@@hoon_sol I think this is not only just a natural trumpet but without holes, isn't it? I think this is why it sometimes sounds out of tune. I feel bach compose music forgiving this problem. Trumpet always comes with timpani and it work as a whole even when trumpet go wrong. 見た感じ音程微調整用の穴すらないように見えるのですが、そういうことであってますかね？ まあ現代の古楽で使われている穴ありナチュラルトランペットでも相当難しいと思うので、正直仕方ないところはあるかも。 バッハもこういう問題はわかっていたような気がしていて、トランペットとティンパニがセットになってるので、トランペットが吹き損ねても盛り上がるんですよね。

@@user-li8sd5pt3o: That's exactly what a natural trumpet is, it's a simple brass instrument without any valves at all. It sounds out of tune because the people playing the natural trumpets aren't that great at it; of course I'm not saying they're bad, they're doing a fine job, but they're certainly not great, and you can hear that they're the weakest part.

Yes it is, but I have to point out that you can not directly compare this natural trumpet performance to others. All the natural trumpet has no valves and hard to play. So Modern natural trumpet (no valves) usually has holes to modulate their tuning a little bit. See this video, where the player's right hand move to change the tuning via the holes. I believe playing natural trumpet without holes even more difficult or almost impossible and thus this orchestra sounds weak at trumpet sometimes. Also see this video, where all the trumpeter use the natural trumpet without holes and sounds out of tune. Yes, I suppose that might definitely be part of why the natural trumpets don't sound that good here, since they don't even have those holes to rely on. That being said, it does still sound like it does, which isn't great; it may very well have been equally problematic in the time of Handel, but perhaps there were players who could do it well since they'd been playing that way their entire lives. I doubt we'll ever know, but there might be anecdotes and other writings about it.
