Hi Jay - Scott DeLoache here, Starke Sound's Chief Design Director. Glad you had a chance to stop by our room to check out our new Beta7's and P7's. We always welcome your insight and great production value. See you next year at Axpona!
Thanks for the shout-out and showing me the other side of the show. You are the hardest working guy in the game, and it's a much better time going to Axpona as a visitor 😂
I dig the affordable rooms as the hobby gets real crazy very quickly. There we only so many people with that kind of money to spend. Mad respect to companies focusing on building a high quality hifi component on a midfi price
Great coverage and commentary Jay. You have real talent for this and your video quality is great. I thought the show was great and most rooms really sounded good. Well done. Thanks
Those Orchestalls from Korea were incredible. I'm glad you featured them. I know the look turned some people off but the sound was just unbelievable. So effortlessly dynamic.
Thx so much Jay 🙏 This is the best type of show coverage ever seen on RU-vid. Really appreciate the amount of effort you put into it to create such high quality videos 👍 So, Kudo's to you and your team! Keep up the good work 👌
wow, felt like i was there great content. im starting my journey into hifi and researching on owning a great 2.2 system with bookshelf's and budget subs. i have learnt so much from your videos. what are the best bookshelfs $2k can buy to have a wall of sound and not feel like i have sit in front of the tweeter to get good imaging. all suggestions are appreaciated.
Excellent! Very high production quality! I enjoy your descriptions of the sound. I'm curious: did you hear the Joseph Audio room? Joseph continually gets kudos, best of or among best of show from so many attendees and apparently it was a great room again this year. Any comments? (I'm presuming one reason you don't mention them is that there are so many rooms at the show, and I think you want to feature newer products?)
A soothing balm of a video, esp' after recently trying to get to the who's, what's & why's behind world events (it causes a kinda headache) I saw & heard good stuff from J about a some designs here, esp the panel hybrids, a lottery win sized amount would see me trying out some for diff' room set-ups in a suitable mansion. But the UK lottery per £2 or £3(?) ticket works math'= to picking 1 winner from 13.7 million horses dashing out the start gate. so I don't do it, so an unknown uber' wealthy dead relative's inheritance then.
Hello Jay love all your reviews. there are 2 new dacs currently making waves on youtube at the moment which are the Laiv harmony dac and the holo audio cyan2 dac. can't wait for see your reviews on any this dacs
My god. Well done! By far the best coverage of any hii-fi show I've seen. Visual content, excellent. Commentary, exellent. And you didn't shy away from naming a "best of." I do have to ask though: you said the Gauder and the Borresen rooms sounded best to you. But when you described the room with the BACCH sound processor (from Princeton U.), you kind of gave the impression that it was superior to the Borresen room. Am I interpreting your remarks correctly?
The bacch sp intrests me from what I have read about it. Absolute sound has a good review and breakdown online. Perhaps groundbreaking or perhaps just a kind of imax for the ears that doesn't find its place in the everyday home audio. Fascinating though.
@@Jayiyagi I have the Maria amplifier and I also had the Bacch. Believe me once you try the Maria in your system there will be nothing else you will want!
Hi Jay. Great coverage of the show👍 Do you think that the Borresen X series is a little cool sounding (clinical)? I owned the Børresen X1, but i returned them, because to me they sound a bit clinical. And the soundstage depth was not great. So now i have my Audiovector R1 Arrete speakers back again, and i love listening to music again.
Based on what I've experience thus far, I can see how one would find Borresen speakers to be clinical when paired with their own brand gear (audio group denmark). But I've found success in getting a much more inviting sound using other gear in the market (check out my X2 review) and I don't necessarily find them clinical as much as I am amazed by it being an analytical masterpiece. As with anything, not for everyone for sure
8:08 It would have a lot to do with the amp (I reckon). I build speakers with cheap drivers and the bass is incredible for $40 woofers! I have an Audiolab 6000A amp and it kicks ass in the bass region for such low power. I didn't even notice the 150 watts less than my old amp with the Audiolad (not at all). So imagine an 8 grand amp for bass. My Audiolab will make a completely open FR driver (just by itself) sound awesome. The bass is still there (just really soft and huski) and the kick sounds incredible on the open driver. And the bass has improved on my completed speakers with the Audiolab (ompared to my $330 AU 200 watt Jaycar amp). And it had great bass mainly cos of the high power. If I run the same open driver (by itself) on a cheap class D amp (without tone controls) I would not be able to listen to the open driver. But with the Audiolab I can. I reckon, in some ways amps make more difference than speakers...but also in some ways, speakers make more difference than amps.😅
So, do you think the baach system will ever be affordable? I’ve heard from others that it is a game changer but not for the money they want now. There are gaming systems with the same type of thing and the cost is not crazy.
Having modular speaker parts and crossover parts makes anyone a speaker designer and builder! I reckon a lot of DAC and pre- amp sales could go down. A change in a crossover component would make way more difference tha a 20 grand DAC over a $200 DAC. Way more difference! Speaker voicing is like DAC and component swapping and tube rolling, on steroids! 😅 I design and build speakers and the hardest part is the voicing (by a large measure). Really hard to make them sound how you want. That's why it took B&W 3 years to develop their entry level 606 speakers. I got 706s as reference and my speakers flog them cos the B&Ws don't sound how I want them to sound. Mine sound nearly the same (on axis) but definitely not, off axis. 😅 Mine are dipole open (modified) 5" FR drivers on top of the box and a woofer in the box. More treble at 90° angle and even 180° than the B&Ws.
I assume that at the KMD room that they didn't admit any married guys to come in. There is no way, no way, that a married guy would be allowed to have those speakers inside their home, unless it was some kind of isolated man-cave.
I really hope these companies are paying you for all the interviews & free promotion you are giving them. Not to mention the beyond professional quality I see no reason not to get paid for interviews even if you are a reviewer. A photographer/cinematographer will happily charge 10k for a promotional video & sharing on his/her socials too. So how you shooting & promotion their interviews to 1000s shouldn't bring monetary benefits for you is beyond me. Hope you start making money with those interviews & take my advice.
I appreciate it! The interviews (axpona exclusives) are paid at the bare minimum as of now to barely offset the costs. (All disclosed in those videos) The show coverage (this video) itself is not sponsored. This is the first time I charged anything at a show… (for exclusives) Currently I am not sure if we can do this every year as even just for passion… due to cost and efforts required but I hope so as it’s just so cool to share these shows at a high production level!
@@Jayiyagi good news mate. I actually didn't watch any of your previous videos of those shows yet. But now that i'm in US I will surely try to meet you in person. & when i build my own diy speakers i surely will get your input on them. Cheers!
