I just watched your 4 part assembly video, thanks for making them it helped a lot. I was hoping you could make a video on how to change out certain gears in order to get a short ratio setup?
When you press on the synchro hubs and gears, how do you know when to stop pressing, manual says 14,000 to 19,000 pounds but Not sure how to measure that?
shooting for luck i have a y80 trans i have probably m factory.when i remove the casing i have 3 shims total do i have to put a shim where it hook up to the engine or just don't install it plus do i need to install the two shim on the other side.i have sealed bearing with the lsd tmb-208cz and tappered bearing on the stock one pls help getting hard time mounting the case together always have gap like few mm don't have any special tools to measure the shim or the bearing
Installed all new bearings in my trans. Now the carrier/diff sits ever-so-slightly higher, causing gear teeth rubbing between secondary shaft and diff gears. Can't figure why. All new OEM bearings. Maybe it's possible the new diff bearing (lower one) is a few thousandths thicker? I can't use the OEM shim that's in the case, otherwise it'll rub. I gotta re shim it.
Jason Ricci Anything is possible, but most bearings are precision ground tobreally tight tolerances. Are the bearings fully seated on the Diff? Were the mating surfaces cleaned before assembly?
hello is the thrust clearence only necessary when you are installing a different differential? I am rebuilding my Trans with oem parts but don't have those tools or know.how to use them!
when checking for differential thrust play wouldn't leaving out the rtv effect your results? I know thats counter intuitive but seems like that would change the outcome
Hey im going to rebuild my pk6 gearbox from an vauxhall vivaro -03. I i found most of the information that i need except the thrustplay on the diff and input shaft :( Do you know the gearbox im taking about and the thrustplay? :)
+BengT I'm a Honda guy so I am not familiar with that transmission. You need to put the differential in the case and use a dial indicator to check the thrust play. take your measurement and subtract the spec from the manual and that is what size shim you need. Shim it and recheck the thrust clearance. Take and the diff and put in the shafts and check them with the same process.
Hey my transmission is hard to put into reverse it takes a couple of tries what can this be also my 3rd gear grinds how could I fix these things at home and how much would it be and also how much would it be if I take it to a shop?
+Jorge velez It could be a bunch of different things. Clutch, clutch master of slave cylinder, reverse gear sleeve/hub, syncro etc. Rebuilding a transmission properly is time consuming and very tedious work. The price will totally depend on what is wrong with it.
