Once you start fabricating it just opens up a whole new world of ways to improve your projects. Looks good! Excited to see you racing some no prep!

Thanks! You're definitely right on that. Been meaning to learn for years. Finally jumped into it.

Cool to see you diving into the fabrication stuff. Aluminum can be a bear. Your comment about welds on the internet was perfect, lol.

It's fun stuff for sure. I need to try out some steel welding. I've only done aluminum so far lol.

@@SquirrelTuned steel is a little more soothing because you don't have the buzzing of the Welder. Nice crisp pop and some melty melt...

Have you ever tried moving your ballast around in your car to find it's best position . in my no prep s10 i moved my ballast around and I noticed the significant improvement placing the weight ahead of the rear axle center line compared to behind it.
@SquirrelTuned
@SquirrelTuned 10 месяцев назад
I have not yet. Just have one place really to add weight at the moment. What improvement did you see from having the weight in front of the axle? Or what issue did you have with it behind it? On another car we did add some weight to the rear housing itself. But I wasn't a big fan of that.

@@SquirrelTuned without a burnout and with 240lb against the tail gate I spun for 100 feet. I moved the weight all the way up against the cab and only spun for 20 feet. Without a burn out.

I got the idea from my stock car buddy he told me as a general rule of thumb. They never move any ballast outside of the wheel base.
@SquirrelTuned

@@billbraski2175 that's interesting. Was the weight the same height in both places?
@billbraski2175
@billbraski2175 10 месяцев назад
@@SquirrelTuned I actually made a rack in the back of my truck and put the weight in probably about 10 different positions. The height of the weight didn't seem to make a difference. And if the weight was butted up against the cab or directly over the axle, that didn't seem to make a difference either. My truck just really suffered when the weight was up against the tailgate.

So whats up with the notch in the frame? Im building a new edge as well and have been curious about clearances for the rear end. Are the tubs tall enough in them to allow you to set the body that low or what? I dont think ive ever seen this done.
@SquirrelTuned
@SquirrelTuned 10 месяцев назад
Mine has mini tubs. I believe the axle would make contact if the notches were not there when it's as low as possible. I also am sure the axle tubes are larger on my Merillat 9in than a typical 8.8 or something though. The notches were there when I got the car as a roller. I haven't looked closely to see how much they are needed honestly. The raised piece above the rear end was also installed to allow more clearance. Before that, the housing would hit.

@SquirrelTuned thanks for the reply! I'll definitely be taking a look at a lot of your past videos. You've done some pretty impressive stuff with it. Goodluck with the car and content!
