Dineva, AB didnt bring up cardi name. DJ Envy randomly just brought up all these questions in regards to Cardi B. AB was on the show to promote her new songs and record deal. I think Azealia's conversation was bigger than Cardi B, but Cardi just happens to be a living, breathing example of the problem. In essence what I got from the Azealia interview was that we're seeing a shift in the narrative of black, female representation. Part of what she was highlighting was the fact that during the time of Lemonade and "A seat at the Table", (granted these are singers) we we're having more intellectual and positive conversations revolving around black women and their art. Then, fast forward to today we've dissolved into this industry machine that is Cardi and her message of being 'real' and 'yourself', when those traits are actively used to keep non-racially ambiguous, black women down (they're simply seen as ghetto, inarticulate and illiterate). I am a fan of both.

I only made it the first 2 minutes and it couldn’t finish because it’s apparent the full interview wasn’t listened to. There’s a difference between someone asking you about someone specifically and just outright speaking about someone. She was able to articulate what she said and had very valid points. I feel You didn’t see Azalea’s interview, bc I finally watched it yesterday. There were a plethora of topics, and messy boots DJ envy brought her up. He asked did you call her this. She said yes, and then asked her why and she elaborated. Ultimately the issue wasn’t with cardi. The larger conversation was about the portrayal of black women and how a darker skinned woman wouldn’t have gotten that successful that fast acting the way she does. It was a good conversation that spilled over into Twitter bc, and i like cardi, cardi didn’t listen or follow what she said. Later on it was about her reading/writing errors, perpetuating gang culture, and so forth. Cardi shouldn’t have responded if she didn’t possess the range to have that conversation

It’s not a big deal anymore and I think that’s part of the problem. It makes it hard for artists who have real content to get recognition.
