if you notice the picture was deep in the mid 70's with all the jackson 5 afros. hkw come babyface looks like he is in the 80's in that picture with that hair and even that shirt. looks like an 80s babyface was plugged into that picture.

I've noticed that L.A.'s main contribution to most of their productions were drum and brass arrangements.
@Tre404
@Tre404 11 лет назад
L.A. was most definitely focused on the business end of things. That was especially and exponentially true once La'Face snagged their distribution deal with Arista/BMG. After that, Reid's musical contributions became almost nonexistent.

You are most correct. The Daryl influence is pronounced. (Silent Partner Productions).

Funny thing was 2 years later, they split up after producing his album "For The Cool In You".

"Worked" is a subjective term in this situation...

Now, I do know that LA did openly admit that it was Babyface that did most of the writing (when the credits just read "Written & Produced by LA & Babyface"). Daryl Simmons has been writing with them (& Face alone) since before the days of The Deele, I might add. But, I will say this, I DID notice a difference in the sound of the post-LA productions, especially on the uptempo numbers. So, I'm sure he had at least some deserved credit.

Um.... have you ever looked at a Deele album cover? From the "Material Thangz" album in 1985, and going back to 1983's "Street Talk," to 'Face's first record with the group Manchild in 1979 (all of which I have, and can attest to), he looked nothing like he did in that 70s J5 photo. That picture is for real.

Well, I know LA did a lot of the business-handling for the production and record companies which means he handled the funds. Well, since 'Face did most of the creative work on the ballads in particular which was the bulk of their income and not seeing that same breakdown of the cash, I'm sure that had something to do with it also.

It's amazing that Babyface and Kanye West have similar voices and fantastic production skills. Both brilliant minds of their time.

By this time, the rumors were partly true. 'Face and L.A. DID fall out just prior to this... but did keep their professional relationship with regard to the running of La'Face Records. But they were no longer producing and writing together; Darryl Simmons had stepped in by this time, and was doing MUCH writing/arranging/producing with 'Face. L.A.'s role had become that of executive producer of their fledgling stable of artists (Damian Dame, Jermaine Jackson, Crown Heights Affair, TLC, etc.).

According to ‘Face, they did have a rift, but never aired the real reason. They’ve eventually reconciled and still friends, and even collaborated on the “new edition” and “bobby brown” biopics with music. While their business relationship ended, their personal friendship is still there.

Yes, he has co-writing credit on three of the songs, and also production credit. But Babyface and Daryl did the lion's share of the work; myself, I actually question whether Reid ever set foot in the sessions. My feeling, because of all that was going on at La'Face at that time, is that his production credit was contractual, not 'actual.'

Babyface definitely did dam near all the work and LA have admitted it before, face never really needed LA. Hell look how successful babyface was starting in 93 when the split happened. Face should have tons of millions more then his net worth say
