It's true Longclaw didn't get much development which is a little bit of a shame but I do think what they went with in the final cut was better because it explains both Sonic's loneliness and even more so his reluctance to be spotted by anyone better, which is what lead to him going a bit crazy. It made the baseball field scene have more emotional impact imo. I'm guessing that's part of why they cut the second part of this scene and altered it a bit.
The only problem is either version leads to problems. The opening we got feels rushed and not well utilized-to a point that longclaw just exists and then is thrown out of the film-but if she is in the film it bogs down the pace and it doesnt get to the point of how sonic ended up alone so she shouldn't have gone with him to earth-we should have gotten more time with them on sonics version of green hills to see his relationship with her-even one scene with just them talking about his situation and being wise like sonic puts it being his "obi wan kenobi" when in the film we dont see any of it-we are told it right before she is whisked away. Sadly both versions have issues but i have to admit-getting more to the point and quickly showing sonic becoming lonely on a new world is more meaningful to his character and keeps the focus on him and the characters he is going to meet-so i prefer the one we got but i feel there could have been a better compromise as i mentioned between the two versions to have us care more about longclaw and that way its all the more tragic when they must seperate never to see each other again and sonic to be lonely.
@@danielledoeswhat would be neat-hell tails showing up might imply longclaw sent tails to find sonic or something. Plus even if so-it still doesnt make her role in the first film any better still
EquestrianAngel:Curt That’s true. And yet, if a rumor goes around of learning more about the character in a sequel, that might bring curious people in to see it. In order to get that information, you have to watch that sequel. A good marketing tool, I’d wager.
I would have been happy to see more of LongClaw, but if we had the other opening, I think the story would have been a lot different, maybe too much, there would have been no real reasons for Sonic to meet the humans, it's good that they changed it to the one in the actual movie
Agreed-but there could be a compromise between the two-a scene before the echidnas show up so we can see her being as sonic puts it-his obi wan kenobi-we dont get to see that before she is whisked away-but in the new version we get to see his sudden loneliness and having to stay by himself-it gets to the point-sonic and his separation from anyone who he could have companionship with. The old one helps us feel more for longclaw while the new one keeps the focus more on sonic-i prefer the one we got now seeing the alterative-but there is a perfect blend between the two somewhere where we get another scene with baby sonic and longclaw before anyone shows up to take sonic
I like the final cut, but I would've liked to have seen more of Longclaw and Sonic together before they were separated. But there's a possibility that Longclaw's still alive. There'll always be a chance that she escapes the Echidna tribe. I'd like to see her in the sequel, I'm not sure what she'd be doing, but I'd like to see Sonic be reunited with her if possible. :3
I always knew that Gens' Green Hill was a big reference point for the movie; but I was not expecting to see the actual models from Generations being used as placeholders. Really interesting.
I really would’ve liked to have seen more of Longclaw raising Sonic and teaching him to use his powers. Although her dying of old age might’ve been too melancholic and sad for the final film. On the plus side, since her fate in the final version was left up in the air she could still come back. Maybe she was even the one who sent Tails to look for him in the sequel?
And to further confirm this tails said nothing that teased him working with the echidnas hell it sounded like something was coming and was hoping he wasn’t to late on informing sonic
Not gonna lie, i like the original concept of having longclaw go with sonic to earth. The one we got was way too...fast. We barely see any interaction between longclaw and sonic. I saw some of the other deleted scenes and it makes longclaw actually feel like a character. Though, i kinda understand why they changed the concept/story of her and sonic.
I feel they both are flawed- the original one they had takes waaaay too much time away from sonic and his isolation making us not really get his position on being so lonely-even if we get to see as sonic puts it his "obi wan kenobi" being motherly and wise-but takes away from the heart of the film-the one we got gets straight to the point and keeps the focus on sonic and his sudden isolation from anyone he could have companionship with. I actually prefer the one we got after seeing the alternative. But there is a perfect blend of the two somewhere-honestly a scene with baby sonic and longclaw before the echidnas show up would have been perfect.
@@fireblade696 maybe-but we cant be sure and it doesnt make her role any better in the first film. I mean hell she could have been the one who sent tails after sonic at the end of the film. Id easily make a bet on that.
@@algalax2 well maybe not-we could be surprised and perhaps see the echindas be the one looking for him-perhaps they are extinct now and knuckles gets introduced with some tragedy coming to sonics homeworld and needing to come back to save it-knuckles hearing of sonic from his ancestors and tails gets word. I mean with the echidnas being a thing thats also a possibility
Steemii I mean... it is Green Hill. I guess they wanted to make it look as natural and real as possible, which Generations also did, so there’s undoubtedly gonna be similarities, even in the unfinished render lol
Oh yeah Hotshot where is the old Tales design at come on speak up where is he because fun fact you can even say it's an April Fool's joke for all I care because THERE IS NONE!!!
Originally Sonic is going to turn super Sonic but they scraped it. And the first 2019 trailer, Sonic said he is going to save planet earth so that means their is a big bad villain wants to conquer earth
Well it WAS an early render for real time animation. Those are uncanny in general. But it's also pre rework sonic sooooo... yeah it'd be creepy as all hell.
@@bluerious5475 Oh so somehow Knuckles would suddenly just grow numbs out of nowhere? And from what I've heard, i thought knuckle's tribe went extinct, and knuckles is old as sonic, well a year difference though.
Meme Meme I said nothing about Knuckles’ numbs, and also yeah but this takes place in the past before their extinction I’m pretty sure. If you watch the movie, it’s an entire tribe of echidnas, not Knuckles.
@@bluerious5475 Wait, i thought Knuckles was the only echidna left though. And yes it's a tribe but their marks are similar to the tribe tikal was in. And he said he was the last one too. And i know you didn't say nothing about Knuckles numbs, but since he is in the same tribe somehow they didn't give him actual gloves in the beginning? And if they gave the tribe fingers, no doubt they would give it to knuckles if he was planned too, since, they are literally from the same group. I will admit, i mis-worded it (idk if that is even a word but ya know what i mean)
It's a shame that longclaw's development as a characther was sacrificied for the new version. Hopefully we get to see more of her along with knuckles and tails in the sequel!
The begining kept the focus on sonic and his sudden isolation and his oncoming loneliness-the one we got is better getting to the point and keeping the focus on sonic-but if we had one scene of baby sonic and longclaw (sonics obi wan kenobi) before the echinidas show up-that would have been enough to see baby sonic spend time with someone and then that feeling of suddenly one day having the only person in your life be taken and now must adapt to a new planet alone-those two things together would be perfect
Ya know.... The more I look at this, the more I realize just how lucky we are as Sonic fans (even if you're not a Sonic fan) to be given such a treat of a Final release that looked as good as it did. I mean god damn.. no amount of rendering would make "old paramount design Sonic" less ugly....that is a ferociously ugly baby Sonic even if it were rendered and complete I don't know how that design was greenlit in the first place ,but I'm glad we're getting to see these cuts of what development on that was like before we got the redesign. It makes me even more grateful that we got what we got in the end.
What are you talkin about you're not even grateful about what design we have now for baby Sonic that is the biggest lie I've ever heard from you and other people so I would just not say that cuz you're saying that you're not appreciating the current baby Sonic we have for the full movie and quite frankly that just shows a lot of dishonesty in you
@@goldstarsracingmusic2251 My guy, are you some kind of stupid? That's not even what he said. Please do yourself a favor and learn to read before making comments like that.
Im conflicted-i wanted more time with longclaw since she is underutilized and had potential to have an emotional impact for being-as sonic puts it-his obi wan kenobi. The problem-they had her go to earth rather than having another scene in actual green hills as baby sonic spending time with longclaw before being sent to earth-seeing longclaw as sonic gets old takes away from the feeling of sudden isolation on a new planet and the oncoming loneliness he gets over the years-it takes away from it when he clearly had someone there for most of his life so far. The version we got gets to the point-keeping the focus on sonic and keep being taken away from the only person he cared about-so we understand the lonely aspect of his character being pushed away to safety at a young age having to adapt to being on a new home alone. I just wish we didnt have to sacrifice a potential character for sonic to connect to in a way that THAT WE GET TO ACTUALLY SEE INSTEAD OF BEING TOLD IN 3 SENTENCES THEN BAM! SHES GOT TO GO AS QUICKLY AS SHE GOT HERE. Yeah both are flawed-but when i asked for more scenes of longclaw that was not what i had in mind-if thats the alternative i do prefer the version we got in the end but there is a balance and compromise between the 2 that would have made the whole thing all the more tragic-seeing the loving relationship between sonic and longclaw seeing how their lives have been in one scene-just letting it breathe-then one day-sonic gets sighted and longclaw has to send him to earth never to see each other again-giving us a connection to longclaw like sonic had AND having him now forcefully isolated on a new world never to interact in an actual meaningful that would show he exists. We only get the latter of those parts that begining tragedy when we could have had both had they NOT sent her to Earth AND given her another scene with baby sonic-SHOWING US the relationship rather than having to say it which doesnt mean anything because we barely get a second to let it sink in before she is gone. Lost potential here-but seeing what they originally had planned-of the two options-i like what we got even if by force-could have been better either way though. I mean hell if guardians of the galaxy can establish a mother son relationship in a single scene letting the relationship play out and breathe before Quill is whisked away MAKING ME DAMN BALL MY EYES OUT then why the hell couldnt sonic have had the same damnit. Just saying.
2:17 Let’s play WHAT THE F*** THAT IS 1. Pikachu glitch in Smash Wii U and 3DS except on Sonic 2. Low poly OG Sonic design 3. Your nightmares No that’s just it it’s just a nightmare
Very interesting. They definitely did not know how to sonic towards the end there, but I think we could have edited that scene a little and still had more in that intro. I definitely feel more of a connection with Longclaw after that intro than the one we got.
I definitely think the changes in the final film were for the better. Losing longclaw absolutely built a strong emotional connection in the audience and really made you feel for how lonely sonic had to be. With this it seems more like sonic is being reckless and inconsiderate putting not just himself at risk but longclaw too, and I think the audience would not have liked him as much because of that. Also, good god, I hope they didn't actually intend to have sonic be barefoot at the end of this sequence, I HOPE thats just the render and not the actual intention because oh my god. My skin is crawling.
I think this was a test program and the narrator (sonic) was talking a lot but not I’m the movie, same for long claw being with her. So I’m sure they decided to remove that and remake it. Then here we are. With that 1 normal scene from the Sonic the Hedgehog movie.
I do like the final opening more, but I do like this deleted one, made me laugh when Sonic completely ignored Longclaws words of wisdom and carried on as if nothing happened 😂
Now obviously it’s an unfinished render so we can’t say for sure how the final version may have looked, but I think the final Echidna designs look way cooler.
I can't believe that the more-cursed sonic would have likely given us more Longclaw. I love the final product and how Sonic looked in the end. But I also kinda hoped to see Longclaw again.
The best way to cover the parts that were trimmed out would have been to use parts of them as a sort of "memory exposition" when Sonic mentions his "Obi Wan Kenobi" bit, albeit set farther in the film. Granted not all of them could be kept, but I do like the character of Longclaw as being possibly the only character Sonic has ever had anything close to true deeper caring emotions for.
I totally get why a lot of people liked this scene, and I agree it fleshes out Longclaw and Sonic's relationship better. Although, I prefer the changes they made to the final version of the movie. I think it just paces the movie better and makes the story seem more focused. In other words, it focuses more on Sonic's character development, including experiencing loneliness, developing a rivalry with Robotnik and making new friends. I kind of feel like adding a subplot with Longclaw and Sonic would make the movie too complex for the first of a possible series of movies. Plus, with Longclaw's fate being open-ended, she could come back in a sequel. Showing more of Longclaw's character in the sequel seems to make more sense to me.
The old Sonic movie design, and the new Sonic movie design are both loved by me!!! 😊💙 I do love the second Sonic movie design the very best!!!!! But as a true Sonic fan, I appreciate the 2019 Sonic design too!!! Sonic wasn't creepy, ugly, or gross... He was just a work in progress!!! I love sweetie blue Sonic, the movie was amazing!!!!! 😍😄😁💙💙💙
I would loved to see this concept in the movie, would have given us more mins into the film I felt it needed, let's just be lucky I guess that they stayed with the designs we currently have and the fact that this is a hint long claw didn't make it. Loved the film over all, good in my books, how about you? Let me guess looks odd not a handsome package? I call it.... The ps2 handsome package! (sorry I sound like a nerd or talk to much, just happy to see sonic is getting noticed and that they listened to us instead of taking the "bullying" to heart from someone in the cinema that worked there when I last saw the film. Ey at least we see what the designs would have looked like and behind the scenes! Omg I love behind the scenes really makes you wonder what was going on inside their head honeslty look at knuckles..... Doesn't he look like that knuckles meme..... Oh no... "OH NO")
