I’m thrilled to hear the Well-Tempered sounding so great at what’s probably a reasonable price point compared to many of the others here

I have had two Well Tempered Tables: the original table and now the Amadeus G.T.A. and I love them both! Running the G.T.A. through a vincent PHO-701 into vincnet 237mkII wirh a Hana ML using the MM input on the 701 thanks to Bob's Devices Sky20 SUT... So musical. Great to see the (some what rare) Well Tempered products feature in videos...such a value compared to today's elaborate designs. Simple is best!

Thanks for the great video Ken! There seems to be basically two philosophies regarding the aesthetics of these machines. On one hand you have the “ how can we make it sleek and simple?”approach as in the EMT, Well Tempered, Technics etc. On the other you have the jr. high machine shop fantasy approach. Many of these look like they were sketched out on blue lined paper during a boring english class. They are really grotesque and frankly wasteful like a monster truck or something.

When you take the massive damping approach, you have to do something with the mass to try to make it look pretty. There’s no way to make it look pretty.

EMT, absolutely. No, not the table, the system and arm with the garrard table. 🙂. Oh, they’re here already, both of them - tables, systems and ortofon arms. Uuups. Ok, no need for axepoona, then.

How are these hifi companies still operating with the prices they charge us? It’s highway robbery 😅 if I did have a money cow out back I’d put it on loudspeakers or a very good amp not a turntable.

How are all these car companies charging such outlandish prices for an automobile?, I mean it's highway robbery Also how are all these home building companies charging such high prices for a home, I feel like I'm getting ripped off.
@tonywheeler917
@tonywheeler917 3 месяца назад
If you look at the prices decades ago you will see that these prices follow inflation. Only the affluent and dedicated hobbyists could afford hifi in past decades going back to the 1950s, just as today. What is remarkable is the wide range of choices today. Perhaps more affluent people than ever?
@Audiorevue
@Audiorevue 3 месяца назад
@@tonywheeler917 absolutely true, I think the main difference between then and now is the prevalence of affordable hi-fi relative to consumer usage and people wanting to buy it. If you think about the '60s and '70s everybody had a stereo, you could go to any home in America or elsewhere for that matter, and basically every home you went into would have a stereo. Now granted the majority of stereos that you would have seen would have been inexpensive or budget options. But occasionally you would run across somebody having a Mcintosh or home built dynakit system which was far and away better than the budget options. Today even with the prolification of budget Hi-Fi being better than ever, the consumer uptake for Budget Hi-Fi is far less prevalent than it used to be. So the focus and what tends to come to the public consciousness more often is going to be the expensive, the esoteric, price no object items that are so ungodly expensive that only the most wealthy 1% could ever afford them. And then I read comments like what this gentleman said here and all you get is this perspective that all Hi-Fi nowadays is expensive and outrageously unaffordable, when that couldn't be further from the truth. But because that's the main focus of the Hi-Fi press and the general consensus that people see in the media that's what they think. People need to do more research and really truly see the prices of amplifiers and turntables and CD players and all the general Hi-Fi goodness that can be had, before they come to this conclusion that all of Hi-Fi is just a rich man's game, when it is most certainly not, and I would argue that the best of what this hobby has to offer is under the $10,000 Mark.
@gotham61
@gotham61 3 месяца назад
There is plenty of affordable HiFi equipment available today, but that not the stuff that makes it into an eye candy video from a HiFi show.
