Bach is a genius of the highest order. He lived with barely any recognition because his music was well beyond his time. It is truly eternal.

The man close to the artist appears to be very emotionally moved by hearing and watching this BACH work come to life.

I must have heard about 50 Chaconnes on youtube, anywhere from underground tunnels to concert halls. All of them fantastic. The new generation leaves behind all the old past generation of Heifetz Milstein, Francescatti, Elman, Zimbalist, Kogan and many others.

I feel like a musician, to play Bach, must strip themselves of all ego or notions of pretense. especially with the Chaconne, no matter who plays it or their personal sensibilities, something very immutable shines through when it is approached properly and with respect

Don't know how I missed this performance until today (26 March 2022). But, after a month of watching the horrific invasion of the Ukraine on nightly TV news programs this piece captures all of my emotions. Not sure about the purpose of the "theatre in the round" but does it really matter? Not to the man, eyes closed, with the dark glasses swaying his head to the music, the beautiful blushing woman smiling with pure joy or to me at home tears streaming down my face. I firmly believe that the standard for the Bach Chaconne is one by Szeryng. A very close second is a version by Vengerov (after his accident). But this performance by Liza Ferschtman is outstanding. Anyone who criticizes her performance, or that of any other virtuoso of this caliber, should remember the old axiom "Those who criticze can't". My apologies for the length of this diatribe.

My guitar teacher showed me this video when we were discussing whether this masterpiece is more beautiful on guitar or violin as I am studying the piece. He told me she plays it for Ramsy Nasr's (i.e. man in the middle) birthday as a gift and that the people making the circle are friends of him. I'm not sure whether this is true but it seems a good reason :-) Indeed an amazing performance of an amazing piece.

@@maartencontant5669 If you are comparing whether the Chaconne sounds better on the violin or the guitar, you should use a more historically informed performance of it (on both instruments, but here is a historically accurate rendition of it on the violin): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pnK6R5ej6Hg.html

It should be a kinda duel… or an audition 😅, but she should never need to do an audition, she’s just out of the world on playing music.
