My, my, my! This was so refreshing. I felt like I was with young people, having fun. I'm 65 and miss snow skiing so much. I was all smiles watching you!

Emily, With small spaces it's a good idea to use cardboard or foamboard and blue painters' tape (to outline on the floor and tape cardboard together) to layout cabinets, furniture, etc., placement which gives you a real perspective of what will fit and where, and it's lightweight enough to move around if you need to re-configure. Good job on the skiing. 👍🏼👍🏼

These are the kind of young people that you get when you have solid, stabil parents with values, ethic and morals, that are hard working and provide a good home environment…. It is obvious that shawn and his wife are these kinds of people. Iam extremely impressed.

Its good to see you back Emily, college/university can be intense especially when you have homework in the holidays too. Good Luck with your degree. Thanks for taking us skiing and skating with your friend. It as fun and I got a sense of what it is like to ski downhill (I am so bad at skiing, I got kicked off my beginners' course in France lol). Glad you are back. I was having withdrawals with your dad taking time off. I know how it is to think you have more space until you realize you don't. I went from a large 5 bdrm home in Las Vegas to a 2 bdrm 1 bath home in my home state of Oregon after retirement. I've had to learn to organize and use storage wisely. I love my sofa with the under drawer and my bed frame with drawers also. Ikea was my saving grace. Also happy you are being wise about friendships and quality people in your life. Your advantage is having a good family with good family ethics. That stays with you for a lifetime. Good luck Emily.

I'm 60, it's been about 7 years since I last went, but its like riding a bike, once you learn - you simply never forget how! Glad you had a nice day in the snow! I'm in SC and we got around 8" so we've been pretty much locked down. But it doesn't happen often so it's still fun for us. The layout looks good. It's nice to do so much of the planning on the computer so don't have to buy and try then return. Stay with the off whites with a hint of blue for the major items and then throw a darker item in, couch?, for an stand out accent.

I started crosscountry skiing in my late 40's - one of the first lessons I learned for going down hills, was to not stand up straight, but crouch slightly. Better balance and not as far to the ground when I fell (not if I fell)! Wish I was still doing it, but at 78 my balance and bones are not what they were 30 years ago! Enjoyed the slopes vicariously through you and your friend. Stay safe!

your cabin in Alaska IMO should be something like this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9acohtrYDyc.html at least 17~27cm of full insulation with no thermal bridges on top on a blocks basement useful as a garage with a big opening in the rear, as tools/equipments recovery, technical room for plants e.g. well pumps and to store firewood covered under the house so you don't have to go outside every time to feed the stove. In the entrance you can add a corridor and Dressing room such as Shelter 2.0 well insulated to store boots and jackets. And no stairs, only ramps to access everything so you can move on wheels whatever you need to move inside outside and viceversa for whatever reason. Thermal efficiency IMO is the key feature of this kind of cabin because making firewood is the most energy/time consuming activity, it is vital, so the less wood to burn the house require to give you comfort, the less effort to provide it every year, every time loading woods and downloading ashes, the more time and energy to invest and spend in something else increasing relax and productivity.

I would be completely wiped out with sore muscles the next day after not skiing for years! Guess that's the benefit of being young and healthy. Looking forward to seeing if your design for the cabin matches your plans (I'd put the door to the bathroom facing the lounge not the kitchen).

Never been snow skiing but if I ever did I would be in the kids section lol, and there's a ski resort like 30 min. drive from my house called Mission Ridge In Washington state. Ice skating never done either but I can roller skate don't if it's the same lol.

I could make a hour long comedy video of me doing winter sports.. I’ve been skiing once where I spent the biggest part of the time on my backside I was kind of getting use to the bunny slope when my son thought it would be a good idea to have me go down the big hill “WRONG “ I had no idea how to turn on skis and all I saw was a line of trees at the bottom long story short I left butt trail all the way down that hill.
