I bought 'Crooked Plow' roughly a month ago and stumbled upon your wonderfully crafted review today. I think it's about time I dive into the book. Thank you!

I read this a few weeks ago and thought it was so well done. This is an author I'll definitely follow to see what they do next. I think I saw another by them but it has not been translated to English.

I really appreciate the spoiler sections, thank you! It took me a while to settle into the story as I expected something else. I liked the second part with the silent sister more. The discussions around inherited paranoia of the descendants of diamond hunters made me think of the insane way colonizer states function and think of themselves as perpetually under attack, while they themselves are the ones dishing out the violence. The father of the sisters was the character I found the most fascinating, especially after we got context from the grandmother about how he ended up as the healer of the community. All in all an atmospheric and thought provoking novel that will stay with me.

Yes! That’s such a good point about colonisers, and so well put! Thank you!

My library didn’t have this book so I requested that they purchase a copy. Glad I did because this was a very well written story that will stay with me for awhile.
