Glad to see you're feeling better. For that coin with all the holes, I'm thinking that the coin was at the center of a target and it was pierced several times by weapons being used at the particular target. Perhaps arrows? I'm thinking that some arrows had bodkin tips that might leave a triangular hole, or perhaps throwing spikes sometimes called torpedoes? For me, anyways this seems to be the most logical reason for all the holes in that coin. Someone might have been practicing his thrown weapons skills. the Round hole in the center might be from a nail used to hold it to the target wood like a log slice or similar. if Anyone has a better idea, I'm all ears.

Good to see you back again. The livery button with the bent arm (it's called embowed) may well be of the Jamieson family. There are several similar ones, but only a couple holding an axe.

Great video again John. Glad u made it through the virus. Coin with all the holes is probably what they alled a whizzer. Colonial age over here across the pond. I've found 3 and they all were different. Kids made them. Spun them around and they made different noises. Wind whistled throug the holes. Anyhow. Always enjoy your videos. I Googled the heck out of the spoon you found and it appears it was one of a set of six that were all the same. Doesn’t specify which apostle it is but he is holding a book and it has EPNS on back. Possibly from 1960’s. 🤷🏻‍♀️

in the 1970s when I was a teen my parents and grandparents camped both summers along the side of one of our trout streams. I couldn't figure out why they set the campers so close to the bank but finally realized they'd been digging up an old blacksmith's shop and didn't want anyone else to know. Lots and lots of horseshoes and farm tools. That old detector still works, too.

In my opinion, the soft brush used carefully is 1000x better than the bendy thumb. Especially with coins. I'm a relatively new follower and thoroughly enjoy your videos. Keep up the great work.

Detectival was certainly fun. Got stuck in the mud for the first hour in the rain and was towed out to camp site. And towed out again on Monday. The Detectival organisers were on the ball. 👍🏻 Great venue! And dry detecting days thank goodness! The spoon is Nickel Silver(Cupro-Nickel I think) Electro Plated Nickel Silver. 👍🏻

I slept in a tent in sub freezing temps in October. Never again. I got that merit badge 47 years ago and I'm done renewing it every year. LOL. About that little toothed fragment---Search, "Rack and key downspout hangers." I'm not sure if that's what it is, but it resembles the rack. Thanks.

Congratulations on the 24k subscribers. Hoping you get back to feeling 100% soon. Suggestion: have you tried coating your great shovel with a spray of cooking oil, silicone, or WD40? A quick wipe-down helps the soil (or snow as here in Minnesota USA) slide off easily. Wishing you the greatest of luck detecting.

Nice finds there John. You were correct in saying that Elizabeth II was on her honeymoon when she got the news that her father had died, and she was honeymooning in Kenya at 'Tree Tops' a famous tree house wildlife viewing platform. Jim Corbett of India fame and his sister Maggie were caretakers and guides there at the time. Jim Corbett gives a first hans account of the incident in one of his books.

Elizabeth wasn't on her honeymoon she got married 5 years before then. They were on a royal tour. She went instead of her father as he was ill at the time.

Glad to see you up and about. Re cold, wet camping …. Getting wet is always just a matter of time. So the game is how to keep warm wet. Wear as much 100% wool as you can. Wool is warm and can insulate and keep skin dry when the wool is as much as 30% soaked. So this is socks, hats, gloves, undergarments, over garments like sweaters and vests. Wrap yourself up in Scottish wool! 😁😁😁 … if you want to level up, get a skjoldenhamn hood of wool - make it reversible (two layers). 💕🇨🇦😁👍😎

My Mother was a virologist for many many years. Basically she studied and worked with viruses. Apparently getting cold and wet is in no way the reason why we get cold and flus. Unless your immune system is compromised, which being cold/wet doesn't compromise that system, the only way to get a virus such as a cold or flu is to come in contact with it and then touch a mucus membrane like your nose or eyes or if it is airborne you come into contact from being around the person expelling the virus. Getting colds or flus from the cold/wet is an old wives tale back from when they didn't understand what viruses were or how we caught them. Because they are normally associated with colder weather that is why it was thought to be from getting cold and/or wet. Just a bit of info from someone in the know.

My maternal grandmother grew up in London. I remember her having a set of Apostle spoons . There were 12 in all and she was brought up Anglican. When our grand mother passed my oldest sister and I were given 6 spoons each. I didn’t want to see the set broken up and gave my six to my sister. Thanks for your videos! 🇨🇦

Re. the Apostle spoon. I think EPNS would only have been marked as such from about the mid 19th century. The electroplating process was patented in 1840. I can't find any images of an apostle with a book, so I wonder if it is a bag of money, which would make it Judas Iscariot.

The Americans joined the second World War in 1941 I think after pearl harbour. The Queen was married in 1947, I know that because it was the same year as my mum and dad, I think they must have been on holiday when the found out about the Kings death in 1952. You are correct on the 1941...12/7/41 after we were attacked by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor. My understanding was that Elizabeth was on a royal tour that her father was supposed to go on but couldn't because he was ill. But I am not as versed in British history as I am in US history since I am an American. But I do find the British history fascinating mostly due to how long it has been a country. History here doesn't go back far enough to have the really interesting events!

The circles of leather with the brass/copper stud/rivet are sections/links of leather drive belts off agricultural machinery ie. threshing mill or similar. The spoon; I remember eating my boiled egg with an identical one as a bairn.

Your Apostle Spoon is St Paul - carrying a book in one hand, and a sword in the other. The sword is quite faint, but you can see it.

My parents were given a set of Apostle spoons for their wedding in 1946. They were married in the Church of Scotland at St. Bride's Church, Bothwell.

I believe holes were punched into coins, when the value of the coin was higher, than something that was being purchased with said coin. I asked the same question when I received, many very old coins after my grandmother passed.

Glad you’re feeling better, my Mum got a set of apostle spoons as a wedding gift in 1946.. they were C of E so I think they must have been multi denomination.. the pierced coin is a fabulous mystery with the different shaped and placed holes.

I don't mind digging copper or bronze scrap because it all adds up to money when turned in, but like you I don't like finding parts of cans or pull tabs.
