One of the greatest tensions in American society exists between preserving freedom of speech and respecting the sensitivities of marginalized communities, and it has been manifesting increasingly in academics, business, and the arts. Ayad Akhtar, the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, novelist, and President of PEN America, joins Interfaith America Founder and President Eboo Patel in conversation to explore how to hold space for intellectual liberty and creative expression without sacrificing the dignity of individual identities and beliefs.

this video should be shown in full during prime time. what a wonderful, thoughtful, insightful, idea filled, articulate, intelligent examination of the issues. These two are gold. Ayad is a favorite playwright of mine -- who i sense is frustrated, trying to make art, now. Thank you both!!!

Considering the massive amount of legislation that is happening in the US to prevent curriculums from being inclusive of historical and contemporary information I find the direction the interviewer was going focusing on POC to be strange and inconsistent with the reality of where the oppressive and exclusionary rhetoric and actions actually occur. Ayad was very thoughtful and expressed many nuanced views.

The end results of any Artist's ,work of art, whether ,written or painted....is a representation of this Artist's perception is appreciated or is repulsive, is decided by the recipient of either reading or viewing. As an example, to use compared to the image of the Prophet Mohammed,....is Robert Mapplethorpe's ,photography.
