Baby Tantrums 

The baby found his mother and is drinking mom’s milk. He/she was hungry 😋. He was looking around before looking for the mom and finally found her!! That’s what babies do!

Just like a 2yr old. Mother amazing know exactly how to tell him it's not on, there is nothing with you. Too sweet 😋 Lovely sighting

Elephant mothers don’t immediately feed a baby being very noisy because the noise attracts predators. None of the elephants are patient with him because of his noise. A baby that has lost his mother basically faces death so the babies panic easily. It is windy so baby cannot find his mother by scent. Nor can he find her by touch. Elephants have very poor eyesight and babies are born almost blind. He runs to elephants he dimly sees but cannot tell if it’s his mother. After he finally finds his mother as she approaches him, the family circles around in protection and try to calm him, but he is too angry and is satisfied only by nursing. An older sibling stands watch while he nurses. So NOT a tantrum. Just a panicked baby who had lost his rather tardy mother.

The reason is simple: the baby was just hungry! "Everyone is eating but not me. It's unfair!"

Omg! He calmed down a little after getting “spanked” He acted up again and they all came over and huddled him, awww he wanted to eat!! These elephants 🐘 are so unbelievable! Love ❤️ them 🥰❤️🙏😊😳

Fascinating how all infants are equipped with the loudest set of lungs when they are hungry. Can't be ignored. I remember my own tiny infant could produce an incredible wail out of those 3 ounce lungs.

Fascinating video of family unit. Hungry confused baby. I think too big of a sis getting milk displaced hungry infant. Then herd tried to say "stop crying you'll attract predators ". Infant still hungry so they surrounded him to comfort until mom arrived. THANK YOU FOR THIS GREAT VIDEO.

I find it interesting how they discipline them, they have no qualms of kicking them, or knocking them to the ground. It's like they're letting them know that there are repercussions if they act out.

I felt so sad for the little one. I hope it really was the baby missing it's mother or being hungry and not having any pain or feeling bad

They’ll put up with none of that. Baby doesn’t like the wind and sand, but Mama has the comfort food, lol.

There’s a link in the description that explains what was happening. The mom wasn’t actually far away from the baby at all. The mom has just mastered the art of selective hearing...Once she realized she could no longer ignore her baby anymore she came and comforted her baby.

This is just fascinating. I’ve also heard of accounts of mother bears picking up their cubs with by the scruff of their necks (like mother cats) & shaking them when they’re being naughty. It gives one such a profound sense of connection to see parents of other species dealing with the same issues we have.

Naughty ones are every were....he/she is like the little one of the combined family. Should be treated like a common property, but ultimately within the trunk of his/her's mother...but there will be cousins who will act little wierd (but with love) as shown in the video....but in the bottom line all the aunts will take care of every thing: Indian concept.

Elephant knocked it down so hard, it got the wind knocked out. It was trying 2 tattle tell. That was not it's mum. Instead baby decided2LATCHon & eat as much as it could--yum yum good-super delicious! How dare that BIG elephant try 2 suc Kel, while tiny baby is nursing. Baby did not deserve 2b backed kick. I think that was a matriarch that ran 2 baby & put her TRUNK around baby. Notice after that mum nursed the baby. I don't like that teen elephant. Its big enough 2 forage.

That youth elephant did not have 2 back kick it & hit it w/ it's trunk smashing baby elephant 2 the ground. I never knew a baby elephant could trumpet that loud & long. It must really b hungry.

After reading the description on your blog, maybe the baby got disoriented or confused when the other herd joined up. Since the dynamics changed, she didn’t have her normal caretakers and the caretaking she was used to and it might have upset her. There’s another video on YT of an older calf pitching a fit when another herd joins up. She goes on an absolute rampage for 10 - 15 minutes, bush-bashing, knocking tops off of termite mounds, didn’t want anyone near her, lol. In that instance, though, it was surmised that she was used to being mama’s main helper with her little brother, and she felt less important with the other herd about. They are such interesting creatures, sharing so many human characteristics.

It seems this elephants hardly have any food. They look like the are trying to dig very short grips of grass. And there's BIG patches of no vegetation. They need to be moved to greener fuller vegetation. Poor baby looking for his mama. 💕

The first baby elephant was likely hungry and mom was too busy caring for herself. The second baby threw a tantrum because mommy was letting big sister nurse and elephants really only produce enough milk for one baby. The big sister should have been turned away. Mommy caught up with her youngest at the end to let them nurse. This is really kind of sad because that one elephant obviously doesn't care for young ones and shows it by kicking out at them. Most babies have several allomothers they can go to for comfort.

I hope he is OK and not hurt or in pain !!!

Looking at all the bear terrain behind them makes me think there isn't enough for them to eat.

The baby was hungry, it was also scared. Mom just kept munching away with the older sibling by her. The sibling took the Mom's milk when it was too old to be doing that. The baby approached bits Mom and the sibling crowed in and drank more milk. Mom allowed this. The baby again crys out in frustration and heads out alone. The other adult elephants, all seemed to be females were extremely rough and I would say mean to this baby. why the Mom didn't charge in when another elephant kicked and pushed the baby so hard it fell I do not understand. Not that the Mom allowed the older sibling to take the babies rightful place by her side and take her milk. It astounded me to see this behavior on the part of the other elephants treatment of this baby, and the Mom's willingness to allow it to happen and to allow her much older baby(probably around 4-5yrs old) to take the babies milk. I do not think it was funny, and I understand the terror and frustration the baby was feeling. Very unusual behavior in elephants. You would not see this but very very rarely in African elephants towards their young. Thank goodness Mom did finally run over to her baby and stop further abuse from the other elephants, and allowed her baby to suckle

.... There was a lesson both ways : the one which kicked him twice ... Too much power , beware , she was blocked by " the rescue team " . As for the little one , being put back in its place , as it should be , but protected .... Lessons learned !! 😔

Do you think the mother has stopped producing milk or ducts are blocked etc? At end of video, it looks like the baby tries to nurse, then backs a way and there is a space between their open mouth, then tries again and same thing?

Who in the herd was spanking this baby; twice with the back leg and once with the trunk? Wow, that was quite some smacking! If they knew the baby was looking for food why wasn't there anything being done about it by the adult elephants? Elephants are very protective of each other, but little was being done to help the tiny baby elephant. I am curious about it.
