Donna Bodient and Christan Griego from Sota Turntables gave me an overview tour of the current turntable line-up! Back in the early 1980's my family was one of Sota's original audio dealers. It was good to get an overview of the current line with the owners and to see the 2019 AXPONA show on a mobility scooter!

I still have my Star Sapphire I bought in 1988. It's a gem.

I'm considering the Sota Comet 5. It's a nice looking table and the price is right as far as my budget is concerned. Thanks for the video.

Sota are fantastic , I have had my Star Sapphire since 1990 . I visited Mr Fletcher in Oakland CA . I am from Australia. My TT is in Brazilian Rosewood ; I changed the belt for the fist time last year ; it really didn't need it .

Great! The Star Sapphire was always a good selling turntable for our store back in the day! What arm did you put on the table?

@@RussIsRight Russ I use a Graham 2. It works well ; I have two ceramic wands . I was given a loan SME V but ended up with the Graham . I also have one of those John Curl Vendetta SCP2A it has been hard to beat .

I had the saphire with vacuum and I put a SME V tone arm. I miss that quality of music. Simply the best quality I could get in 1986. I couldnt even come close to hearing the quality today at all.

In the early days of SOTA, we sold Sapphires and Star Sapphires with Premier MMT tonearms for those who wanted a more affordable arm. But we also sold SME arms, Alphason arms and the Sumiko “The Arm” on them. Ah, I miss those days when we were dealers! Thanks for the comment.

@@RussIsRight I loved music. And I spent way too much money on my stereo. From my dragon, dq 10's with subs and accustat and hafler amps it was clean and pure. I miss listening to it. I got married and bam a buddy bought it all. You must've had some really nice gear.
@RussIsRight
@RussIsRight 4 года назад
You had some great gear. We sold Hafler back then as well. Dahlquist, Nakamichi, and Accustat were sold by two other stores in our area so that precluded us from carrying those lines. Audio gear had territories back then. We were lucky to get Sota. In Chicago, only three dealers had the line of which we were one of the lucky to carry it. Nice to know they have survived.

Virtually everything is measurable in Audio but very little is actually audible.Dont be fooled.
@carmenandthedevil2804

No it isnt mate. Measuring equipment has a big caveat. Humans designed and built it with limited knowledge. That Lack of knowledge pulls that whole arguement down. In other words, measuring equipment is finite and blinkered by its own design. A waste of time in the audio/music industry.

Wish I knew you were going. Did you see Audience Cables? Lenny Mayouex?

No. I actually did not go to all the various sound room, only two floors worth. Too difficult getting on the elevators with my scooter, so I gave up. :(

@@RussIsRight James Newton Howard and Friends was my favorite reference recording. I'm not sure there was a better one ever made.

We had all those recordings for demo material. If I don’t still have it with me, my brother has it. All the Telarc records (we sold that too), Mobile Fidelity, Sheffield... yeah we sold that too.

@@RussIsRight I just got the new SOTA Comet V and I approve. The older model was a bit neutral sounding but this new one has thump. Nice deep clear controlled low end. The new brass legs are extremely heavy and leveling was a joy with them. The overall build is still amazing.

Glad to hear they are doing things right still! My family was one of their first dealers when SOTA first hit the market way back in the day. I'll be attending Axpona 2020 and hope to say hi to them again at that time!
