That is a nice looking kit to be 3D printed. I don't see all those lines you typically see with the printed stuff but it may be because it's white. You got a lot done in week one Lou, looking forward to week 2.

Tongue held at correct angle while grinding off part id tab on landing gear doors - the mark of a true craftsman. The team at Cozmic Models make quality products. I would order more from Cozmic but the import duty and fees on this type of good between UK and CH is exorbitant.

I remember that in episode of new Battlestar Galactica named Scar, you can see two of landrams mining asteroid under mining ship, and they have vertical line of red and gold in the right middle and are entirely metallic grey with two rows of lights: one short on top and one devided in two as headlights.

Wooo-- Back in the day, this one ship was so different from everything else, it appeared it was Father/Son Day in the model shop... (Father/Daughter Day). I really liked it a lot. The Battlestar itself was the stand out-- love it, this design is a close second but those vipers were miserable. The choice not to light seems obvious, that turns a complex 3D set of shaped parts into a battling snake pit of wiring. BUT! then it seemed like the next obvious thing would be to open up that rear hatch. A different fight, to be sure but one I like the sound of. The still shots showing off those figures are jaw dropping-- I know high-resolution printing is a thing but I didn't think it would be in our hands so soon. An awful lot of design time is in these print files. A rather remarkable kit and you're doing a neat, stellar job of rendering it real.

@michaelbenjmitchell1
@michaelbenjmitchell1 3 года назад
well they did go different on the vipers the MkVII Viper actually looked like the Delta Flyer in a way. Though some of the Auxillary ships and parts of the Rag Tag fleet could have gone with a more original design though.

And the Land Ram design is also based on the original Star Trek TOS shuttles since it looks like the Shuttle Galileo with tracks instead of engine pylons.

Watching you fuss about a railing for the stairwell (agreed, deathtrap). Could've simply closed the hole in the floor (moved seats around) and put a railing-and-stairs on the other side of the 'guarded' rear hatch a la on the Bus in Agents of SHIELD (dual access to the cargo deck instead of single access). Cut the hatch out so it's 'open' and more display details you'd need a removable top to enjoy. :) And am I seeing it wrong, or is the upper floor (engine room's gotta be somewhere) too low for the landrams to get out the rear hatch? (Maybe a removable _upper deck_ to make room for all the unseen detail? :) Oh, and you could've practiced with the Tamiya putty by putting hair on some of the crew figures. :)

I wonder if they messed up the scale somewhat because on the full size filming prop they actually drove the track with the gun turret on top out of the shuttle in the episode Ice Planet Zero.

Great vid as usual. Very practical detailing for very flat vertical/sloped/horizontal surfaces. Ok - a couple of comments though - being that I don't quite remember the interior of this ship, or the ship for that matter ( I just remember the first version), why don't you just create a short wall around the stair well opening. It could have been a detail that could have been easily overlook due to the action focusing on the actors, most likely at the controls and the frequency that the model was featured. If it had been front and center on every show you could tell but I don't think it got that much viewership. Also - There were seat belts after a fashion the new Enterprise from "TMP" and the "Excelsior". They show the crew flipping over their armrests to act as as restraints.

Really nice model! I´m curious about the scale though. I realise it´s a 1/72 scale, but when the pilots are in your hand they look to big for 1/72. They look more like 1/48 ( although that could be because my eyes are old and bent...) Could you comment on that? I ask because I do a lot of 1/42 - 1/48 builds, and if this model works visually on that scale range I would save up and buy one. Thanks for the video. I love your channel! Regards, Swami

@richard martin the razor crest i printed is 12 inches long. but it is also wildly inaccurate. I wouldn't trust it's proportions, either. The one Round 2 is doing will be much more accurate and a true 1/72 scale
@markfergerson2145
@markfergerson2145 3 года назад
Couple things- would jeweler's files get into those printed-in parts numbers on the landing gear doors? Would shaving the sockets the hull-half pins go into (and maybe those arched ribs) just a little bit reduce the gap or maybe eliminate it entirely? Also, congrats on the safety rail for the stairs exactly fitting between the flags. Clearly you planned that. ;>) Overall, great build of one of my all-time fave SF ships/shuttles.

Looking good Lou, the only thing that I saw that was wrong with the painting was the landing gear bays. Landing gear bays are always painted pure white on any aircraft.
@fritzthefox
@fritzthefox 3 года назад
This is not true at all. Landing gear bays are often treated just like other structural spaces by aircraft manufacturers, and painted in primer. In the USA during ww2, that was zinc chromate, which could appear as yellow-green or green. For many nations, it was/is grey. On modern aircraft, white is preferred, but it is certainly not universal. All of which is irrelevant to a scifi spaceship in a fictional universe pre-dating Earth's ice age.
@rogerstephens2749

Just a tip to remove the identifying tag on the landing gear doors. Lou, I really enjoy this channel, but I think you need to take a short break and clean your brain out a bit. How much complaining are you going to do? He made a fine kit. You couldn't have added putty to the lettering and made a greeble motor panel or something on the door flaps? or cut the tread section and reattached it on the land rams? At times, your standards are higher than those of the original model makers. It felt the same with the Grissom kit. It isn't your changing things to suit you that I am talking about. It's that I watch these to see you make amazing stuff, not to tell off everyone who makes kits. They can't all be Bandai or ILM. It's not the substance of your critiques, it's the tone. You are getting negative, and one of the reasons I enjoy this channel is that you aren't generally negative. That said, I still like watching you work, and I'll still be looking forward to seeing new videos. Peace!
