Vocals by then-20--year-old Robert Plant. These guys are the GOATs. This is a wide, deep, eclectic, epic rabbit hole.

This is one of the greatest albums of all time. I mean, every damned song is an absolute BANGER. And then you consider they recorded it when they were 19-20 years old and I just feel... really unaccomplished.

One of the characteristics of Zeppelin that Jimmy Page envisioned when he formed the band was that there would be an emphasis on “texture” in the music. He called it “light and shade”. A play of soft and loud, gentle and harsh, clear and distorted, acoustic and electric. This song is a perfect example…soft snd gentle at first. Then the thunder arrives. This was not common at the time and was influential.

Zeppelin is god-tier. Those four guys got together and created an alchemical mix of legendary rock music.

The Book Jimmy Page: Light and Shade actually refers to what Jimmy like to do in his compositions like this song where he goes soft - and then heavy and back again. You can find this pattern throughout Zeppelin's catalogue.

When I heard this song, early in my Zeppelin Fan career, I decided the name of it should be "Babe, I'm Gonna Listen to the Rest of Your Damn Albums!!" Every note works, and many of them work wonders!

Man, can Robert Plant emote with his voice, or what? Jimmy Page (guitarist) said he wanted this song to have a lot of "light and shade". Those are the "waves" you referred to reflecting the man's inner turmoil over feeling the need to go off on his own for a while and do some "rambling" and not wanting to leave his love, trying to assure her he'll be back. Fabulous song, and I appreciate that you didn't interrupt it allowing yourself to go on the journey from start to finish. Also glad to hear that you've decided to react to all the tracks on their debut album. Hopefully, you won't stop there. ;) A bit of info. if you aren't aware: Before the band formed, Page (guitar) and Jones (keys/bass) knew each other and Plant (vocals) and Bonham (drums) knew each other, but they didn't all four meet until August of 1968. They immediately went on tour, if you can believe that, and started recording this album when they returned. It was recorded in 36 hours over a three week period during September/October. That's just how good they were from the very beginning. No other rock band like them.

Nice reaction. To put this in some kind of reference, Zeppelin first formed August 12th, 1968, and in just 5 months January 12, 1969, they released Zeppelin 1. Even more, they recorded and mixed the album in less than 36 hours. Imagine a group today doing that. Great album, especially for how quick they accomplished this and tells you of great things to come.

1969.…. 15 years old… Buy new Led Zeppelin album. With 4 friends pass around two pipes and a bong…. Listen to the album and change our lives forever. I had these experiences often back in those day…. Beatles, Stones, Who, Pink Floyd, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Byrds and many more. The Greatest Music In History

It’s just still almost unbelievable to me that Plant was only 20 years old when they recorded this song. So talented. In my twenties I couldn’t even appreciate their music yet, while they had such talent and maturity to create this classic.

Zeppelin is a master of dynamics. This wasn’t even the “current state of rock” in 1969. Just check out the Joan Baez or original version for that comparison. Anyways Zeppelin is a singular musical journey… enjoy. PS. Check out Dazed and Confused or How Many More Times from this same album.

What a great reaction to a fantastic song man. This is long been one of my favorites. First time I ever heard it I was with my first girlfriend and we were out at the park and she was driving because she was 2 years older than me, hey we're just twist a little something and we were meeting up with our friends there. And we went out to play Frisbee we grabbed an orange frisbee out of her trunk or maybe it was underneath the passenger seat and we were just starting to toss it around just waiting for people and loving being outside and it's beautiful afternoon sunshine in junior high, and then this song came on the radio. And she had a pretty good system in her car so she went in there and opened both doors and cranked it to the max so it was booming through this park and probably easily heard at least half a block away if not a block away. Back then we didn't have subwoofers so you know. And when this song came on oh my. It was just so powerful, we dropped the Frisbee leaned against the back of her car and just started making out because it's just so powerful that way. And then we would alternately dance face to face with a lot of energy and then go back to making out in the slow parts. One of the best memories of my life for sure. This band will always have an extremely special place in my heart for sure. Glad you are covering them.

As I tell everyone that Reacts to this Particular Zep song. This is ZEPPELIN'S RENDITION of a JOAN BIAZ song from the Late 50's. It's Loosely based on a Story of a Soldier being Called away to WAR! But he AGONIZES about Having e Leave His Lady! And No! Nobody is doing this Kind of Music 🎶 any longer!

if you analyze the lyrics you will find the tempo changes match with his inner conflict. soft bluesy tempo is the part where he is saying he has to leave, the faster tempo he is saying he's never gonna leave. the two sides come together in the end saying he doesn't want to leave he has to.

Unfortunately, this is *NOT* the current state of rock! Not by a light-year. Those days have been gone a long time. It was called the Golden Age for a good reason. From the mid-late '60s until the end of the '70s. Never to be repeated and this band never to be surpassed. It's the electronic music age now.

Think about the first two songs ever delivered to their audience? They are so different it is not funny and both are great songs. Pretty much sums up their whole career. Easily the greatest rock band ever...how do i know? I'm a fan of all the other bands that are in the mix too, and they still don't get close.
