A true Irish hero, Nothing more noble than to give your life for your beliefs. Not many have ever been so brave .putting country and other's before your own existence. God bless you Bobby. And damn the cowards who didn't see you as an Irish soldier with rights. May they be feeling the heat of Hell. Erin Go Bragh👍☘️🇮🇪🇺🇸🙏❤️
The melody is from "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" -- songwriter Gordon Lightfoot said he always thought his song was an Irish ballad -- Bobby Sands was able to write poignant, brilliant songs and poetry, in spite of the hell of the H-Blocks -- incredible hero who sacrificed his life for Ireland
No; nay , no more my granny would have said were she not dead many, many years ago. Botany Bay, the preferred destination of the prison ships. Derry, the only word in English that has 6 silent letters at its beginning. One Ireland united pracefully is still possible. God bless IRELAND.
In 2013 I spent 2 months in Derry visiting with my friend John (Sonny) Coyle I was looking for castles and rainbows and got a history lesson I will carry in my heart forever and now that my friend John is not around any more I'll for ever remember the lessons I learned about Derry
Bobby Sands was a true humanitarian. Cared only for his people. A true hero. And so were his comrades of course. All fought and died for the same cause. Irish liberty.🇦🇺♥️🇮🇪
I’m English, with Irish heritage on mams side. I grew up a catholic in the west end of Newcastle upon Tyne. My mam wanted to protect us from the Irish troubles. My infant school headteacher was a wee Belfast woman. In the 60s she educated me. As I grew up, I travelled to the North. Now I’m very clear where I stand. First time I went to Belfast , I was so much more comfortable where there wasn’t a union flag flying. Strangely , my husband , not a Catholic, felt the same. We went many years and always felt safe in the falls road area.
Today I listen to the radio Thailand broadcast played Only our river run free ,that I never knew before but very love it. Then I go to you tube and found lots of beautiful Irish songs . LOVE SO MUCH.
many years ago i worked in the benefits office in Belfast ,he had just come out of the Kesh .Little did I know he would become an MP ,Have a street named after him in Iran ,and a lovely song about him
Twenty years have gone by and I’ve ended my bond, My comrades’ ghosts walk beside me. Well a rebel I came and sure I’ll die the same, On a cold winter’s night you will find me.
i remember this time. poor Irlandthrough centuries to have a neighbour like England who putted in chains the all othersCelts to keep thepower forherself alone,
I sometimes wonder what if someone somehow went back in time with a mobile phone to these lads just to connect with their families back home again.....
Don't forget that the original tune to this sone is actually done in the 70's by Gordon Lightfoot in a song called "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" And nope it is not the other way arround. ;) Still I prefer "Back home in Derry" though hehe.
1:09 Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings; From the rooms of her ice-water mansion. Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams, Its islands and bays are for sportsmen; And farther below Lake Ontario, Takes in what Lake Erie can send her; The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay If they'd put 15 more miles behind her.
he also wasn't alive in 1803 lol it's a story he wrote of his people's persecution, doesn't need to be in the first person to tell it. he wrote many a poem while in prison, you might enjoy them.
