I was deeply disappointed to read Tekton's email demanding to "...begin litigation first thing in the morning if the review isn't pulled". Transparency is a trait that customers value. I truly hope that one day the owner, Eric can find his path back to ethical business practices.
Right? The fact that the feet mounting points are not blind holes shows poor build quality considering this is on a multi-thousand dollar loudspeaker cabinet.
@@jayjacaty3009 Maybe he had good aspirations at some point, but like many in high-end audio, realized a lot of the customers much more prioritize a nice-sounding sales pitch than nice-sounding speakers. Then the quality followed.
Just say "guys, I'm really sorry I lost my shit over a simple issue. I over reacted and said some stupid things." That's how you should have fixed this. Instead you dug a hole and jumped right in. Really crappy business choice as you are finding out.
You're stupid aren't you? Rhetorical question. JM Labs/Focal did it. So did many others. It's nothing new or out of the ordinary. What kind of idiot doesn't notice them installed? I know. Erin! 🤣
The only reason he wants your lawyer involved is to cost you money, further dissuading you from ever reviewing these products. And by veiling their measurements they can always claim your measurements are incorrect and use that as a basis for "litigation".
that's why it's always not advisable to represent yourself in the court or PR.... unless it's for apology..... nothing comes good when you're defending your position from unpopular angle
It seems odd that he claims to have performed 20,000 acoustical measurements and Erin has likely accumulated thousands of hours of measurements, yet lawyers are expected to figure out the correct conclusion from these measurements.
Wow, the comments are not good. Your email was posted, the viewership read it and somehow now you want them to believe a different story. A quick apology might have worked better and ended this? People have short memories and if your speakers were as good as you say they sound, then I’ll venture to say it would have become a moot point. Everyone knows RU-vid reviewers need a hook to get viewers to read in. Erin’s response was perfect, yours specs were not and he laid it all out for us to see. Bad move and even worse follow up on your part that seems disingenuous to save yourself from the backlash you are currently in.
Mr. Alexander -- When you use the "L-Word" in an email, and then PERSONALLY ON VIDEO, talk about "My lawyer has a twenty-minute conversation with your lawyer", THAT is the ENTIRE problem that everyone is seeing/talking about. I'm older than you are (almost 70 years old), but even I know that the "L-Word", having lawyers talk to each other, and "get something accomplished that is good for me", sure sounds like "Sue", and I'm not talking about Johnny Cash's hit song. If you are losing any business, it is because of YOUR actions.
Yeah these kids today, always want their lawyers to handle it;-) I'm older than Eric too and have been designing speakers a bit longer. I do find some of his designs interesting, I need to find an opportunity to audition them some day.
@@mfkhometheater7742 -- I would be interested in what your designs look like, and what the cost breakdown would be. I am always on the hunt for things to connect up to my Vintage stereo electronics.. Just a thought.
Many unscrupulous people do that to get a settlement payout (legal version of blackmail, with the threat of costing them even more money via a SLAP lawsuit in court) .. Groundless claims like that should be criminal.
The second review helped you, simple bracing or a thicker top may fix the impedence issue at little extra cost and you still talk about litigation. You have no shame.
@@tpn8402 OH, I agree, the damage was done, just speculation on how things could have been simple and leave no long lasting damage to either party. As you say, too late.. IMHO due to one ego and it wasn't Erins
Are you not adult enough that you can sort out problems first without almost immediately threatening with a lawyer? Very sad. The reviewers asked for your FR measurements and you refused so that's also on you. It's about time you published measurements
Eric Alexander has finally steered me away from buying Tekton speakers. I was actually looking to buy one of their perfect SET speakers but I cannot give my money to this character. This video is BS. I really don't care is there is a flaw in the speaker or not. Every speaker has flaws. Eric has way more flaws than his speakers. Eric, you are the one killing your business regardless of what any RU-vid says.
ERIN'S review had actually put Tektran on my buy list. Not now. Ive been a teacher 24 years. This man seems to be very, very immature, like no one actually ever CORRECTED him. I will pray, hope for him.
Yes, Erin’s review was actually very mild in its criticism. Especially considering, as Alexander states here, that it’s not that expensive a speaker and one that is an old design. He blew up over NOTHING!
@18000rpm It was a private matter, and nothing happened. It's still on the reviewer for throwing this into the publics face and destroying a brilliant company's product creating hate.
@@superdougie10 he did it to himself for acting like a jackass. I hope Tekton goes out of business. He tried to be a bully and it blew up in his face 🤷♂️
Omg..he mentions not having the feet on the bottom..Erin did a second review and pulled the first one off and his measurements were the same with the feet on as well.I found Erins behavior to be accomodating and Professional
Your words were clear, on the response you sent back. Your pattern has been shown. You made matters worst, by not appropriately responding or working with Erin to mutually resolve a perceived issue or mistake. Shame on you and your business practices.
Just bad judgement on your part Eric, it wasn't a bad review, you should never bring up litigation or even react to an online review unless someone is relentlessly attacking you. None of this would be happening if you had just ignored it, your sales would not have been negatively impacted, and most would have forgotten about it by now. You made a mistake, and this video wasn't exactly the best damage control. I've never heard your speakers, I've been building my own for 50+ years, so you're not losing any business from me because I would have never been a customer anyway. If this were not the case however, Erin's review would not have deterred me from considering your product. Your response to Erin however would. Just a suggestion, your best bet now is probably to just be quiet about it and let it eventually blow over. I see a lot of negativity in the comments here so clearly the damage control isn't working. From what I've seen, you have some unique designs and there is a market for that so just let it go, let things quiet down and in time it will be as if it never happened.
This is not the first time I have known of you and your company doing this. This is the reason I explicitly avoid your products even after hearing them.
Glad to see someone saved it. I left a comment on that vid then the vid was removed after I, and all the others commented, he was still wrong and was lying he didn't threaten to sue and intimidate Erin. As expected, Erin's measurements with feet added resulted in zero differences. I was interested in the brand until this fluff up and Eric cost himself far more biz by that response vs anything Erin could have done.
Eric seems to misrepresent the distressing legal threat he made to Erin (@ Erin's Audio Corner). I'm not beleiving anything further he says. Tekton is now dead to me.
I’m a Tekton fan, I have a pair and love them but this has Made me lose a lot of respect for this dude. I trust Erin’s measurements, it was not this big of a deal but now it is. It’s his own fault and yes it is a threat of a law suit that’s what lawyers do.
Listening to this gentleman's thoughts here - I am concerned he has mental health issues. That's why its important not to bully this man. He has made s series of poor choices here, but the tone of his voice suggests he may be approaching a mental breakdown.
@@Monkeyseemonkey79 you’re twisting what I am saying…his personal issues are just that his personal issues/his responsibility. He makes a public video being a bully, he reaps what he sows.
6:55 - I'm so glad he's not trying to offend anyone. Making friends = if you don't take down your review tomorrow morning I will need to seek litigation and seek damages ... : | 8:45 - well, it's a resonance ... Yep. Erin picked it up on a whim and then backed it up with a DATS v3 in a few minues ... and yet the manufacturer is completely clueless and offended?!?!?? =|
Meanwhile, Tekton official channel has disabled comments :D Love to see the like/dislike ratio on his last videos. Wonder how many orders people have cancelled after this show.
Hold on. Please clarify if I am wrong. You just said for people to turn their data over to you, the maker, and if it matches your data, you’ll co-sign it 🤔. Or…both sides can sit down with a non-acoustical experts, lawyers, and they can confirm or correct errors in data 🤔. Did my ears glitch?
This is just his polite way of saying "Only post positive reviews or I'll get my lawyers". You have to wonder how long this guy has been BS'ing people to think delivering this warning in his quiet, polite way will actually fly outside his usual country club crowd.
💯 Unfortunately, this isn’t uncommon. I posted a video about a high end knife I bought and the maker did some similar things. He lead off with I should have contacted him first AND shared my video before saying or posting anything 👀. WHAT!?!? I know we live in a litigious country and time, but if something can be shown, objectively, what’s the problem? Even if there is question, what do you sound like trying to suppress opposing takes?
Eric Alexander, you totally lost the focus on this one. Independent measurements should be independent, and he has no right to treat any reviewer the way he did here, no matter how justified he think it is. A independent measurement should not be subject to his verification anyway. In that case, we could just publish the manufacturers own measurements... THUS having NO second opinion. Jeez... How many times have manufactures not been "inventing" measurements? What manufacturers should always be allowed to do though, is to have their say, and defend whatever on the reviewers channel. Then the consumer can decide themselves! He went about it all wrong here, trying to mis-credit Erin in many little ways in his video. But seriously, In the end, NOTHING LIKE THIS matters. If he had send a kind message to Erin, explaining what he thought it was, erin would have included it and investigated it as a reviewer caring so much for his integrity, and that he stepped on. That will not end well for Tekton it will hurt, no matter good intentions or not. We need a alliance for reviewers, media and manufacturers that support Honest Reviews striving to Make HIFI great again for a new generation. Nerd extreme wars like this, does not help the image of HIFI. Eric burned both ends coming on to Erin like this. He did not do his homework.
You're making enemies and you're hurting your brand. I'm a customer a buyer of your products and the more you talk the greater my product goes down in value so please do everybody a favor, be quiet!
Why should a magazine send you the pdf of the review for fact checking if he’s entitled to publish it as it is..? This is just a subtle way to say that you want to be able to push the review in a different direction before it is published
So, I was seriously thinking of importing some Tektons last year but the shipping and import costs were prohibitive at the time. I was still planning to do so at some point. Whilst I found their customer service was responsive in answering my various questions, various people were warning me to be cautious on forums. I then discovered this whole recent controversy and this video really put me off taking a risk on Tekton. Like so many others on here, I am amazed at the way he has chosen to address this issue. I also happen to be a lawyer and am calling bs on the whole notion that litigation meant a friendly chat between lawyers. We all know it does not work out like that. He should have taken a more diplomatic approach and essentially tried to discuss it maturely like he is attempting to do now, but I suspect it is too little too late and the damage is already done.
I have designed quite a few speakers and measure them. There is no way that 250 Hz wiggle is due to air leakage. That is a cabinet resonance. They happen. Get over it!
So I own Tekton speakers (and love them), probably have a larger income than most youtube channel hosts. But regardless of going to court, retaining a lawyer is beyond the normal budget of most people. Telling them to have their attorney talk to yours is a threat, a financial threat. Presumably they're doing reviews with the same measuring equipment on speakers from companies much larger than yours. And they've obviously produced some undesirable measurements on other products. But you're the one with threats. Consumers like myself, do not come to amateur youtube sites to listen to reviewers who are paid by companies, or censored by others. Get the f*** over it and grow up or you'll lose a big chunk of your business (to Tekton). Eric wants to circumvent free speech in America.
@@ManFromLaBamba "His response makes me wonder how he deals with customer service. Just saying it doesn’t instill confidence". Imply the product is a mismatch to the customer's tastes and upsell.
Britannica Dictionary definition of LITIGATE. law. : to make (something) the subject of a lawsuit : to cause (a case, an issue, etc.) to be decided and settled in a court of law.
Okay, so I've now watched what all the fuss is about. I think it's boiled into an OTT reaction. Could this have been dealt with better - oh yes. I can see now why this video is probably making the situation worse. And it's all over something that could have been dealt with in a much more professional manner. Such a shame.
It took a while but then it came; “I want the audiophiles to sit down and listen…” He hit on the real issue that bothers manufacturers, like him, these days. A growing group of audiophiles that have learned that measurements (can) say more about what a product could mean to your enjoyment and wallet than subjective sponsored reviews from the snake oil salesmen that has been the driving force in this “audiophile” industry for decades. They all shouted and still want to shout “don’t rely on measurements, rely on your ears” and when your ears aren’t satisfied we can sell you some “better” (read: more expensive) cables. If you get sick and tired from an overdose of snake oil, they happily sell you more of it to “cure” you. This guy’s feelings got hurt from a video that the majority of his (potential) customers won’t even see, because they don’t believe in measurements. By publicly freaking out over it, he has even drawn attention from these people and it’s imploding his business. How stupid (and proud) can you be. It’s a good thing that in the end the manufacturers who are going to take the growing number of audiophiles that understand the value of objective measurements seriously, will have a greater chance of success when they work with these reviewers and customers to improve their products and with that the experience we have as listeners. To Erin and Amir: keep up the good work. This ordeal proved its significance.
Yes and of course today it is harder to listen to a wide range of speakers in a showroom etc. and the same crowd that pays attention to measurements is aware of the showroom tuned speakers that sound energetic, and super detailed in that setting for the ten mi utes or do you listen to it but end up being fatiguing and unpleasant for longer periods in home settings (which tends to have more reflective walls etc).
High-end audio is a lot like fine wines. Lots of customers who like to believe they can tell the difference but really care more about the emotional sales pitch - the supposed "passion" from the humble "craftsman" - than the wine itself. If it doesn't taste right, "Well, it must be me. After all, it's $50 a bottle."
He didn't threaten to sue. He just said you need to spend money on a lawyer to meet with my lawyer, and if you don't want to keep spending money on that lawyer, you better agree to my terms. Screw this guy. If he has better measurements, prove it with your own video debunking Erin's. Threatening litigation is a way to shut people up. Whovever has the deepest pockets wins. It's not playing fair. I don't trust this guy based on his actions. I'm sure he'd be a real peach to deal with if you had problems with his speakers.
"We seem to continue to have problems with measurements in those reviews" :D The guy thinks he's the only person who should be allowed to measure loudspeakers. This situation has shown that he, a manufacturer makes mistakes too. The loudspeaker did have poorly constructed cabinet. This isn't the first time this happened. Vance Dickason's work shows plenty of hi-end drivers with imbalanced drive units. It's a direct result of their QC. It's not a problem, it's a REALITY CHECK. Manufacturers are imperfect. Their products are not carbon copies, they have defects, it's happens, it's life. That's why I like brands Sennheiser - they cost a little more, but they fail less than their more aggressively priced competition. Besides don't you love when business money is chasing people with lawyers? If Eric can't see how abrasive behaviour this is, he should have a reality check. A reviewer is not on even ground with a manufacturing company. "I have best friends lawyers" - Who knew!? /s
Tekton will need to start dumping prices to survive, when dealers can make more margin they will evidently push the product to consumers who don't know better. Eric said to start publishing in-house measurements (which is a good move), if the data is good and product does performs, it will be great value. The only issue I have after seeing Erin's measurement is the Troubadour really has high multitone distortion (which means the vocals are muffled), if Eric can't solve it, than the Troubadour might as well be dead.
Bullying honest reviewers is a fast track to not selling your product. After watching Erin's original review I was actually thinking about buying these but I'll never buy from this brand now.
I was considering buying a pair Ulfberht to replace my ageing Infinity IRS Betas. All this is making me think twice. So I found a company in Germany that will completely rebuild my Infinitys for around 12K. He has glowing reviews and took the best part of an hour talking to me. My best friend multi lingual and translated when needed. Since I am a technician he is letting me ship just the EMIT drivers and I will assemble them myself. It's easier than the Apogee Diva bass ribbon I changed for a friend whos maid sunk a vacuum cleaner handle through it.
Tekton is like the plague now. I won’t have anything to do with it. Probably wouldn’t have had anything to do with Tekton anyway but wow this guy has killed his business. Eric, you know what litigation means and you know the reaction you were trying to get.
Eric at Tekton Designs truly nailed the coffin into TekTon himself, hope Eric understands and takes responsibility for these debacles which he created himself #meaculpa #ericlikesfeet 🦶🦶🦶🦶
Things have changed. Nothing is standard anymore. We now have youtube reviewers and many are really good. Threatening with the term litigation says Im suing you. I hope this speaker designer/builder makes up with the reviewer.
