@@moran68 she is swaying to the music and could clearly walk away if she wanted to. She cant see, so sound is her entire world. She clearly enjoys this
@@moran68 its scientifically proven that elephants are self aware and experience emotions similar to humans and if you know anything about elephant body language you would know that she is enjoying herself.
@@moran68 National Geographic published an atricle on it and its the first thing that comes up when you google elephant emotion. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hjsu3SGAdLs.html Heres a vid proving my point but Instead of asking me, someone who you clearly don't find creditable, why dont you do your own research.
Imagine if you could go back in time and tell Bach that one day, hundreds of years after him, his music would be lull an elephant far away in another land. Beautiful.
I can only imagine for a blind animal that only hears sounds of nature, this must have been an amazing new sensation. Thank you for playing music for this creature. May he be born with eye sight in his next life. 💙
@forskolin1 Hey, you two, can you stop arguin about religion? This is a beatiful video showing kindness and peace, there's no need to start an argument about something so personal like religion
I wonder if the elephants talk about a mysterious small creature that lures them to the clearing in a forest and surrounds them with magical music that heals the soul.
read The White Bone. They call them ( us) the two-leggers, if I remember correctly. Elephants are some of the most conscious and kind creatures on the planet, even more than some humans. Whales too.
@Truth Willout BRAVO for your getting help and if the meds work, wonderful . I too suffer from depression but I have 10 old dogs to care for and I tried the meds, got off of them, and when I get depressed I have a wonder SW to talk with, email etc but believe it or not it is these and other wonderful videos on RU-vid and of course my dogs know when i am down and they can bring me out. Depression esp. with this pandemic has been an eye opener for all of us, and we must ensure we support one another to help us get through each hour of the day. My best wishes to you and all. God Bless and keep you safe and well. PAX+
RU-vid actually started with an elephant video. The first video on RU-vid is "Me at zoo" and they show elephants and talk about them. I almost spelled it *ELEPANTS* 😂😂😂
I did a project on zoos and I'm pretty sure elephants sway when they are bored or nervous... it's cute I guess? Not when you think about the reasoning behind it.
@O K You had me look it up. A lot of website seems to be indeed confirming what you are saying but none quote sources for research or anything. A lot of them are just blog post, mostly copied of of each other. I do not say that it is not true, as it is quite possible, but I'd love it if you could actually provide a link to elephant behaviour studies, to confirm that :) I want to make sure before I can repeat the information. (I haven't done a lot of research, just the few first google result pages).
@@Uveryahi My research wasn't predominantly on elephants just abnormal behavior in zoo animals, I just saw quite a few places talk about the swaying. I'm not 100% on it but the video just gives me a weird vibe because elephants have (obviously) much different ears than we do and this music would not sound the same or as good through elephant ears.
@@trstquint7114 I quit my high paying tech job, have gotten rid of most everything and plan to rent my home to live a smaller life. I haven't decided yet if it's Thailand or not...but it's definitely not Austin TX anymore. I'll update if I'm on my way to the sanctuary!
we hope and keep our fingers crossed Yuki. Otherwise we all need to be at the mercy of mother nature .. beautiful clip .. they are others where he plays to other elephants who enjoy and partake ..
Oh dear - I can't Handel it any more... I once had a Liszt of more bad composer gags but it must be Haydn. Bit too Bizet atm so will stop Messiaen around...

I’ve just watched non stop for two hours, reporting on the pandemic. When she started swaying, I started crying. You tube, you came good in the end. I’m done for the night. Thank you, Paul Barton, for this upload. I’m so pleased to have stumbled into your channel.
Try turning the news off a few days a week. Unfortunately since the news is like every other show, it's a business dependent on ratings. Click-bait, fear and anger is what sells. They have no incentive to report life as it really is and the beautiful stories that arise everyday.
Agree, stay away from the news. Keeping stress and anxiety to a minimum is important for your health, and knowing the numbers will not help you with that, nor will they help you protect yourself. Get eight hours of sleep a night, studies suggest the immune system is more responsive with consistent eight hours rest.
Since I happened upon these videos of Paul Barton playing beautiful music for elephants, I try to end my day by listening to several of them each night. I'm sure that they help me to have a better night's sleep. It's so hard to stop listening and go to bed.
I’m a 61 yr old, partially blind person who was completely blind for 2 yrs. This has touched my soul. Thank you, Paul, for being so amazingly kind to this beautiful elephant. I love how she reacts. God bless.
@Luke Bourne There is a thing called voice assistant that you can probably find in your own device and it basically tells blind people what they are doing in their device's screen . A little search on google and you will find a lot of answers to your question my friend
@Luke Bourne in a world with information at one's fingertips, it pays to do some research before asking a question that can be deemed as offensive and ignorant. Work around some people with disabilities and you'll understand how you came across.
@Luke Bourne it's not about people being snowflakes, its about being inconsiderate. There is a difference. Please learn to be more considerate of others on first meetings because we don't know what others may have gone through in their lives.
I just want to thank this man for all he does for these abused elephants. You are a rare breed, especially nowadays. This was so lovely to watch. She loved the music, that’s quite obvious. Her swaying almost seemed like a dance. Beautiful
Beautiful...she pays so much attention to the music you can tell she's enthralled by it, and the swaying is almost like she's gently dancing. It makes me so happy to see animals happy and at peace like this beautiful elephant.
Knowing she's blind and reacting to these sounds for the first time..... it's amazing......she moves away when it sounds dark...but moves closer when it's comforting....this is incredible...
What an intelligent and empathetic man, playing for intelligent and empathetic elephants. One of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. Heart-warming. Thank you, Paul. 👌🏼👍🏻🙏
Colin Cochrane As do we all Colin. Extremely moving. Elephants have complex emotions, compassion, empathy, and are super intelligent. These gentle giants still seem to forgive humans for the abuse and mass slaughter we cause them. Truly remarkable mammals.
Wow amazing. Animals are very receptive to music. When I play my sax just doing the warmups and long tones time and time again doves and other small birds will come to the window and listen for a bit.
Doves like music? That surprises me, but fits my theory on music. After having listened to music with a wild bird from 8 to 14 hours a day for 7 months, I've had some time to ponder how birds listen. They listen without distraction from a busy mind. Humans have minds that are triggered by music to think about stuff. Sophisticated listeners of music understand that thinking and listening conflict. Intense listening involves a quiet mind, and that's difficult to achieve. However, if you've got a birdbrain, like the little wild bird that roosted in my heater box, listening intently is natural and can be maintained all day. The bird found music to be most pleasurable, but it wasn't that simple. I think it did not like listening to music alone. Not in our case, at least, where the bird was so used to following what I did, that music got in the way of it's listening efforts. So, I couldn't leave music playing for the bird and then go do something, because the bird was compelled to keep tabs on me. It's as if it wanted to be involved in the action. As if we were nest mates. The bird has flown the coop, and I'm thankful, since the bird pestered me for music all the time, except when I was sleeping. But, if I were to yawn, or take a deep breath, it would tweet in order to get my sleepy ass out of bed.....to play music. All this sounds crazy, I know. This bird loves all kinds of music....you name it. That is different from most humans, who form strong preferences in music, being unable to listen to some types of music. I'm no scientist, and I don't play one on TV, but I think that music affects the primitive part of the brain, that humans "share" somewhat with other animals, but the advance part of the human brain either accepts that music or rejects it. Some people dislike all music. Some people only like a small portion of music, while others enjoy a wide range of music.
@@chavesa5 i think they knew when they made it, that it was for the sake of the future as well. That's how true scientists etc work for so little money. They know what they're doing matters for everyone
Is the elephant dancing? She is dancing, oh my god, she really looks like it. I want to cry watching this, it is so beautiful. Gives me a little hope back for the world.
Phil Mclellan Haha Yes it is started off as a grand but it is probably just as well that it was trunkated a bit or she might never have herd the music and would have to trumpet herself. Of course she would not be paid. It would have been her trumpet voluntary
I wonder if she hears better out of her left ear. What a precious creature. She loves the Bach Prelude! Its so sweet how she sways back and forth. Thank you for bringing joy and healing to her. She really loves the Schubert Serenade. Thank you.
Tristan Animals are too good for this planet, we are privileged just to be living here with them. They can teach us so much about unconditional love, compassion, non-judgement, forgiveness, living in the present moment, living in harmony with nature and so on. Watch, listen and learn.
Egg Master Nobody said a single word about any god or gods. A blessing is simply a blessing; it stems from the heart of humanity, not some supposed deity. Yes, in the description says that it's from Elephant World, a sanctuary where you can visit them. In their page they wrote: Elephants World is a self-supporting Environmental Conservation Organization that cares for domestic elephants, situated just outside the town of Kanchanaburi, Thailand. Elephants World cares for the daily needs of over 30 elephants and staff by offering Eco-travelers the experience of an up-close and personal encounter with these wonderful creatures. Our visitor programs range from a single day visit to the Mahout Experience of a week or more. The Elephants World Mission is to provide the best possible care for our elephants, staff and visitors. We welcome travelers here at home and right across the world. We strive to make every moment spent with us educational, enjoyable and rewarding in meaningful ways, understanding our visitors love elephants and wish to play a part, as we do, in their conservation for future generations.
She also can't see or hear how much some of us adore her. We're of one, so love; universally. Although I see 900 some odd dislikes. They're probably reptilian aliens.. bless em
Her reaction when you start playing is so endearing. This really makes you realise we are all of one stock. And anything with a brain able to recognise patterns can feel something in music. No doubt her experience differs immensely from ours, but there is definitively something going on. What a find.
ricsackPlays well apparently deaf people can “hear” music by feeling the vibrations. again, this is something i heard so don’t curse me out if i’m wrong
Hmm, thanks for the heads up. It does indeed appear that no seemingly good thing is without flaw. Perhaps though, this guy gives the elephants respite from their wretched lives? Still very unfortunate to hear :(
That might be a beautiful way to spend a life, but the word 'murder' brought hate into it, so for me there is much more beauty in giving a blind old elephant some joy.
Calm down, even the "harsh" thais mahouts aren't really so cruel. The ethics and faith of thais is fairly strong and mostly boils down to "mai pen rai" -- which implies they'd suffer for the sake of another, despite their own willpower of ego. And she's out in the country, she's fine. The closer to Laos, the better for elephants. Most thais revere the animal.
Paul Barton. I have only just discovered your channel this morning. I have since shared one of your videos to my Facebook page for friends and family to see. Every one I've watched has brought tears to my eyes. This is so beautiful and I cannot thank you enough. I absolutely adore what you are doing for these magnificent & beautiful beings. You're honestly one of a kind. I can only imagine what the world would be like if it were filled by people like you. My hat goes of to you Paul.
Or from the people who understand animal behavior and know that elephants only sway when they are distressed. She is not dancing, she's upset that her main sense she has left is being interrupted by new noises.
What a sweet girl. I am crying, and came here because I was crying. I know she is a feeling, deeply intelligent old soul who understands what she is hearing. I wish I could be there with you, Tree With Yellow Flowers, because you are a big beautiful flower.
So beautiful to see such kindness. Almost made me cry. Then I started reading the comments people left and I did cry. We need more of this kind of connectedness with the wonderful creatures on this planet. It's not "man's planet" it's ALL our planet. Hopefully one day the "blind" humans will see this.
Cory Avila I dearly wish I could share your optimism as I sit here in tears. Humanity is now a term that has become defunct in that it can no longer be used to describe any sense of kindness, compassion and honour. We, as a species, do not deserve to live as we do. I can’t stand much more: it’s all just got so much worse so very quickly.
Mindrolling In the 60s I read a sign "The scum of the earth is polluting its waters" ...it took 30-40 years for that to sink in..now 2018 at least we have Boyan Slat and are we waking up....
That was the thought I had as well. While it's beautiful to see Lam react to the music, what is even more inspiring is the time and care this gentleman put in to getting that music to Lam. Truly an act of love and selflessness. What a world this would be if we all had a little more of that.
What a beautiful thing you are doing. I can only imagine the love flowing through you and the elephants you play to. These moments are how God intended us to live. ✝️❤️🔥🛐
Imagine in 30,000 years people will see footage like this and think how incredible that humans once walked alongside creatures as beautiful as this. Hopefully the human race can stop exploiting the planet and cherish the animal kingdom.
There won't be a Human Race within the next 100 Years if we keep following the trajectory were on. The rate of progress will advance so much that Humanity as we know it will be unrecognisable.
This is like playing the piano for somebody's old blind grandmother. Its her last and only enjoyment before she passes. Thanks for giving her enjoyment.
What beauty in two ways. The music was lovely but the way that sweet, blind elephant responded was precious. This man gave this animal something special that brought a tear to my eye. I love it when people reach out in kindness to the helpless, afflicted or just plain lonely, be they man or beast. This was so touching that you can't put a price on it! Bravo!
With over a million views, it seems that many others agree with you. As a zoologist, I've worked with animals for most of my life, but I've rarely seen anything like Paul Barton's dedication to this beautiful old elephant; very touching.
@@drbob528 There are other videos of Paul Barton playing for elephants, including the elephant Peter, who gets really enthusiastic and joins in, thumping the keys with happiness. They also dance to the music, which is wonderful: jigging and bouncing around with total happiness. They are all on RU-vid under Paul Barton - Music for Elephants. Enjoy!
I have a humming bird that loves my guitar... she always sits on the head stock to listen... either that or she wants me to fill up the hummingbird feeder
I am also totally blind and I know I enjoyed this music a lot. I wish I knew what this elephant did when she heard it. I'm positive she loved it. I hope she is safe from cruel people! It's not easy to move a piano out there where she lives. How kind and thoughtful. Bless you and thank you. The elephants are record keepers. So many get killed or mangled. This is a beautiful and loving video.
She first walks with pianist guy in forest. Very peaceful place. Then a piano came up in forest next scene. She is near piano all the time. She listens, she didnt go away. Sometimes she listens still, sometimes she swings and enjoy music. If she dont like it, she can easly go away but she stayed and listen. End of video there was music but we see pianist guy and elephant walks to the forest and disappeared and video ends there.
Bryn Shortland I was just basing it off the fact that the elephant was standing still the whole time, as if it was actually captured by the sound of the piano. Of course, I might be completely wrong and maybe it just didn't feel like moving, but that's just the way I interpreted it. I'm more of a logical thinker than an emotional one too though, so I do get your point.
