As a teenage Filipino girl who grew up in the states, I really appreciate all these videos. It's always made me a bit sad that I can't speak Tagalog or know much about my culture and history, but recently I've been putting a lot of research into these things and your videos have been a great resource. I've been binging your videos for a good hour and a half now. I look forward to watching more of your videos and I love how you project your words and how you make things so easy to understand. It's clear that you put a lot of effort into your videos, so thank you!

I learned to understand a lot of Tagalog from my mom watching Filipino teleseryes with english captions and my family speaking Tagalog. I am by no means fluent and am terrible at grammar, not to mention that I forget a lot of my limited vocabulary. Also my parents and more use shortcut words and a lot of English so it’s even more difficult to learn informally. My brain takes like 5 seconds to remember a certain word and then also my brain translates to english from Tagalog which is inefficient 🤣

For generations the people of the Philippines have known only poverty. We look at western countries and marvel at their wealth and wonder why our country can't advance the way they did. But those rich nations got to where they are because they colonized countless nations, stole their riches to build their own countries. I feel like the history I was taught during my childhood was eurocentric. It didnt really feature our proud history but the might of the Spanish empire.

The Ottoman expedition to Aceh started from around 1565 when the Ottoman Empire endeavoured to support the Aceh Sultanate in its fight against the Portuguese Empire in Melaka. The expedition followed an envoy sent by the Acehnese Sultan Alauddin Riayat Syah al-Kahhar (1539-71) to Suleiman the Magnificent in 1564, and possibly as early as 1562, requesting Ottoman support against the Portuguese.

One that was always left out was that for the Spaniards to successfully siege Brunei, they made an alliance with the 2 Bruneian Cheterias on Sulu, Pengiran Seri Lela and Pengiran Seri Ratna. They promised if Brunei was to be a tributary state to the Spaniards, Pengiran Seri Lela would be the Sultan and Pengiran Seri Ratna would become Pengiran Bendahara, a top Wazir/Visier, that has a power on home affairs

Also, weren't the Portuguese entering this very same area from around Africa, and even created a trading post at Macau? Thanks so much!

Thank you! Yes, the Portuguese were also ptesent in the region. They entered earlier in the century, they conquered the Sultanate of Malacca in 1511 (with help from a multi ethnic coalition, including the Luzones mentioned in this video), which actually paved the way for the Sultanate of Brunei to succeed Malacca in becoming the region's dominant maritime power.

It's wild I thinker we are so used to the history of conflict we assume any contact is due to conflict. For example the sweet potato has always been a staple to Polynesian wayfarers sweet potatoes originate from south America there have also been results found in chicken bones in found by archeologists with the same DNA as the genetic stock of chicken native to Polynesian regions, implying a possibility of trade between the two cultures. It's possible even certain information could've been shared fundamentally with each other that lead to the growth of similar concepts among their respective cultures like ideas of astronomy and the use of certain tools leading to development of different techniques for example

So there could be Mexicans, or other American tribes fighting for the Spanish Empire, but no Aztec at all... The same thing for the Inca and the Quechua people. Interesting...I do alot of research of genealogy on the Island of Guam where I am from and reside. We too were ruled by Spain from 1500's to 1899 since the arrival of Ferdinand Magellan. I am learning numerous Spanish Soldiers from the Philippines and numerous Filipino's from 1700's to 1899 were sent or exiled from the Philippines to the Island of Guam. We surely seem to have alot of history and bloodline connection during the era from the 1700's to 1899. I am interested to hopefully find more info of possible two brothers who arrived on Guam in 1710 named Juan Blas deCortes and later 1725 a Jose Blas deCortes who both resettled on Guam from Pampanga, Philippines. It is recorded 1756 that Jose reveresed his name and became JOSE CORTES BLAS on Guam who is the Patriarch of all BLAS CLAN today on Guam. Indeed, we surely have alot of bloodline connection between Philippines and Guam including numerous Spaniards arrived on Guam from MEXICO and SPAIN from 1600's to 1700's.

I think difference between Spanish and Ottomans,Spanish didn’t mind how many they killed so brutalities made Filipinos surrounded. For Ottomans it was more important to introduce the religion win by conversion. If they wanted to be brutal it would have been totally different story. In the end Ottomans were slightly closer than Spanish geographically
Год назад
Spaniards wanted to use the Philippines for trading, they didn't see it as a colony to populate like the Americas, and the Catholic priests there preferred to learn the local languages instead of pushing Spanish. So, in fact, the Spaniards weren't as brutal as many think (very common of the black legend).

Aztecs & other tribes of Native American Indians are suspected to be related to ancient Austronesians. Ancient Austronesians have sailed as far as Easter Island of Pacific near Chile & Peru in Latin America, some 5,000 years ago. Filipinos are Austronesians. They could be related, that may have been separated thru time & geographical constraints. But got together again from Spanish colonization of Mexico & the Americas.

The correct term for these Kingdoms who have interconnections but are also independent from one another should be "client state" or "satrapy".

China is also a colonizer. It became an Empire by colonizing its neighbors. From Romance of the Three Kingdoms in 184 Ad to China Empire ruled by CCP today. China is the mirror-copy, rival, opponent of Western powers in Asia.

Nobody messed up with sixteen hundred Spanish empire and Felipe II. And Muslim faith did not expand and Filipinos remain mostly catholic, watching telenovelas, and eating pork chicharon!
