And the fact that the protagonists are mostly civilian making this kinda unrealistic. Example, l4d2 protagonists still rechambers the gun because they don't know how to use it. L4d1 is a different story. You got Bill, he might teach the others how to reload. In l4d2, you have multiple pistol reloads, because they might own an Sig Sauer P220, Glock 26, or IMI Desert Eagle.
one of my first thoughts while playing the beta was that.. these are way too rigid and i don't think they were meant to be that sped up. but, it's an arcade shooter, not like, a super accurate representation so maybe i'm just complaining too much
Being an arcade shooter game is not a good enough excuse for a game released in 2021. Killing floor 2 is an arcade shooter too and released in 2016 yet it has vastly superior weapons animation compared to b4b. And pls don't give me "looks like l4d2", l4d2 is 10y+ old already, for something released in 2021 b4b should has been an improvement. L4d2 atleast have two different reload for their pistols
Payday 2, a game from 2013, is also an arcade shooter (not really zombies but cops are close enough), yet it has infinitely better and more pleasant reload animations than a good chunk of shooters released in the past few years, B4B included.
Damn, every animation except for the M249 looks awful, you'd think they'd try to do better animations than L4D since it's supposed to be an "Spiritual Successor" of L4D, but nope, it also has shit weapon animations.
I'm okay with the robotic nature since they were going for a more aggressive style, but that barrett reload just looks awkward to me. It needs to move around more lol
That animation makes it feel like the rifle has zero weight and it’s really off setting to know that’s the supposed to be a heavy rifle yet the PC handles it as if it is a SMG
Man I didn't realized how yucky b4b animations were until now... it's like really stiff but also trying really hard to be like 2019 Modern Warfare with the shacking, it's even more noticeable with the awful +reload speed buffs that they give you. It just all around looks so uninteresting, bland and just boring. L4D2 animations have more personality and uniqueness to them than this, that's all I'm gonna say.
Agreed, the animations are pretty rough for 2021, the camera movement on console is really stiff & unresponsive imo, melee has basically no hit detection & the enemy count just feels off
To be honest, the graphics and reloads doesn't seem like a 2021 game, but hey, the sort of fast shakiness make it a bit good. Except those shotgun reloads...
@@Oyebadumn are you saying this seriously or not ? If not, there has to be a minimum of developpement in terms of graphics, B4B just kinda looks like a 2017 game..
@Jojo Betzler Regardless, it still looks like crap. Human motions are naturally fluid, moving around robotically doesn't look natural, and the animations still aren't as good, regardless of style.
I would say its more like Cold War's style, the more arcady feel, but even Cold War has some better reloads than these, to be honest i think they tried to make their own style, which it looks weird... But still okay
@@user-lr9hu7pd7o it's an arcade shooter!🤓🤓🤓 That's not the style they were going for!🤓🤓🤓 Have you ever heard of animation style?🤓🤓🤓 Not excuses at all
@@blackswan8219 the perk system the stamina system the weapon attachments the story the characters the voicelines it just seems like the only people at the studio that worked on l4d was the janitor at the studio
If there’s 1 thing I hated MW for is that they now set a trend where every game now has to have taticool animations, even in games that would benefit from not having that. Like I’m sorry but it’s getting old seeing every game not having its own style, now we gotta copy COD because that’ll get people to notice our game! This game did not need tacticool animations, they feel nothing like the original L4D’s.
Found an epic Super 90 that had a 9 round magazine, but it reloaded so fast the shell counter was buggy unless you let it finish reloading all the shells.
I found some animations that I find similar to 2 COD games 0:39 Modern Warfare 0:46 Modern Warfare 0:52 Cold War 0:59 Modern Warfare 1:02 Cold War 1:06 Cold War 1:18 Cold War 1:23 Modern Warfare
I like the cartoony aesthetic that comes with how the animations are paced, but that AK mag removal will forever grind my gears, no matter what. They're pressing the release paddle *but* they're pulling the magazine out in a way that would only push it further into its locked position.
Nah there's definitely worse games. This is more in the mediocre, and is probably going to be abandoned and forgotten within a year or two category. But it isn't bad, it's just not exactly new or different or innovative in any way.
The pistol slides always locking is pretty annoying, you may get away with the bigger weapons like the shotguns and assault rifles, but it looks really unnatural when pistols do it because practically half the entire thing just locks like it fired the final round when it didn't. I hope they give the pistols an extra animation slot to fix that annoying desighn choice.
0:21 XD I’m laughing so hard. I love how they try to make it look like modern shooters where after they reloading they sway their gun really fast like they think it’s gonna give it some cool effect.
@Jojo Betzler well, when you watch someone daily that posts reloads (Schrodinger or Aleksworkshop) it become a big thing in your life. Besides when you are gonna be playing a game for a while you are going to notice such shitty qualities like I listed above.
@Jojo Betzler one of the most important things in game development in terms of UX: You DON'T sag something the players see all the time. If you give a game crappy animations that look like a 3D Animation student's first few projects, people are bound to complain.
These animations are just so ugly. So devoid of artistic merit. Like, they're trying to add the energy of the MW reloads, without having a clue on how Infinity Ward pulled it off. And it's also playing it safe by keeping it arcade-like. They tried to have their cake and eat it too. Horrendous.
I'm pretty sure that you do the empty reload no matter how many bullets are left in your magazine, same with a lot of Valve games. They did the same thing in L4D and L4D2.
Just speculation but it looks like someone who hasn’t animated viewmodels before animated these, maybe the character animators doubled up as VM animators
I don't like these at all. They're too rigid, there's barely any natural movement between the keyframes. I get what they're trying to do but it just doesn't work the way they want. I'm not saying they should sway all over the place. But they look so static in some aspects, it becomes horribly unnatural
I don't have an issue with B4B's reloads, except for the Vector and the UMP-45. The UMP's bolt coming back with no input from the character aside from taking out the mag is just absurd. As for the Vector, I understand that the game was meant to be rigid, but it's way too robotic and inhuman feeling.
The shotgun animations are the only ones that I really have a problem with. They’re just really goofy and uncanny. Everything else is really satisfying to me.
Their new engine is an improvement over every other CoD game but it isn't ground breaking (look at the frostbite engine for example). I'm not saying it's bad, just not ground breaking
