Woww!! Joshua, that's so awesome that you're enjoying these videos! I wasn't sure how receptive folks would be to these long videos, but so far I've been receiving very positive feedback. I really appreciate it!
Congrats again on 1000 subs! Thanks for bringing us along on this cactus nursery trip - I'm jealous of the variety you can get over there compared to our UK nurseries. 🌵👏
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed this trip to B & B! I'm still jealous of those Copiapoa you showed at Cactusland. Besides the prices, I can't even find a nursery that carries Copiapoa of that size and variety at nurseries here. Hence why I'm growing them myself instead lol
Wish they would have had nurseries like this when I lived there in the 70s! I'm bot sure if any cactus nurseries were around back then. Great place!!! Nice Euphorbias!!! Yes, I just learned recently that echinofossulocactus has Been put in with stenocactus. So yes they are the same, a synonym if you will. Thanks for sharing the tour!!! I would lose a lot of money there!! Hahaha!!! 🤣👍🌵 Great place!!! From Morris Park in the Ozarks, out to Arizona, have a great evening!!! Peace, Love, Plants!!!!✌️💖🌵🥀🌳🏵🌿🌸🌱🌷🌲🌹🌴🌾🌻🪴💐🍀😃👍
Hello Clyde! I'm a huge fan! I've been watching your videos since I was new to cactus, back when Cookie's Cacti didn't exist. Gosh, I get so confused with the changing genus names, but as long as you know what I'm talking about then we're all good! These places tempt me so much, oh my gosh.... as I edit my videos and watch back I notice plants that I missed while I was there... I guess that means I'll just have to go back lol!
I appreciate that you took us along with you on this shopping trip to B & B. I will probably never get to experience seeing many of these plants in person. The large specimens in the greenhouse were spectacular. In order to purchase cacti here in central Florida we have to attend the yearly sales by the several cactus growers and their collections are nowhere near as extensive as those in Arizona and the plant are usually smaller. Thank you and congratulations.
You have to come visit Arizona, Carolyn! (And bring a truck lol). B&B is such a lovely nursery. I would go more often if it were closer but it's probably better that it's just slightly too far away... otherwise...
Thank you Jenny for a lovely video, I really enjoyed this one. As you said it, B&B has much better selection of plants on offer than Bach's nursery - I could be persuaded to acquire some of the specimens 😄. One thing I find interesting is that there are no Astrophytum offered for sale (there is a possibility I overlooked them), especially since they appear to be extremely popular among collectors these days. Congratulations on your 1000th subscriber and best regards, Nino
I'm so glad you enjoyed this one, Nino! I'm very curious, which specimens caught your eye? You know, it also caught my attention that they have very few Astrophytum to offer. Bach's and Arizona Cactus Sales definitely had more Astros. I guess each nursery has a different emphasis, as we're seeing with these various nursery videos. There are two more nurseries in Tucson that I'd like to record at some point, each also offering their own flavor of plant inventory. It's fun to see how different each nursery is from each other.
I agree! There are so many beautiful Notocactus/Parodia and they're very affordable and low maintenance - just lovely plants. I guess that's a good thing that they're underrated so that they can still be enjoyed without costing an arm and a leg!
Thank you for suggesting this wonderful way to celebrate, Anders! I will do a plant haul video next to show which ones I couldn't resist taking home. P.S. I agree - a day with Mom is always lovely. This was her first time at this nursery and she enjoyed it very much too.
You don't know how happy this makes me to read your comment! I'm so glad you enjoy this video! How's the cactus growing in New Zealand? Are there local nurseries and growers?
Is there a weird plant sale at the Tucson Botanical Garden I don't know about?? I may have lost track of comments at some point, doh! That is one garden I have on my to-do list. I'm so glad you enjoy the videos, Millie! Cookie says "meow!"
Watching this on 724-24. Thinking how unfair life is that we don't have a cactus greenhouse like this in Virginia. On the other hand, i probably would be in the poorhouse if we did have one nearby. Instead of going to the nighclubs every weekend, i would be going to the greenhouse, if we had some with this marvelous selection. 😂 Thank you for doing these marvelous cactus shopping videos. ❤
You're coming back to the oldies, Lori! Love it! Thank goodness these nurseries are in Tucson and not Phoenix. That 1.5-2 hr buffer zone protects my wallet 😂😂😂
If I ever worked at a cactus nursery, I would starve and my house would foreclose because all the money I earn would just go to buying plants LOLOLOLOLOL
Newman! I'm so glad you enjoyed this shopping trip. This trip opened my eyes on the wonderful variety of plants B & B carries... plants that I didn't appreciate during my visit two years ago. This trip also showed me that there's a huge genera of plants that I am still under-appreciating due to sheer lack of familiarity. I guess that means there's so much more to go with this wonderful obsession!
Hey Jenny, my name is Pauline I have many cactuses and succulents and I’m never sure where to put them in the sun and what soil to grow them in if you could advise mean that would be great
🤣🤣🤣 I love this. Oven season is finally nearing the end. I haven't been to any of the Tucson nurseries since it got so crazy hot. Almost time to revisit many of these nurseries!
I don't know! Lol. Some cactus seem to be fine being root bound, others may benefit by having more room to grow. I've always wondered how people repot really big clusters. It looks so hard!
You might be able to grow them in Florida! There's a nursery called Paradise Found in Sarasota that sells many types of desert plants and East Coast Camanchaca @RareCactus on RU-vid who I believe is based in Miami. There's hope!
The silver torch is absolutely stunning here! I wish they had an online site to purchase from. Thanks for walking through all of these I wish I were there as well.
I wish they had an online shop too... but also kind of wish they don't start an online shop at the same time (for the sake of the wallet) LOL! I'm so happy that you enjoyed this shopping trip! I haven't been back there since I recorded this video almost a year ago, maybe it's time to revisit...
I'm so glad you enjoyed this tour! My longest video to date lol. I did a follow-up plant haul video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3c4xhph46Og.html
Wow, thank you for sharing. Loved the walked-around-the-greenhouse show and tell 😊 I’m from the tropics side of the planet but I’m in love with cacti’s and succulents and caudiciform plants. I’m in plant heaven right now. Just discovered your YT channel 😊
I'm so glad you enjoyed this shopping trip! I've been itching to do another shopping video but it has been way too hot to spend extended amounts of time outdoors. We're finally starting to cool down but then other things get in the way, but eventually I'll make it down to Tucson again!
Also a nearly ~2 hr drive for me from Tempe...I have gone often to the nurseries there in Tucson & am a 20 Yr member of Desert Survivors terrific Native Plant Survey. This B & B nursery (which actually supplies other nurseries up here) is fantastic & the Owners are wonderful. Love B & B !
Ah-ha! That may explain why the way some pots at other nurseries look familiar. I'm always super curious about the suppliers and growers of the plants that are sold in different retail plant spots. I love B&B too!
I’m very lucky, my house is close to B&B nursery , is like 15 minutes from my house. I just found your channel and I’m very happy about it, is the first channel I have found in Arizona about cactus. Thank you I will continue watching your videos.💚🌵🌵💚😍
You are very lucky to be so close to B&B! I would be in big trouble if I lived that close 😂. I'm so glad you enjoy my videos and the fact that we're both in Arizona. I really appreciate the comment! It encourages me to keep going
Very true, when there are so many plants available and I can only spend so much time recording the focus naturally goes towards my personal plant preference because I can't cover everything in a reasonable amount of time. I'm glad you made the suggestion though, I will keep your request in mind next time I make a shopping video.
Thank you for sharing this video, I've enjoyed all of your videos, keep them coming! I especially like B&B. The owner, Mark Sitter and his staff are very helpful and knowledgeable and it is always a treat to visit his nursery. Your video really makes me want to get back there, soon....
You're very welcome! I'm so glad you enjoyed this video, it encourages me to keep going. I wish I lived closer to B&B but I'm also glad there's a buffer lol. I wonder if it was Mark who ID'd my plants for me. They are all super helpful and kind.
Hi now came across this video. The plants are absolutely gorgeous.....just cant find the words to discribe these plants""" cactus and succulents ...just emaculate. Keep the gd works up and God bless
I'm so glad you enjoyed the tour, Lupita! Yes, I'm planning to do a plant haul video next. I bought a few things from Bach's and Arizona Cactus Sales over the winter break, so I'll include those too. Stay tuned!
That's too bad... do you have places you like to go to find the more mature plants? I guess our only option is to buy young plants and grow them mature. Or perhaps for the right price anything could be for sale??
@@maryevelyn3059 totally understand! I would be really annoyed too. Gosh, when I saw your comment it bugged me so much. Now I have TUCSON forever imprinted in my brain!
Thank you so much, Terry This trip is making me want to go back already LOL! It requires devoting an entire day though.... definitely a good thing that it's just out of reach... or my wallet will definitely complain!
A cephalium is the hairy/wooly/bristly growth on some cactus that flowers grow out of when plants are mature enough. The most identifiable one would be that "cap" that grows out of the top of mature Melocactus where flowers grow from.
Gosh I wish I could! Maybe I'll slowly work up the length of the videos until I can create a video that shows everything. Let's see how it goes... And it would be a dream to have my own nursery. Maybe a little side passion business someday.
I have not, appreciate the idea! I don't have a large number of aloes in my little plant family but aloes and agave were one of my first loves. Hmmmm maybe I can do a video on them...
If you're referring to that big haseltoniana clump I was eager to see again, that plant is not for sale. It's part of the nursery's private collection.
@@sixpackyoung9698 oh cool! I think they had some hypogea and/or humilis for sale at the time I recorded this video back in January. I'd recommend giving them a call to check. All the mature, large Copiapoa specimens in the beginning of the video were part of their private collection though.
@@norbertocarcamo7364 Darn! I've virtually met some cactus lovers from Florida but maybe not Miami. I imagine the cactus can love the humidity. I'm always amazed to see the amazing cactus growers based in Thailand.
Thank you so much for going on this shopping trip with me, Tom! I wish I could catch every pot, label, and price on camera but gosh there just isn't enough time. Hopefully, a sampling was adequate.
Great video. I think California may block plants from outside state because I have not seen a big, good quality, cactus shop, in 35 years. My only visit to Arizona was when you had snow last February and everything closes. Thank you and onward to 2k
Thank you, Steve! Which part of California are you at,? I've heard that southern California has some nice nurseries, but I'm not sure how large they are. I hope I can visit them someday to see what they are like. More to the north side of California, I've heard of Poot's.
@@cookiescacti Yes, I live in Tucson. It is on the other side of town, so we had a long drive but worth it. Lol I found Monkeys tail there so I was super excited about that 😂.
Can you imagine if we lived within 10 minutes of B&B? HUGE TROUBLE!! Monkeys tail are so much fun, I have one pot and they seem to be pretty easy to care for too, so another huge plus.
Just found your channel and it's a good watch. I really like the pan shots showing the long greenhouse landscapes full of plants, the silhouettes of the mature plants in the back corners are just beautiful. It makes me want to go fuss over my small collection and get some more this spring. One of these days it's a goal to take a shopping trip to Arizona as the cactus nurseries seem like a cut above the norm in other states. It's also nice to see so many spiny cacti, succulents have pushed some of the availability off the benches in CA from what I've seen.
Thank you so much! I also get inspired every time I visit these professional nurseries and gardens. I come home and stare at what I'm growing and think about all the potential. Are you in California? You should definitely take a trip out here and visit the nurseries. You'll have an absolute blast! I'm hoping to take a trip to Southern California someday to visit the nurseries out there too.
@@cookiescacti HI! thanks I'm so enjoying the videos. I actually left the dumb comment about the succulents before I got halfway through the video, lol. I didn't mean to put succulents down as I like them too. These days I live in damp coastal OR but spent most of my life in central CA and remember during the 80's-90's cactus were a huge collector's thing and succulents were around to a lesser degree, now it seems like things have flipped. I still have a few spiny cactus, but other than one Mamm they don't get enough light to bloom. My succulent collection is doing much better and I must have about 40 outdoor, semi-outdoor, and houseplant types which I'm looking to expand on. I'd love nothing more than to take a long trip through the SW US someday and see a real cactus nursery again and pick up a few things that aren't in a 2" pot, esp in winter! -
I grew up in Oregon! I still have family in the Portland area. It's funny, I sent my brother home with a Saguaro that grew from seed. It's really interesting to see how that seedling grows compared to the ones I have here. He's kept it alive though!
In Phoenix the soft leaf succulents do terrible... unless they're kept indoors during the hottest part of summer. I learned the hard way. As soon as those overnight lows stay above 80-85F they just keel over and die (the other plants hate it too). I get jealous when I see folks in cooler parts of the country have those beautiful, colorful, soft leaf succulents thriving!
