regards to painting the back of the tank I am cycling a tank currently to get ready for my first Axolotl, I frosted the glass on three sides and it's very attractive in my opinion.
I'm glad I've come across your channel. I got 3 axolotls this week (the first ones I've had in about 10 years) and needed a bit of a reminder of how to care for them so you've definitely got another sub from me
I’m using slate in the bottom of my tank, I used to use fine sand but it was a pain to clean. It’s a good mix between bear bottom and fine sand with the strengths of both (it’s easier to clean than sand, gives them texture to walk on and it gives a finished look!)
Great video 👍. Just an alternative hide option to your glass jars.... Plant pots on their side also work a treat for Axolotls and again are very cheap and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Ceramic is probably best but you can also use plastic if you half bury it in some sand or weigh it down. Most people should have easy access to plant pots. Love the fact you can still see them in your glass jars though, that is the downside to the pots.
My daughter came home today asking for 1 of these.Never heard of them.So here learning. They are adorable♡ Cant wait to get a lil one.Thank you so much for all of the info to help us give him the best care..& plus you made me laugh as well♡ great sense of humor lol 😁
Re: the substrate - I was stressing as well when we got our 'Bonk', I found the best of all worlds (for all the spot on reasons you listed) was a cut to size sandstone paver, looks amazing with both colour and texture, nothing loose and easy to clean. Great vids by the way 🙂
You are a blast to watch and learn from! Thanks for not being boring! So I am about to be the owner of 2 axolotl's! I'm so excited but want to do everything right! They are going into my 55g tank. I'm currently taking out the substrate which were pebbles (on the big side and they are not sharp) but after watching several videos and learning... Fine sand or nothing will happen! What temp do you keep your tanks? Do I NEED a chiller or will a fan do? I keep my house temp at 68°F year round. Oh and I have a lid with holes in it so they won't jump out. I can use all your advice you are willing to give! I am experienced with fresh and salt tanks (I have both) but this is new territory! Thanks in advance!
I know your intro by heart, LOL..and say it right along with you. As far as hides, You can use terra cotta pots, slate and rocks to make your own hide. That is what I have. Also you can use the bearded dragon hammock for them to rest on as well.
hi! id just like to leave a suggestion for you to clip parts of your video based on all the points you make so that its easier for us to get straight to the points you make! if you already do this in your more recent videos that's great!
Java ferns are perfect for axolotls, even when they do sit on them the leaves are strong enough to hold them up and I’ve been putting them with my axolotls for years ❤
Fantastic! So, keep them at a low temperature, yet not quite as low as an axolotl tank, maybe 18-19°C, and do not disturb them for 3 weeks and your axolotl babies will hatch out! Some people run part water changes, but I find disturbing them can prove detrimental to your hatch rate. Yoi can however add a small air stone to help keep the water aerated, which also helps! What types are you expecting? How exciting! Do keep me updated! 😁💙🌟🌈
My collab video with 'Girl Talks Fish', formerly 'A Gamers Wife' might prove useful to you! - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T7y6kLr2ErU.html
I think your sand looks great! So clean! Mine would go nasty within a couple weeks 😂 i may have got Dotty to nibble my finger a couple times 😂😂 i thik its so cute, shes a greedy little thing!
What an awesome video! Very informative. My husband and I and our kids enjoyed your sense of humor. I subscribed and will check out your web. I look forward to more videos.
I have a snake, and two Axolotls, I’ve found that ANYTHING that is safe for a snake to rub up against, will be ok for them to rub up against. Our ball python Louis grew out of his hide, and we cleaned it with HOT water and SOAP then gave it to Skoll and Hati our Axo’s. They both adore it, so much so that I might have to get them each their own as they sometimes get annoyed at one another. Go to the pet store and get a couple hides, and snake safe driftwood that IS NOT SHARP, they will love you for it
I’ve came to your videos often as I’m preparing for an Axolotl. I am very appreciative for your information! I apologize if you’ve been asked this before, but, what is your opinion on dragon stone? Do you think it might be too rough/sharp? Thank you again!
My lil baby always comes out of the hide when she sees my mother for some odd reason, but in my opinion she was out of her hide more in the winter and I definitely have to try the glass jar hide
Could you make a video about online shopping for them because you can’t test them and it may be that they don’t show that, And maybe do a video of also good hiding places, I cannot find anything so I clicked by you because I think you’d now 😅
Thank you so much! I'm pleased you've enjoyed my uploads! 😊💙 So, you have a few choices in regards to aquarium stands, you can either purchase a builders work station stand, which you can convert given you order something of a correct size. You can also purchase aquariums stands that are build to size too, or you can try your hand at a custom build stand, which doesn't have to cost the earth and are fairly straightforward so long as you have the right tools!
i use an industrial wire rack. i have a 33 long tank on the bottom for my axolotl, and i’ll have a betta tank and blue velvet shrimp tank on top :) just be careful and check how much weight each shelf can hold before purchasing. mine is from uline :)
Thinking you could paint the top and backside of a glass jar with acrylic paint, would make the hide dark for them, but being mostly clear, we could still see them. Doing tons of research before I set up my tank and get a rescue axolotl.
Hi! Great video! I wanted to ask a question though. Before putting your decorations in you're axolotls tank (fake plants, hides, etc.) do you need to rinse them off? If so, do you rinse them with regular tap water, or add water conditioner to dechlorinate the water before rinsing the decorations? Thank you very much! You're videos have been very helpful.
Yeah i totally love your acent and with your look .. like my BFF is red BIg beard, túnnels ans tattoos and little scary to look but then he is just BIg beutiful Bear and i am sukker for gingers
I got smooth stones to build my axolotl a house. What kind of glue can I use? Can I seal the rocks first to protect them from cracking? They're rose quartz
I’m new to axolotls, but have had every other type of amphibians and reptiles for 20 years. I got a couple axolotl few weeks ago for my son and they are so cool! I love them. Not sure if this is normal behavior but every time I feed mine when he finishes eating he will dart up to the surface and poke his little head out of the water, almost like he is saying thank you, it’s adorable. Is this normal behavior? I searched online but couldn’t find anything
i rescued 2 boys from my local pet shop. the shop took em in they do norrmaly carry them and do take really good care of them. they see me and instatly look at me ive had them 1 day im exited to add more stuff!
Hey I love the video! I was just wondering is there a reason you keep all the hides and plants on one side of the aquarium, and leave the other half wide open?
My Axolotls fins have been straight up & down for the past 12 hours or so. We just put it in the tank yesterday so I’m wondering if it’s from the filter or if it’s okay? I’m new to this & done a lot of research but everyone says something different. I’m just curious of your opinion & thoughts!
Hi I just found your channel because I was searching for best deco's etc and was amazed by what you were suggesting and laughing because we have 4 Axolotl's, 1 female and 3 males and yes all have their own personalities and know when it's time for feeding and who the feeder is. I do have a question though, can you use deco's made of epoxy resin in their tanks? Definitely sharing this with hubby as I think it is time for a new layout and I want to make some items to place in their tank. Thanks heaps from Axl, Rose, Ragnar and Hannibal (btw Ragnar is the female lol)
Hey, I’m from Belgium and i have a lot of questions. Is it possible to make a video about what to do when the baby axolotls get there legs. How many do you put together and how? Please help. It’s my first time whit eggs. They are growing very good. Thanks for your wonderfull channel! Please help if you find the time. Greatings from Belgium! Bye bye
Hi again. Just curious what water parameters are best for them? I have quite hard water here ☹️ Best vid so far btw! Love your honest and enthusiastic advice
Firstly, thank you so much for your kind words and support. I appreciate that so much! 😁 So, axolotls are fairly hardy when it comes to water hardness/softeness, and ideal conditions can be debatable between keepers. My water sits around the mid range and I've had no alarming issues with this whatsoever, however I also know friends in the hobby who has soft water right the way through and upto hard conditions, and neither have caused any issues to their axolotl. By all means if you'd wish to talk more on range and water quality please feel free to email me so we can discuss it further! - Frankiesaquaticsuk@gmail.com. Again, many thanks for your support! 😁💙🌟🌈
Frankie's Aquatics - Great reply, thanks so much. That’s good to hear. Located just outside london so my water is rather hard. But from what you’ve said there’s hope! Just have to convince the wife for another tank! 😬 Fingers 🤞 Finally, you mentioned some plants can be suitable. Have you kept them with a soil substrate?! I’m a keen aquascaper so would like to continue this with an axolotl. I know MD has done it. Thanks again
I always wanted a axolotl but I don't now I'm allowed to have one but if I do get one I'll now what to get but do you have a limit or can you add as much as you can?
hey frankie! what kind of filtration system do you use in your axolotl tanks? also, how do you keep the water in the cooler 60-68 degree temps? im very interested in getting my first axolotl, any advice would be much appreciated
Hey I recently like 3 weeks ago got baby 2 Axolotls and tonight actually one is like floating on it’s back and and is active. I never seen anything like this from him before, do you have any idea what it might be.
Heey Man! I don't know if you reply, but i had a question about my axolotl. I have 3 of them, but 1 his gews are really tiny. They starting to turn white and lose their little strings attached to them. I have reduced the flow of the water to almost non, the water temp is controlled, but still it is losing his giws. Can you give some advise? Thanks in advance! Your content is really helpfull!
Hi I would test your water. It is a sign of stress which could indicate bad water or something else is bothering him or her. Try darken the room plenty of hides, keep the water cool and keep an eye on him xx
