It's not about going from 5th to 1st in one lap. Is about to pass Michael Schumacher, Damon Hill and Alain Prost... in a underpowered car... in one lap... easy like they were backmarkers. Epic stuff.

The unpowered car is easier to handle on a wet track tbh. Chassis and aero were ok on that McLaren, just the engine was awful
@Picus13

@@marcomolinari94 yes exactly easy to handle, that’s why Andretti was out of the race on the first lap.

@@marcomolinari94 Senna was a way superior driver under raining conditions. Monaco, also against Prost, driving for Toleman and Portugal driving a Lotus show how superior he was racing in a wet circuit. Those drivers are on the limit, there's no easier driving coz the car is underpowered. That's nonsense. He wasn't driving a Prius.
@marcomolinari94
@marcomolinari94 2 года назад
@@RoddOzLand 1) the Toleman Monaco 1984 literally proves my point as Senna and Bellof were flying midrace (despite driving cars with fewer power) compared to big teams slowing down or hitting the wall (more power = more difficult to handle the turbolag etc on the wet.. especially around Monaco) 2) i'm not saying Senna was slow on wet races, he was the best in those conditions... I am just saying that an unpowered car is easier to handle. Which is a fact.

Fun fact: it takes him forty seconds after the race starts to move from fifth to second, and another thirty seconds to move to first. And then he keeps going and opens up a gap! But he almost loses it at 1:54. This was also the race where he set a fastest lap by driving full-speed through the pit lane, which you could do back then. He won by almost a minute and a half and was given a Sonic the Hedgehog trophy.

The world was robbed of a decade long racing rivalry. Senna-Shumacher. In wet conditions, Senna could win driving any team's car. I think he was the best ever. RIP Senna.
@Fedeniux
@Fedeniux 4 года назад
Ayrton Senna in his time is only comparable to Niguel Mansell. Mansell was the only driver Senna was concerned about. The only one Senna respected. With Alain Prost there were good battles. But everyone knows that Prost was three steps below Senna. I was seen in Monaco 1988 when I took 55 seconds off Prost. Michael Shumacher was a good driver, who had good cars and for a long time a teammate (Barrichello) who drove alone to help him beat Michael. Ayrton Senna would never have allowed something like that. He wanted to win for himself, being the best. I would never have accepted help from another. Shumacher is not compared. Ayrton's style was certainly much more aggressive and driving to the limit of the car.

In 1989 the normally aspirated engines arrived and many thought that Senna would lose some of his amazing speed without turbos. But Ayrton remained supremely fast in all conditions. While going around corners he still refused to take his foot off the gas pedal, a technique he learned as a kid during his karting years. Ayrton Senna's trust in divine intervention helped him to go faster than he normally could have. Being guided by a higher power enhanced his performance beyond what it would have been without religion. His faith made all the difference. Ayrton had an unshakable belief that he was fulfilling God's will. He prepared himself better than any other driver before, both physically and mentally. He was an innovator in using sport psychology, physical, and mental trainer Nuno Cobra before anyone else in Formula 1. He used techniques to control his breathing and relax when he was becoming over-aroused. These methods allowed him to concentrate at almost superhuman level and get into the zone almost at will during races. Gerhard Berger: Once he was focused he didn't feel any pain or stress. Nothing. Damon Hill: He talked about a state of mind he got into whereby he was there, but not really driving the car. Prost describes how, after a race at Monaco, Ayrton explains how he monitored his performance during the race itself: He managed to visualize from a 'third person' perspective (i.e. as if watching from outside) during the race and corrected his mistakes. Ayrton Senna had the qualities to be the best racing driver of his time, and that is exactly what he was. His tombstone simply reads: 'Nothing can separate me from Gods love'
@otaviofrn_adv

this zone of concentration ensured most of his successes, and even one major loss in a race, Monaco 88. It would've been 7 wins in a row in the place of which he was King despite Monaco being a principality. And it's the reason you cannot tell someone going fast that he needs to slow, he loses the concentration.

When we talk about Senna we automatically remember Prost and we can say the same thing when we talk about Prost. Both were great when they shared McLaren cars in 1988 and 1989. I am a Brazilian and I will never forget Suzuka 1989. Forget the accident, I mean the fact that they both drove a Formula 1 without any electronic control and manual gearbox for 46 laps in the pace of classification, simply incredible. I will never forget! Some of the biggest races I've ever had the pleasure of watching.

The same time Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger died on this Imola weekend back in 1994, the F1 died with them. The drivers were men, Heroes, they knew that their passion was dangerous and could either cost their lives or they could get hurt badly. This times are gone. There is no thrill anymore in this sport. 20 winning Championships of Hamilton wouldn't weight as much as 1 winning Championship back in those days before Senna died.
