Every time I hear this beautiful Thumri, I get surprises like this is really out of this world…Beautiful voice and violin accompaniment… Hindustani Music is so divine and soulful.
What a soul-stirring rendition! Brought me back to the evening when Shobha Gurtu sang with tears rolling down her eyes at a private gathering over a decade back. Allisha thanx and all the best. Subramaniam has backed you like only he can.
I'm glad somebody here knows that the writer and composer of this soulful thumri is non-other than Nawab Wajid Ali Shah. Thank you Kareem Wahid for sharing this.
Great.Have not heard since long time such a fine version of this immortal creation of Nawab Vajid Ali Shah.Wonderfully rendered by this unknown singer.Simply Awesome n cut above.👍👍👍👌
I have been looking for this song over a decade now. It first came to my attention in 2003. Being addicted with this since then. So deep and breathe-taking giving me the whole bible of displacement/detachment/feeling of losing something. I made that journey but I couldn't came out of it completely.
This is one of a superb version than Girija Devi' s rendition. Because after marriage girls leave their parents house and heads to their beloved partner, so it can't be considered as death. It's a marvelous occasion all over the world.
As Wajid Ali Shah was forced to leave Awadh by British Raj and he expressed his deep feelings of leaving Awadh rendered his pain in this Thumri, similarly the whole Indians of Northern and Eastern India passed through the same phase in 1947 by the conspiracy of the same British Raj which no body realises after 70 years of independence.
The Hammering of the residency in Lucknow during 1857 is probably justified now, with the pain in this song which reverberates across centuries brings across a sense of fin.
