BABYMETAL - Monochrome (Dad&DaughterFirstReaction) 

What a great surprise seeing you're back right away after they released their new single. Is really lovely to see you again having some fun, but i beg you pardon coz I'm gonna cut some of that sweetness next, just bear with me. Welcome to BabyMetal's metalverse.🦊🤘🌐 After almost a month of released their new single "Divine Attack - Shingeki" marking the long time waited return, they just released another great new single "Monochrome" and is a song that expresses a fleeting hope during Ragnarok, which means "doomsday" in Norse mythology, that the starry skies will be wrapped in rainbow colors, all of this under the question which color were the monochrome fireworks lighting up in the night sky, from a children's eyes. After hearing the lyrics a little bit and watching the umbrellas falling theme (a reference to the black rain or maybe a metaphor of dropping bombs) It could also be related to an historical sad moment we all know happened in Hiroshima which is also SuMetal birthplace. They're making us sure that this song belongs to another world out of 10 in total of their metalverse. This time the theme runs around the Norse mythology and the Ragnarök event, we can also see an artwork which apparently show "Yggdrasil", the Norse tree of life, there's a lot more interesting things related to this tree but in general is representing the life and rebirth of the humankind after a moment of death and chaos, BM fans know that this a recurrent theme on BM lore and is always exciting. Another hint or hidden similarity reference with this tree could be the Aogiri tree, which means "phoenix" and is known in Hiroshima for being a symbol of peace after surviving that sad event. Recently KobaMetal tweeted "Never ending story ☔☀️🌈" and making again a connection with the "birth, death and rebirth" theme of others songs, like No Rain No Rainbow which have a strong connection with the Hiroshima theme especially the live at Legend S 2017 when SuMetal performed in her own hometown during celebrating her 20th birthday. I also noticed since a very long time ago they were using the _"Myth"_ title before every different title itself, so that could mean another hint over the concept of this album using different mythologies and their stories represented in each one of their songs, i heard another snippets sets and I can totally see that. In this case they're going with the Norse mythology which is very popular nowadays thanks to videogames like God Of War Ragnarok recently released, or even Attack On Titan (Shingeki No Kyojin) anime series, without giving so much details, which is also a theme many BM fans are relating to the world of "Divine Attack - Shingeki", their first single released. And btw, following the album concept theme, the first song could be about the moment the war and the battle for the future sounds right in the beginning and even taking it to a divinity status, but now in this song we can see the sequels and sorrows of that consequences. The sound on this song reminds a little bit of good old hard rock ballad mixed with a touch of heavy metal and some complex drums always in contrast with beautiful SuMetal's vocals, i can also see the hands of Yuyoyuppe on this, he's the songwriter/composer/arranger behind songs like Megitsune, Rondo Of Nightmare, Karate and Kagerou. After watching the credits now there's no doubt is him behind this song, he knows his business and totally rocks. Anyway there's more references that deserves to be named here but i don't wanna make a huge wall of text so I'm gonna let others kitsune fellas help you with more info and data. It could be a reference to moments anyone is suffering nowadays too, like the recent pandemic situation and others wars around the world. I like how at the end the lyrics said "Just Smile" and then the colors are back giving us some hope.🙂 Kitsune up and see you next time 🦊🤘🌈

Great reaction. I know nothing about Ragnarok or the Norse mythology being referenced but there do also seem to be references to the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, even if it is not specifically about those tragic events. The "monochrome firework" could be the bomb and the tree they used in the visuals throughout and that was finally shown in colour at the end could be the Hiroshima Peace Tree that survived the bombing as well as the tree from Norse mythology.

As for the 'black rain' in the video, this remains to be seen, I am not sure about it, so please read below for just a reference. If this description of the rain in the video, is the 'black rain' that happened at that time in Hiroshima, it conveys the fear of the atomic bombing. The term was originally made famous by Masuji Ibuse's novel of the same title in 1965 in Japan. And it was made into a film by director, Shohei Imamura, starring Yoshiko Tanaka in 1989 (I watched it). The people who were exposed to the bomb, suffered burns and death at that time, were even grateful for this 'rain of death'... I heard that Su-'s grandparents are hibakusha (atomic bomb victim), and she herself seems to be the third generation hibakusha... By the way, Yoshiko Tanaka (田中好子), who starred in this movie, is commonly known as 'Su-chan' in Japan. Yes, in our generations in Japan, Su-chan is not the Metal Queen, but her, Su-chan from 'Candies' in 70-80's big idol trio, haha...

Great reaction, thanks! While "Divine Attack" appealed more to me musically, this one got me in shock from the lyrics perspective. It looks like they are warning us about the consequences of our global stupidity leading us to the end of the world or "Ragnarök" according to the Norse mythology. Well none noticing the final tree (I linked it to your tree of live the first second I played your video). That may be a survivor tree from the nuclear blast or "Hibakujumoku". But also may represent "Yggdrasil" (again from the Norse mythology), a sacred tree representing the link among the 9 different worlds.

Just thought i mention this was not out of nowhere there's another 3 to come in January February and March and an Album and the European tour as special guests of Sabaton ( 4 shows in UK ) New Queens claiming the crown sorry wishful thinking by other bands fans same as in 2018 . The song is about the end of the world. The monochrome firework is the bomb, and the falling umbrellas represents the black rain that follows. In the video, dust in the sky follow one firework, the atmosphere being blown away follows another, and the destruction of a city another. The raindrops splashing look like explosions with smoke. The tree is Yggdrasil, the Norse tree of life representing a rebirth of the world after the Norse apocalypse known as Ragnarok. The lyrics is longing for what the world used to be and hints at the suffering of living in nuclear winter with a blocked out sky and with the end being the hope of better days ahead.
