Such a relatable video for my entire life 😅 I’d take it as a learning situation. All that happened was you caught your footing, and then discovered your foundation isn’t quite as strong as you thought. You have a real passion for meat rabbits and have helped me SO much along my own journey with them. I won’t say you *have* to continue with them, obviously you don’t, but I don’t personally see you walking away for long. IMO. I would get a new buck and keep an eye on the REW doe. She may recover and that’ll bode well for her. I had a doe and a buck that both suddenly got very skinny in last years rainy season, I almost lost them but found them just as they were starting to fade out. I brought them in and gave them a critical care mix, tons of hay, did a bit of force feeding, etc, and they recovered. Both have had litters since. I will also say - my mutts seem much more durable than my purebreds. I have Rex, they seem to suddenly get sick while my mutts (half Rex and the rest Heinz 57) never have issues at all. It’s a bit of a problem as I’d really like to focus on Rex, but I’m always eyeing them while my mutts require very little attention.

if you are anywhere near central indiana, we have a wonderful buck named Pepper we could give you. Hes a mix but hes fathered kits before and is pretty tame.

I have been a breeder my whole life. I think maybe your hardy smaller rabbits are the best for you if you are ok with me giving some advice. I am most knowledgeable of cattle and if you want grass fed that look good and keep well on only pasture then the breeds that are bred and raised like that is what you will be successful with. Getting heavy, fast growing breeds will maybe not give you the best outcome. New Zealand White are bred for fast growth WITH grain feeding. Edelweiss looks like the Holstein cows that they have stopped feeding grains and still expect to milk full on. It just does not fly. If you accept smaller carcasses from your does that do thrive on your system maybe you will feel better? I wish you the best❤️
