Charles Daniels performes 'Bist du bei mir?', for All of Bach. If Bach wrote one singalong tune, it was surely this song, right? Unfortunately not. Although Bach did have a hand in it, the song itself is by Gottfried Stölzel. The theme was a wonderful choice to open his gift music book to Anna Magdalena: a simple song of gratitude, trust, faith in God and faith in his second wife.

One of the best baroque tenors. I listened to him a few years ago singing King Arthur in Madrid and I was impressed by how his voice is so well preserved.

Miguel Jurado Garcia Posada it's true, wonderful that he can still maintain a place among the many many soloists there are in the early music circuit. I remember hearing him in the '90s - so loved his voice then, as now.

Oh, the incomparable Charles; age cannot wither nor custom stale the infinite variety of that voice. I first heard him sing twenty years ago and I was stunned to the point of speechlessness; I didn't even know it was possible to do some of the things he did with his voice. And he's still amazing me to this very day.

@@AndrewAdcock yup! it starts off by repeating the first part (until meiner Ruh) a couple times, switches to the end part (from Ach to Augen zu), and finally goes back to the beginning to end the piece off.

« If you're with me, I'll go with joy » is a Aria from Gottfried Heinrich Stölzels Opera Diomedes, which premiered in 1718. The « Aria » is known as « Bist du bei mir » (BWV 508), a version for voice and continuo, which can be found as No. 25 in the 1725 music booklet for Anna Magdalena Bach. Stölzel and Bach were in the same places at different times and shared knowledge, but whether they met in person can only be assumed. The Bach family copied dozens of Stölzel pieces in their public and private musical practices with or without Stölzel's approval. History will tell according to the research of musicologists. This composition will be orchestrated later by Thomas Frost. *Lucien* Aria: « If you are with me, I will go with joy die and rest. you could use a youtube -> WAV converter for now. of course it wont be as good as them releasing the original audio files but its close enough
