Here is Nature at it's BEST. Watch the baby chicks struggle to get out of their shells. It's amazing how hard they have to work to free themselves, and hatch out.
The eggs have been in the incubator for 21 days, and the baby chicks are hatching out. Here is some great, up close video of the cutest chicks you've ever seen.
Check it out !
Take care,
alan

I use a non dripping water bottle for my chicks. It really saves a lot of mess from the shavings getting into the water.

I raised little chicks from the time they were, maybe, a week old. Now they are 6 months. Now for eggs, since it's hard to tell if they are fertilized other than the grown chicken is sitting on them keeping them warm, how can you tell if they are fertilized. I waiting 21 days once and those eggs were no good. She has a second bathch, I marked them with a marker....like a dot. And any eggs after that are in my refrigerator. I'm thinking if they were fertilized they won't "grow" into chicks if they're cooled at 35 degrees. So is this the right way of separating eggs you want to keep and those you don't.
@BIGALTX
@BIGALTX 6 лет назад
Don't refrigerate eggs that you want to incubate. You can "Candle" the eggs to see if they are fertile... I've seen it done, but I don't know how.
@CCR-ew6ke
@CCR-ew6ke 6 лет назад
Right, the ones in the 'fridge are not meant to incubate into chicks. Anyway the ones I marked are getting ready to hatch. I see a few eggs starting to crack and I can hear them chirpin'.

i love to see baby chicks but just tell me one thing did you separate them from there mother because if you did they would die if you separate them when there young they'd die and if you get them from the store they separated them from there mother when there where young and they die sometimes when you bring them home
@BIGALTX
@BIGALTX Год назад
Baby chicks really don't need a "mother" when they're born They just need warmth, water and feed The vast majority of chickens were not raised by a mother.

I'd give anything for one broody hen. I have all the eggs I'll need for a long time from only 4 hens. I was hoping one of them would be broody but I'm out of luck. I guess I'll have to incubate some eggs so I can have meat chickens! Darn it!

You should be misting the eggs so that they don't dry out while they are trying to get out. They can get stuck inside of their shell if you don't keep them moist.
@BIGALTX
@BIGALTX 9 лет назад
Vicki Olson There is a "well" inside the incubator for water that I kept filled during the 21 day process... but yes... misting them would be a GREAT idea... I'll do that next time... thanx
@vickiolson1198
@vickiolson1198 9 лет назад
Yes, it is always best to mist each time the door is opened during the hatching process as the act of opening the door removes much of the moisture from the air and the humidity has to then build up again. Misting helps keep the membrane that lines the egg, just under the shell from drying out and sticking to the feathers of the baby chick. Thanks for your most gracious response.
@BIGALTX
@BIGALTX 9 лет назад
Vicki Olson I try to learn something new every day... you were my teacher for Saturday :)... and ... I'll definitely try to remember to spritz them the next time I hatch...thanks again,alan

@BIGALTX
@BIGALTX 5 лет назад
I think the lid of the incubator stays on till they start to hatch... then it comes off.
@kylie554
@kylie554 4 года назад
The lid is suppose to stay on until all are hatched. The cold air rushing in can "shrink wrap" them which is essentially just the membrane hardening which makes it impossible for them to hatch. Not always the case, but better safe then sorry
