I sang also the Mass in B-Minor! That was a fantastic experience for me!! The whole choir was in a special mood during the reharsals! A special spirit direct from Bach was in the air!Golden moments!

If posterity is still here at 3000 AD, if you're reading this, we did not deserve Johann Sebastian Bach. And neither do you.

I've spent the last few days listening to the Et in terra pax fugue seemingly on repeat, and now I've returned to the Cum Sancto Spiritu fugue (4:31). The movements they're from are my favorite in the entire mass. They are already glorious enough to begin with, but when their respective fugues come in, they reach their absolute pinnacle. I cannot possibly express in words how much I love these moments, nor how much joy they give me. They truly are a taste of heaven.

This version has the best pacing of both songs I've ever heard... I mean cum sanctus actually sounds like a gong of church's bells going off, I've never heard that before! Beautiful!

*04:31* And for icing on the cake, Sebastian has us dance a 5-part _fugue_ in MINUET time -through several keys, ending back in D Major: _"··· with the Holy Spirit in the glory of God the Father !"_ 💃🕺 But of course !
@prometheusrex1
@prometheusrex1 Год назад
The emphases are on "gloria" and "patris," signaling--with the uptempo, melismas, brass, and triumphant harmonic conclusions--that this movement is about the glory of the Father. Bach stated that the purpose of music is to refresh the spirit and glorify God. He conveys that profoundly here. 💙

Massive late-Baroque polyphony. I cannot imagine something better, apart for same-scale Renaissance polyphony.

It’s great! Thanks for sharing, but the music sheet and vocal record seem not in the same key signature..
@pannonia77
@pannonia77 2 года назад
If you (falsely) believe that a' should be 440 Hz, then you are right. However, this is a fairly recent standard, the pitch of a' varied in time and space. This recording (as practically all Bach recordings using period instruments) adopt the pitch standard of a'=415 Hz, a semitone lower than today's standard. So it is in the same key as the score, only it does not sound the same as e.g. 20th century music.

Vers 2:20 ; 2:30 l’homme chante deux fois en prononçant « Jesous », puis, lors de la suite de l’œuvre il chante « Yesous », si bien qu’on ne connais pas la bonne prononciation qui doit être faite…
@pannonia77
@pannonia77 2 года назад
Oui, tu as raison.

quoniam tu solus sanctus The instrumentation with bass wind acts like a parody of the claim to be the only sanctity. Isn't the bearded grandfather portrayed with a bassoon? The mocking of those who want to be like God the Father in unity with the Holy Spirit is promptly followed by proof with a triumphant resurrection: Et ressurexit Only those who are one with the Holy have the power to rise and ascend to heaven
