It was always impossible for me to satisfy my cello teacher with how I played Bach. Everyone has such subjective ideas of how it should be played. There is really no wrong way to do it. Just do what sounds good to you.
The experts criticize snd advise. The commons, like myself, indulge in your sound and expression. Beautiful and heavenly to this plain simple person, you are 🌞

Lovely playing and perfect tempo! I just recently started learning this (sounding nowhere nearly as nice as you though!). Is your version Tortelier (or maybe similar)? That's what I'm working from and I love the bowing and phrasing, so very musical. Great job, maybe I will post a video when I get half as good as yours haha! 👏

Beautiful performance. I use to play this piece on my classical guitar. But maybe I am playing a wrong note. When you press your pinkie finger at 1:02min. Shouldn´t be the next note? In my sheet music is C#? Please, let me know so I can fix my sheet music. Thank you in advance!
@@moramajor Hi! I use the Bärenreiter edition and have a C natural there. I am sure this is up for debate though- there are so many variations on how to play this with the many different editions!

My humble opinion I hear a need to give equal weight to each note when alternating strings also play with a metronome at all times in practice. Play as slow as necessary for precision of intonation and volume. Keep going with your Cello! You have lots of potential. 😊
I disagree. Music should not feel like it's with a metronome. There has to be some elasticity of the tempo with phrasing. Some of the notes may sound artificially lengthened -- and then it's more of a phrasing understanding, not a need for a metronome.
@@whitewillowstrings I tried to find which bar it is on the score but couldn't - my scores are not with me at present. It sounds like the five notes going down are just a bit unusual. But not "wrong", it adds a little originality to this piece. I was wondering if it was on a score or just an inspiration.
@@fransas François! Are you a cellist?? You have an incredible ear, I am so impressed. In measure 19 on the run down I played a F natural there instead of an F sharp. That is why it sounds different- I definitely did not intend to do it but I recall that one of my teachers in the past have called me out for it. I have played it for so long it is difficult to undo! @@whitewillowstrings Thanks for your answer. No, I'm not a cellist, unfortunately. I did a bit of music though, as a kid, first in a "fanfare" (a sort of brass band) where I played trumpet, then guitar as a teenager in a band, and bass as well. And I learned piano in my early forties for a while - just to play the partitas. I'm a fan of Bach whom I place above everybody else, though I like also a few other composers like Vivaldi, Telemann, Beethoven, Liszt, Saint-Saëns. I love the violin and the piano and the cello partitas. All masterpieces for me. Your little "mistake", as it were, gives a little extra charm to your interpretation. And I also like jazz music and a few other genres. Have you ever heard Jacques Louissier?
I am not sure if this beautiful post was inspired by Kevin Olusola’s cello-boxing version of this piece but it was a delight to hear it in its entirety and I’m grateful you have made this available so those who have heard Kevin’s rendition now have the option to hear the entire piece.
@@whitewillowstrings Yes, back somewhere around 2011 Kevin was a Pre-Med student at Yale and was contacted by Pentatonix because they needed a beatboxer for the group they were forming and competing in an upcomng NBC show (Sing-Off). Ultimately, Kevin answered the call and gave up his medical career to play with Pentatonix professionally. He has a number of Cello-boxing songs out there that I recommend you listen to because you are a cellist (Down and Renegade are two of his best) and an extraordinarily beautiful arrangement of Stay With Me (Sam Smith cover). Kevin uses looping quite a bit with his cello-boxing and you would be in a better position than most to appreciate what he is doing. The following link goes to a performance where Kevin plays an excerpt from the piece you just performed, then moves on to his final piece (Kevin’s Fifth). Load the video and move the slider over to 5:15 to hear the Bach piece followed by his finale, which is entirely incredible. I love the cello, it is my favorite stringed instrument because of its rich lower tones while keeping the ability to play in a mid-high register.

I love this piece and I listen to it so often, I'm beginning to think that I can identify who the cellist is by the way they interpret it. (of course, only among the cellists, that I listen to.) I just want to say that you play this beautifully! I am moved; and then there's your dog.... how peaceful and contented Willow seems. Blessings to you.......

Your performance was so very enjoyable and wonderful! What a great way to wake up and have morning coffee while you play the cello seemingly effortlessly in the background. But I especially liked that you made eye contact with people in the audience (drawing us in) and then at other times you were lost in the rapture of the cello!
